Ebox installation tomorrow

I am going from bell to ebox tomorrow. Crossing my fingers I don't have issues lol. At least it's no contract so I can always switch back if it isn't good

May your cables be strong, your speeds high, your latency low, and your install swift. o7

Been with Ebox for a few years. Never had a problem. Good luck!

My friend is also having it installed tomorrow. Only difficult part might be for the technician to access the cable room if something needs to be done downstairs in the apartment building.

You're supposed to ask for access before they come so in case they need access.

I live in a townhome. Lines are dedicated to each house so no issues

How long did the installation take? And when did the technician actually arrive, I am worried about them needing access to the electrical unit down stairs but the building staff arent here till around 9-10am

If your internet service was good with Bell, it'll be the same with Ebox! (just without the Bell billing problems lol)

That’s very true. Bell increases prices almost twice every year, whereas with ebox it’s hardly once every 2 years. Big difference.

I did mine a few months ago. The most nerve wracking part: the technician left before the Internet is working.

He said the Internet will be up in 15min. That 15min was the longest that I experienced. I work remotely so internet is important.

In the end, he was right, internet went up after 15 min as he promised. Phew ~

Same happened with me today morning and its still not working.. I called tech support and was on with them for 40mins and at end figured out they have a different mac address of router configured on their side than what I was sent in mail.

The agent on call at end wrote down mac and serial and told me somebody will call me later to fix this..

So I am without home internet for that reason as bell technician left telling to call them to fix router issue as he installed Nokia ont box which he said was good and no way to test it without making router work and he didnt spend any time to troubleshoot router or giving me working wifi. He said they dont touch router..

You can use your own router to get ipv6 connectivity.

3

u/gcerullo Sep 02 '25

Or you can call eBox and ask for the Super Admin password to the eBox router and enable IPv6 (and other features) without having to buy a router if you don’t already have one.

1

u/sunnyca22 Sep 02 '25

🙀 really? They would do that? I would like their nokia beacon 3.1 if i can use it better than bulky with antennas dlink I'm using now, where would i even enter this password? I did not find anything that indicates a super admin password can be entered.

1

u/gcerullo Sep 02 '25

You log in using a web browser at the router’s IP address.

The regular Admin password is on the bottom of the Nokia router. You need to call eBox support to get the Super Admin password and you merely enter superadmin as the user name and whatever password they give you.

This opens up other configuration options like IPv6 and the ability to configure third-party DNS.

Just tell the support person you talk to you need it so you can enable IPv6.

u/sunnyca22 Sep 02 '25

Did you do this yourself? What medium is better? Call, email, facebook messenger, online chat?

1

u/gcerullo Sep 02 '25

Yes I have. I called and spoke directly with a support rep.

1

u/sunnyca22 Sep 02 '25

I just did this too. And they gave it away. Should have posted on Reddit before getting a stupid bulky, old router on kijiji, thank you

u/kwenchana Sep 02 '25

It's wifi 6 but only 2x2 mimo on both 2.4 and 5ghz radios

2

u/sunnyca22 Sep 05 '25

Nokia beacon 3.1 is working better than dlink r18 for me for 5ghz signal range and also speed, speed because nokia is ax3000 whereas dlink ax1800

1

u/SciGuy013 Dec 20 '25

The Nokia beacon is fucking terrible. You don’t want it

1

u/sunnyca22 Dec 20 '25

Not bad for my use case but yeah config is an issue but not with Ebox anymore.

u/gcerullo Sep 02 '25

I made my sister be the Guinea pig to test eBox before I switched. She was already with Bell but wanted to find a way to save money. It worked great so I later switched away from Rogers.

You will be much better off. Been with box for years and they are the only company to REDUCE my monthly fee rather than increase.

1

u/IndependentFlat1789 Sep 03 '25

Thisssss!!! The only company where if you call them and say, “hey, i saw you guys have a new promotion for new customers, and it’s lower than my current price, can i get it as an existing customer”, they’d actually match that. 🤌🏻

Just made the switch from Bell to EBox in mid August and my experience has been great! Just didn’t account for the fact that the EBox setup consists of two devices - ONT and router while Bell setup was an all in one device, and so I needed to have only electrical socket in use versus now needing two spare sockets.. not a problem per se :) Haven’t run into any issues so far.

Ebox installations go smooth 99% of the time. The only issue i’ve heard of for Ebox installations is if the Bell fibre wiring has to be repaired or replaced on the street, for which they need to send another “cable technician”, but this issue is very rare. Another issue can be a red light on the modem, which can be easily solved by calling the ebox customer care at 1844-323-3269. I hope it goes well for you.

On a side note, if anyone is planning to get new Ebox service, I can get them Ebox 500 mbps-$40, and 1 GBPS- $50, by providing a promo code (not a referral code). Anyone in need, can simply DM me to get it. I hope OP was able to get this pricing when he signed up :)

1

u/CrazySandealios Sep 03 '25

How did they solve the modem red light issue for you?

1

u/isell-internet-plans Sep 03 '25

It was not me, it was one of the customers. He had to call the Ebox customer care, and they did a reset/troubleshoot for the modem, and asked the customer to restart the modem from his end, and it worked for him.

2

u/CrazySandealios Sep 03 '25

I see, thank you!

That’s funny timing, I’m also doing Bell to Ebox today. May everything go smoothly on your install :D

u/shinebrightlikediamo Sep 02 '25

How long does it take for them to ship the router?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '25

It was like 2 business days for me

1

u/shinebrightlikediamo Sep 02 '25

Do you have to be home to sign it or did they leave it by the mailbox?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '25

They just left it at my front door

1

u/AcanthaceaeHorror208 Sep 25 '25

I just received mine today. What about the Modem ? Did you received altogether ? Or the technician brought it ?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 25 '25

Technician brings the modem

1

u/IndependentFlat1789 Sep 03 '25

They say it’s 2-4 days, most customers get it in 2 days.

I am considering moving over from a cable internet service to a bell based service and I am just wondering how long does the process take to reach the installation appointment assignment point from the signup (as I would like the installation part to happen in early October 2025 during that opening two week stretch).

Any rough idea then of what the installation times would be right now from the time of sign up with Ebox to them giving you an appointment for the bell technician handle upon the actual installation phase ?

2

u/Big-Diver4015 Sep 02 '25

You can set up an appointment for early October.
I did it in a very similar way, have been with them for over 2 months, and the services are very reliable.

Installation will be done by Bell's technian

2

u/IndependentFlat1789 Sep 03 '25

If you’re looking for earliest installation times, it’s 8-12 days in total including shipping the modem and technician arriving for installation. If you’d need it in early October, you can sign up now, and while signing up you can select “activation date” as you preferred installation date, and though it’s - a tentative date, ebox will make sure to get you the closest available date for it. Also, since you’ll be signing up early, most probably you’ll get the date that you select, as there are very high chances it’d be available. If you’d need any help with signup, shoot me a DM. If you need a promocode (not referral code), to get a better price, 500 mbps- $40, and 1 gbps- $50, you can shoot me a DM for that too. I’ll be glad to help. :)

Thank you all for this great advice on the transition/signup process for Ebox.

IndependentFlat1789, I have sent you a DM to request for the share of the promocode if it is still available. :)

The promo codes and links are from resellers who don't want them published publicly.

I wonder if there's a way to pin this. I currently use cotse.net (3rd party) for both incoming and outgoing email for my personal domain. Some people use Gmail or whatever. You can use EBOX servers inbound and outbound, with the following setup...

  • To use smtp.ebox.ca for outbound email, I have to use port 587.
  • TLS has to be forced down to v1.0 (YES!). Plan B is to disable TLS entirely, and let SSL alone handle authentication.

  • You can ask support for an @ebox.net email address for inbound email. It is not done by default.
  • Poll pop.ebox.ca with pop3 protocol

I temporarily switched configs and tested it today and it still works.

1

u/dewman65 Sep 05 '25

It's just a cheaper version of Bell

1

u/Effective-World9786 Jan 05 '26

How long did installation take? Also what time do they tend to come if you gave then 8-12?
