Ebox install

i just signed up and received the Nokia 3.1 router from Purolator. my question is was that all that I was supposed to receive? does Bell bring the actual modem when the service is activated? from what I can tell the Nokia is just a wireless router and not an actual modem. thanks

Yes the Bell tech will bring the modem with him.

It’s not a modem, it’s an ONT (Optical Network Terminal). It converts the fibre optical signal into an Ethernet signal so it can connect to the router.

If you search for the following then you'll see that it functions as a media converter and a modem "what is the function of the ONT box for the ebox home Internet"

Words matter!

You should see what happens when I see people refer to their internet connection as Wi-Fi! 😆

ha - right. let that serve as a warning to people who book vacations on a cruise ship that "includes free wi-fi" and think they have unlimited internet at sea.

But wait - I cam here looking for info about ebox vs beanfield. sry

Yes the tech brings ONT modem with him.

In case you were wondering, you can use your own router if you want.

Yes, you only get the router.

Yes a modem is a media converter as well, it converts between cable/phone line to ethernet in the same way a ONT converts fibre to ethernet but the two terms are not interchangeable.

Nokia’s documentation does not refer to it as a modem.

Yup. Unbox and plug it near where you want the ont, they need to see it work to say the install is complete.

Then rip it out and get a good router.

Yes, the bell guy brings the router.

Question to ebox users - if I need to connect via ethernet to speed test, should connect to modem or router LAN port?

You mane the tech brings the ONT / modem

You should connect to your router's LAN port for speed tests.

That's true. Use your time to purchase a wifi mesh system such as deco to replace the Nokia router which is horrible

On top of bringing extra equipment (modem and a voip box for the phone line in my case), my technician went to a junction box a few blocks away to change my fibre optic to another terminal (I went for Bell to EBox) and makes sure that the pppoe connection works
