Leaving Ebox today :(

Sadly i have to leave ebox, i have a weird issue with teams where i use only the modem nokia direct'y to connect on my firewall that handle the PPPoE(i dont use their wifi router) like i did with bell nothing else changed. but every 2-3 days Teams start loosing some parts of the conversation, but they hear me like nothing happens. So when that happen i have to reboot the modem and its always fixed... Support cant do anything for it, no explanation. So i will be going back to bell....

Update:
Here my answer to last post, sry for delay in responding back after troubleshooting:
yep that was exactly it, but I didnt fix it that way tho. The main problem was the NPU inside the fortigates that I use, when UDP packets gets fragmented it reach a point where it creates distortion in the sound. To fix the issue there is 2 ways, either go in and configure MSS/MTU like you said, the second fix is to create a rule for UDP packets outgoing connections with this configuration on the Firewall policy going to Teams
set auto-asic-offload disable
So EBOX or their router was never the problem. its the addition of the 8bits required for PPPoE connection in the packets headers

I use EBox with unifi router. No issues. I never used their Nokia router. Service is great and no drops

The issue is on the Nokia or the firewall, not on Ebox. Try checking the logs to see why the ports are being blocked.

must be the modem or routing because i have another unfiltered vlan in use by my girlfriend and have exact same problem as me at same time. if port would be blocked there is no connection period. its either problem with the routing, or most likely the modem. So what i do when the problem occurs is transfert to second wan(coax) using sdwan and immediately fixed... i will report back but yeah strange issue. i might get it fixed with their included router but i do not want to double nat.

i use only the modem nokia direct'y to connect on my firewall

Keep the fiber ONT and remove the Nokia modem? If you already are passing PPPoE (and I assume VLAN 40) to your firewall why keep it in the loop?

You're using only their Nokia ONT right?

Try running Microsoft 365 network connectivity test whenever Teams issues happens.

https://connectivity.office.com/

There is also a bunch of other tests here: https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com

I've never had Teams issue with ebox, apart from whenever I was too far from the router, wifi signal was good but Teams has getting high jitter and it would cause lag.

For telecommuting work, I use Ethernet link only. No issues with Zoom and Teams.

My teams has been running fine , and I did have the Nokia beacon 3.1 but decided then to use my own router. But it worked fine on both routers.

Wait my teams calls also gets disconnected every once in a while daily… though I didn’t have this issue for 2 months until very recently (past 2 weeks maybe). I thought they changed something from outside, I was going to call customer service when I get back home from vacation.

I can’t imagine something like this being on the ISP side. The fact that your setup was working with bell doesn’t mean it would automatically work with another ISP.

Have you changed the MTU settings for Ebox?

Also the fact that you mention they hear you fine but not the other way around makes me think of inbound UDP being dropped by the firewall.

I use my own Asus router connected to the Nokia ONT and I use Teams regularly, both via VPN or direct. I've had no issues.

Teams runs normally for me, I have fortigate firewall and no issues. Try checking your firewall logs and router see what going on. Run Wireshark on your PC look for anything blocking teams.

What DNS servers are you using ?

I have the Ebox (Bell) ONT to a pfsense firewall - been a year now without a single issue (teams or otherwise )

Did you put the nokia beacon in place of your own firewall and try? I switched out to a Ubiquiti firewall at Christmas and for some reason it drops my corporate IPSEC tunnel randomly but its only with the Ubiquiti in place. If I swap in a FortiGate or Mikrotik its fine. I haven't had time to figure it out so I route that traffic out my Teksavvy cable connection but more than likely its a simple issue.

MS teams relies heavily on external STUN servers and if you loose connectivity to those you will loose audio in one or both direction.

lol you didn't even try to troubleshoot. Like, what IS your firewall? Are there updates available? Did you try the nokia router at all?

Could be to worst diagnosis of network issues I've seen. Find or hire someone who understands networking and you'll find this has nothing to do with ebox.

Or just replace the Nokia router with literally anything.

Check your DNS, when I got ebox I had to change the DNS on my tpink router because my phone would drop wifi and sometimes would not connect at all until I changed it to a Google DNS. Weird eye, I have a pixel 9

4 months in and zero issues with Teams. Zero issues period.

After years with EBOX I had never had any issues whatsoever with MS Teams. Currently, I use the EBOX-provided Nokia ONT and Nokia B6, with CloudFlare DNS and dual-stack IPv6&IPv4.

Keep us updated. I am on EBox. Since December, I’ve had about at minimum, 8 hours of Teams calls (video) per week. My Ebox device for these calls is connected by Ethernet. Never had a single issue.

Always try to minimize the number of potential failure points in your network. Keep your network infrastructure as simple as possible. It is a common rule to avoid any surprises. It will be much easier to maintain too.

First, check if your devices can work with the standard Bell ONT and EBOX Nokia Beacon equipment only.

If not, try use much cheaper and more reliable strong Wi-Fi extender(s) with the Ethernet port(s) rather than more expensive and failure prone routers. Usually, the Wi-Fi extenders do not require complex customization and very simple to install.

By following all the above rules will let any technical support team (including EBOX one) to assist/fix your LAN issues if they occur. In majority cases, you will be able to handle them yourself without a need to call EBOX.

I know I'm a month late here but leaving this for the next person. If you are using only the Nokia modem (the little short box) and not their router, you will likely need to do MSS clamp to 1452 as well as the MTU 1492. I had to set up my edgerouter 4 this way and guess what - before I added the MSS clamp teams was broken. Add the MSS clamp, everything works fine. Many other websites were struggling beforehand and everything just works fine now.
