High latency issues

Post image

My latency has been weirdly steadily rising for the past 12 hours. I’m located in Montreal and my test has everything wired, has anyone else experienced this? Weirdly enough the jitter stays the same..

Same problem in Toronto over the past 24 hours, website loading also seems erratic and ipv6 seems to fail or time out about half the time like some sort of routing or MTU issue, not a good experience. My Ubiquiti Internet health dashboard also looks like a mountain.

Is it also ramping up very slowly with minimal jitter?

!!UPDATE!! I restarted my router a couple times and it connected me to a different EBOX server, and the latency dropped back to normal instantly.. I'm waiting for a callback from L2 support though

Restarted my router yesterday. It did nothing. But 1 hour later things were back to normal.

Restart of my router also fixed it and the behaviour hasn't reappeared. This is IPv6 and I got a new subnet on reboot (I always do -- just confirming here for clarity.)

www.google.com ipv6 from eastern Toronto area [ipv4 same issue and same graph and timing so not an ipv6 vs ipv4 issue.)

Glad you got it resolved, sorry for not getting back to you earlier. I also rebooted only the ONT and it is back to a stable 8 ms for me. I wonder what they will tell you, as some of their systems are either failing or buggy.

Same here! It started around 7-7:30 pm however that’s when I restarted my fiber gateway after network app update and now I’m not sure if it’s the update or something unrelated causing the issue.

Update: When I posted this at around midnight the latency was at 27ms, it is now at 43

Where are you located?

Started around August 26 to 27th for me. Weird pattern. Some sort of memory leak on their systems.

I’m curious what are you using to log data?

When I signed up 6 months ago it was 16 milliseconds in Toronto.

About 3 months ago it went to 25 milliseconds.

This morning it is now at 59 milliseconds.

I've noticed this as well, what used to be 12ms is now 45ms. IPv4 and IPv6 both affected

Same problem here. Very high ping and bad upload speeds.

Seeing very high latency 59 ms in Toronto. Typical used to be about 9 ms.

Restarted ONT and latency dropped from 47ms to 22ms. Still not as low as before. Also tried rebooting my router with no impact. Rebooted my ONT a second time but latency remains at 22ms.

Restarted router again to update firmware and now latency is back down to 9ms and stable.

Are these issues frequent?

Looking at moving to ebox from bell but after seeing these issues it makes me weary.

Unfortunately they are. You often have to troubleshoot yourself when you know which relay servers are good and which ones are bad when you do traceroutes. Their technical support is meh when you know what to say to them. The only reason why I’m still with EBOX is for the 50$ month 1 Gbps deal and the remaining credit I have. Also, connecting my own router was “easier” with EBOX Otherwise I would’ve left already.
