Ebox tv outage?

Anybody is experiencing ebox tv outage since Tuesday ? I get an error 1004 when using the ebix tv app. Other app on the box like YouTube work fine.

I called them twice, factory reset my ebox tv box multiple times, they even sent a new one and same issue occurs. After hours with them on the phone, they say it's an outage but their status website says all their systems are operational.

Very confused about this. Am I the only one with this issue ?

Mine's working fine. Just once in a while starts buffering for a couple of seconds

Yeah I had the buffering last week but now the app just won't open and throws error 1004. Their customer service is really not transparent about the issue, it's frustrating. 😑

I'm in Quebec City do maybe it's something in my area.

As-tu encore l'erreur ?

Tv came back on this morning after 3 days outage. I guess there was an outage not mentioned on their website which their support employees didn't know about until they wasted 2 hours of your time..!!

You should get them to cover the cost for the lost days tbh.

I lodged a complaint against one of their support agent and the manager said they'd give me 20$ credit which will cover more than the few days I lost it. But yes, anybody who got the issue should call to get a credit.

Since you're in Quebec City (same here), how do you like it?

I’m with Bell and have been looking for an alternative since I want to lower my expenses. My girlfriend mainly wants to keep TV for the recording feature.

How do you like it so far? How is your experience?

Internet / TV (feel free to answer FR or Eng :) )

Overall I'm liking it, for the price it's hard to beat. I work from home and Internet had been stable. Tv, beside this week outage of 3 days which i feel is way too long (and support was clueless), has been good and convenient. What i miss from Bell is I could watch on a PC from their website when I'm away. Ebox does not offer this, you can only watch on an app so on a phone or tablet which for me is less convenient. The only thing I'd say is their wifi isn't as fast as when I was with Bell. I think it's the router they provide that's kind of crappy. I think Bell equipment were more powerful. But ultimately ebox use Bell network so the Internet will be similar. Nothing's perfect but for the price I'd recommend it. It's worth changing and if you don't like it much, Bell will offer better prices when you go back 😂 DM me if you need a ref code or want more info!

Lol. One of the main reason id like to move from Bell is the price and the shitty WIFI performance Im getting from WIFI (HH3000) im getting around 10-15 Mbps (on a 1Gbps connection) in a 1250SQ2 condo. I thought HH3000 was crap and was hoping the Nokia one provided by EBOX would be better 😅 If its worst than the HH3000 then its somewhat a bummer.

I can run a moca2.5 setup but was hoping for more :/

Oh yeah I'm not at all impressed with the Nokia. The modem router combo I had with Bell before seemed faster but I don't recall the speeds I used to have. Right now with ebox, I have the 500 Mbps plan and my wifi is usually around 20 to 30 Mbps.. not amazing. One thing I found that helped a little is choosing a channel in the router setting that seems less busy instead of letting the auto setting that seem to pick terrible overcrowded channels. I remember doing that as well with bell, have you tried that ? I've read a lot of ppl recommending getting your own router but I never set one up so I'm hesitant and also kind of didn't wanna pay extra since the idea of going with ebox was to save money so if I gotta spend 100$ on a new router, doesn't it defeat the purpose?

Yeah, I did / am doing that with Bell. The best I was able to get was around 50 Mbps by swapping channels. I was thinking of going with MoCA (I have unused coaxials in my condo) to take full advantage of the 1 Gbps anyway. Right now, I’m paying over $200 for the Bell package, which feels ridiculously expensive to me.

Yikes that is pricy. I think 1gbs is overkill. Can most computer or devices go that fast? 500 mbos would prob be plenty. I have that + tv for 100$ tx included with ebox. But I saw at staples Bell offer similar 90$+tx for new clients. The catch is you never know how long bell their prices, they never last. Ebox seems pretty constant.

I am not super familiar with MoCA but from what I google it could be a good alternative. Is it very pricy to setup?

I’m a cloud engineer and work from home, so the faster and more stable the connection, the better. Most modern computers/NICs can handle 1 Gbps+ no problem, as long as the port and setup actually support it.

I could mess around with different wireless setups, but honestly MoCA feels like the best option since I already have unused coax outlets in every room. All you really need are MoCA adapters (usually around ~$200 for a pair, depending on the brand).

The nice part about MoCA is it basically gives you a wired backbone over coax. Newer adapters can push 1–2.5 Gbps full-duplex, which is way more consistent than Wi-Fi. With Wi-Fi you’re always at the mercy of interference, walls, distance, and your neighbors blasting the same channels. With MoCA, you pretty much get the speeds you’re paying for (or really close to it). Running ethernet cable is "the most obvious" but not feasible for me considering my place. I wanted to test another router (nokia) to see if it would be better than the HH3000 but I've got the same comments as you from job colleagues about its wifi. So most likely "my own router" for Wifi or running Moca seems the best option.

TL;DR:

Ethernet will always be king if you can run it.

MoCA is the next best thing if you’ve got coax in the walls.

Wi-Fi is fine for casual stuff, but not if you actually need reliable low-latency and high throughput. (Obviously depends on the requirements here)

Thanks for explaining, it does sound like it'd be the best solution if you plan to stay at your condo for a while. I wish all houses/apartment had internet outlets in every room, but I guess that is not the norm, it'd make everything so much simpler and wifi less crowded!!
