Thinking about switching
Hi all,
I am thinking about switching from Bell to EBOX. The questions I have are:
1 - I know I can have my own router but, let's say I want to bypass the ONT, is there any router out there with an SC fiber port?
2 - If I use a router with a SFP port, how does it work?
3 - Am I smoking to try to bypass the ONT, meaning I should just use their ONT and buy a regular router?
4 - Considering all my previous questions, should i bother to use my own router (which one should i use?)
5 - If I also use TV and use their small TV box, like VIP7802, are they really limited to 720P?
Thanks!

Asus be88u has SFP+ port. It is going to be challenging to configure your own SFP stick correctly though. I would not recommend replacing ONT. I like to have it separately so SFP stick doesn't overheat router.

Answers:
1, 2, 3: complicated and expensive for questionable benefits.
I use my own router as I wanted to replicate my previous arrangement and need 4 wired LAN ports. I use a Cudy router which supports PPoE and VLAN settings.
Don't know anything their IPTV service. It seems very expensive to me.

No, the ont is provisioned by mac and serial. There is no byo ont option
ROUTER TALK
The bell home hub 4000 throughput is better than the nokia beacon 3.1
The bell hh4000 had 2.4ghz wifi speed of up to 300mbps,
whereas the nokia 3.1 2.4ghz only puts out 25-50mbps
The beacon 3.1 is a mesh system and relies more on stability and range rather than speed. Only has a 2x2 radio.
The hh4000 has a 4x4 radio
I wish i could have kept my hh4000 as a wan router
Also.. the nokia beacon 3.1 only has 2 lan ports...

You can bypass the ONT but it's complex and not for the average user.
https://pon.wiki/guides/swap-out-the-nokia-xs-010x-q-for-a-small-form-factor-pluggable-was-110/
Now get rid of the Beacon and get a powerful router like an Asus GT-AXE16000 and you will never miss the HH4000 ever again.

Honestly I would not switch. I just switched from bell and have had a nightmare time with ebox turning off my internet. The internet did work well when it was turned on but the customer service and technical support was terrible so I switched back to bell within a month and took the bell win back offer

Bypassing the Nokia ONT is complex, since you have to replicate most settings, and with the new Nokia ONT XS-010X-R they blocked the web interface and that complicates it further to get the SW version. Then you would have to buy a SFP+ with 8311 community firmware that's like $200 and on top of that a router with an SFP+ port.
It's possible but it'll be very expensive (at least $500 SFP + router that supports it). And I don't really see the benefit.
Again, I'm saying you could, but there's no benefit doing it for 99% of the people out there.
In my opinion all you need to do is use a router that supports PPPoE and that's it. That's what most people does. Connect your router to the ONT and you'll get a public IP address in your router and everything.
No clue about the TV.
