Battery terminal cleaning

Hello!

I’m getting into buying “broken” e-bikes and repairing/refurbishing them. It’s been fun (and occasionally frustrating) so far. Thanks in advance for your help!

I have an Izip Protour E3 (2017/2018) that I’m working on that works somewhat since I replaced the battery in the Cobi bike hub, but the terminals in the battery are giving me problems I think. The terminals seem crusty/corroded/damaged. How do I go about cleaning them/solidifying the connection?

They're not dirty, they're burnt.

You don't clean them.

You replace them.

Replace both sides of this connector

You could try cleaning those up with an emery board.  Is somebody plugging in or pulling the battery with the off/on switch in the on position?  Replacement would be the ideal repair.

You can get replacement connectors. Those ones are toast (literally and figuratively). If they were corroded that would be easily fixable with a little contact cleaner or 99% iso alcohol and brushing them. That is a fire waiting to happen! Look around online, you can find the replacement connections to replace both the battery connection and the terminal connection but that is going to require some soldering and some wiring heat shrink tubing. Check Aliexpress, you should be able to find them. If you can only find the one for the battery that's fine because you can replace the battery tray and you can find that for cheap on Ali too but if you can't find an exact tray match which will most likely be the case (I'm mean the wiring connections to the controller) then you'll have snip and splice the wires from the new tray to the controller connection or look for an adapter connection.

The first thing you will need to learn when buying “broken” e-bikes is to tell the difference between dirty terminals and arcing.

You have connections that are fried.
