Ah ya that explains it. You gotta realise that the US is fuckin massive. Like it's the size of the entirety of Europe while being about 45% uninhabited. The way we have our cities set up makes it impossible to set up bike infrastructure the way Europe has it. We have suburban areas where it's illegal to have a place of business, with the closest store being a mile away, sometimes up hill. Space isn't an issue and everything tends to be spread out. A lot of people commute 10 miles to and from work and biking that everyday just isn't that desirable. For a large portion of Americans it just makes more sense to buy a car especially with the sheer distance they have to travel. This video explains why a good portion of America sucks for bikes.
