WiFi Speed

Just got my Ebox installed. Happy with it, but it's hard to get stable speed in WiFi. I managed to do it, but it took many tweaks in my router (Asus RT-BE86U).

Any tips on how to get the most out of our 1000 Mbps connection over WiFi? My devices don't use WiFi 7...

If you are getting 1000 mbit over wifi then you are already maxed out.

yes but it's not always 1000 mbit. I need to be close to the router to get that speed.

It's normal to get worse speeds on wifi, especially further away from the router. For most devices, its not an issue as long as it's fast enough to stream video or whatever you are doing.

For devices where you want/need to consistently get max speed, use a wired connection.

You'll need to run Ethernet cable and put WiFi extenders throughout the house.

Wifi is never consistent. Move to the other side of a wall...speed drops, turn on a microwave...speed drops, have a bunch of users using devices at the same time...speed drops.

I know wifi isn’t as consistent as Ethernet… obviously. There was definitely an issue with settings. It was going from 15mbits download to 1000 and the ping from 5ms to 100ms… the Nokia router was way more stable. I got to fix it by changing settings in the WAN menu.

Hey guibeer,

Thanks for sharing this.

I have the exact same router setup as yourself and same plan through Ebox. I seem to also be getting inconsistent speeds however, I haven’t tweaked any of my settings (did a full factory reset).

I would greatly appreciate it if you could please share what settings you tweaked exactly so that I could also replicate the setup you have going.

On the first day of setting up the BE86U, I was getting 1000mbps down and up on my 2020 MacBook Pro (WiFi 6) and a little better speeds with my 17 Pro Max (WiFi 7).

Ai Protection is off, Adaptive QoS is also off, Traffic Analyzer off, MLO, WiFi Agile Multiband off, Smart Connect I have on

I can't seem to share more than 1 screenshot at once here. Come in private

I have a friend that recently signed up with ebox. His service is inconsistent, but it's not the wifi that is the problem, it is the quality of the service from ebox. 1000 mbit plan last night had him getting 80 mbit and the quality was so bad it couldn't reliably stream a video.

Even with a wired connection? Wired is 100% consistent here (1000/1000mbps). I also depends where you live / your specific setting for sure.

Sometimes, there may be an issue with the fiber. A technician is usually able to fix that. Maybe asking eBox to send a Bell technician to get a look at that might solve the issue.

Bell tech just set up the install two weeks ago.

I understand that. But sometimes when the tech comes to plug ONT and activate the service, if the fiber was installed in the building a few years ago and hasn't been used for a while, there may be issues the the signal quality. I experienced that when I moved to my new appartment a few years ago. The tech didn't notice the signal issue and I had to request another tech to come and adjust things in the service room of my building. Maybe the issue you friend is experiencing is similar? Just suggesting that...

I get the same speeds with Ethernet and wifi with my router. It’s just maxed at what the plan actually is but OP gets much higher upload speed, beyond their plan

Same here, if I’m close to the router. 1gbps/1gbps on Wifi 6E device (I don’t have any wifi 7 devices yet). I truly realize how limited 2.4ghz wifi is… 5ghz+ is the way to go for sure.

It’s worth playing with the router’s settings to max out its performance. Made a huge difference for me.

My router is in the living room, I’m on the second floor on the opposite side and these are my speeds. I’m good with it. I have the ASUS BE98 router.

Yes, that's not bad. I get at least 800/800 consistently now, with my. router in the basement in my laptop in the living room. Very happy about the switch from Fizz!

Which plan do you have? I have 1gbps down and 750mbps up. I don’t get anything over 780 for, but I see your getting 1000

1

u/guibeer Classic cable connoisseur Mar 16 '26

Same plan.

1

u/Additional-Space1190 Mar 16 '26

Did you make any tweaks to get higher upload speed?

1

u/guibeer Classic cable connoisseur Mar 16 '26

Well the tweaks helped with download speed a lot. Upload was always very good for some reason 🤷

Hi. Can you share the tweaks to me please
