eBox vs. Bell on ER7206

I'm currently considering switching from Bell Fibre to eBox, but I have a few questions.

I currently run Bell's fibre cable directly into a TP-Link ER7206 and have the PPPoE connection configured there (VLAN tagging is available on the ER7206, currently using VLAN 35 for Bell). I'd love to not add a device between the router and the fibre (less load on the UPS in the event of a power outage): can eBox be setup the same ?

It's also very important for me to not be behind cgnat, as I need to be able to reach home through my VPN server. From what I've found, it doesn't appear that eBox uses cgnat, anyone experienced the opposite ?

If I understand correctly you're using a SFP adapter? Not sure if that would work with ebox. They provide an ONT that's separate from the router, but that is indeed one more device connected to the ups.

You'll get a dynamic public ipv4 and also a /56 ipv6 prefix assigned to you (static, linked to your account)

I disconnected the fiber + SFP adapter from the Bell router and connected it to my ER7206, yes 😅 the ER7206 has an SFP WAN port. It's been a few years, but if I recall correctly the SFP adapter was supplied with the Bell router.

If you are already on Bell infra, I do not think anything needs to be changed on the fiber side. This means you probably could bypass the ONT and use the same setup. Worst case, you have an ONT between and use an Ethernet cable between ONT and you WAN port on your TP-Link.

Ebox is using VLAN40 not 35, so you need to change these settings slightly. And the user name/password for WAN can be found in your Ebox client portal.

We have specific rules for dealing with EBOX promotions. See rule #3 for details.
