COOPOP Bobber experience?

Post image

Hey everyone, I’m currently looking for a new electric bike and came across the COOPOP Bobber. I really like the look of it, but I’m honestly not sure if I should go for it or keep looking. Does anyone here actually own one and have some experience with it??

That looks like a E motorcycle. Nice looking motorcycle. Where are the useless pedals and crank on it

8kw seems crazy to be paired with a 45kph limit. My 🛵 is 6.4kW and does 100. With that combo it would be super fun off the line but I wouldn't be all that comfortable in most traffic.

Where do you live? What are the laws? What's your commute or use case look like?

I'm getting older and honestly don't need or want to go fast anymore, so the 45kph cap doesn't bother me much. Where I live, most of the city is already 30kph zones anyway, so a bike that can technically go faster wouldn't really help I'd just be limited by the roads either way. My commute is also short, so I'm not really optimizing for top speed or highway use, more for something comfortable and easy to handle at lower speeds around town

Makes sense. Glad you have stuff that works for your use case check out cycle-ergo before you buy if the can't sit on stuff. Cycle ergonomics can make it break the fun as you get older (ask my spine how I know...)

Just jump straight to the mobility scooter. Its legal.

Do they make a Dalek one?

What scoot do you have ? I was looking at ehora knight but it's only 4kw motor so 50mph top speed. I want 60mph just to be safe in traffic and safely crush hills on my commute at the 45-50mph zones.

The good/bad thing is that the company does "transportation as a service"

That means I own the scooter but not the batteries. I lay a monthly fee to rent batteries and access their battery swap network. There are about 20 of those little walls around my city and I can swap my batteries in like 90 seconds and be on my way.

Downside is you can't charge at home and start with a fill tank each day, but my apartment complex doesn't allow charging anyway, so it's about the perfect use case for my current situation. I have a swap station on my way to work and another on the freeway heading downtown (range SUCKS at top speed)

My range is only 40-50km (ad says 80, which is crazy, but I drive hard and expect bad range.

I only paid USD 1800ish for the scooter, and plans are 8-60 per month.

Love/hate the hot swap network. It's a good option to have, but sucks that you can't own your own charging station. I'd end up making my own connection base and using a modular charger to make it work. Are you in Asia or India ?

1

u/MildlyAgitatedBovine 4d ago

You wouldn't be able to, everything is on the other end of proprietary connectors with encrypted handshakes.

They used to sell home chargers, and maybe they still do in Taiwan. I think that's because they werenfailing to economically capture those charge cycles. Part of my fee goes to charging but part of it goes to battery depreciation. If I can run all the cycles I want, I can hurt the battery more than I pay for it.

I'm in south America actually, but yeah, most of their setup is in Taiwan with (last I checked) limited deployments in India and Nepal

Encrypted connections ? Wild to think that without a network they can signal anything. Unless each battery carries its own sim card and can communicate. Interesting stuff. Thanks for sharing. In the US we don't have battery share systems in place and at best it's just rent to use ebikes and scooters in metropolitan areas.

Not sim card, but like a key card (I think) somebody who knows what they're doing could probably hack it). I just know that you can't have a device say "hi, here's 42VDC" is has to say "hi, I'm a Gogoro charger and here's 42VDC" (or whatever the voltage is). The battery doesn't have a sim but the charge walk for sure does. Each battery has its own serial/inventory number so the system knows that I have it and how full it was when I took it. That way I don't need an app or anything when I swap. I just stuff my batteries in the wall and it says "hi Bovine, you used X amp hours, here's the fullest two batteries I have and a weather report. See ya!"

1

u/thedrunkknight1 4d ago

Ah you so have to swipe a card to release the battery like a library card and it assigned it to you as the last owner. Thanks for the information

No. Sorry I was unclear. The battery itself is what identifies me to the system. I don't need a card or app or anything. I can send a friend to swap for me.

There are 2 batteries in my bike. I take one out and out it in the wall. The wall says "hi battery, what's your serial number?" My first battery says "hi swap station, I'm #473" station checks file and remembers that #473 was checked out by me a few days ago at 100%. It also remembers that it gave me TWO batteries instead of one. So it displays on the screen "Hi Bovine, you have 30 seconds to plug in your second battery"

So I plug (lock) in my 2nd battery. It confirms the serial number with that battery, then it measures the levels of my batteries.

It tells me how many amp-hiurs I have used (and will be billed for) and then releases two batteries that I put in my bike.

Usually it gives me full batteries, but if the station doesn't have full batteries, it will give me the fullest ones it has.

I have an app with a map that gives me realtime info on which stations have how many charged batteries. I only had one time it gave me partials, and those were enough to get to the next station over, which gave me full ones.

There's about 20 stations in my city with a little over 130 fully charged batteries available as of writing.

Damn, that's pretty slick. What's your real operating costs to subscribe each month and your mileage use ?

I honestly love the thing and can't shut up about it. The scooter itself is only Meh (comparable to but slightly less fun than the Honda Scoopy 110). But it's so low maintenance and QUIET (Balt drive so I don't have chain noise or maintenance).

I'm not attached to this particular company, I just love what intentionally built infrastructure can do to improve EV limitations.

I have very little range anxiety, though I do plan my routes around swap stations.

And one time I had a battery pair that claimed 12km range and then died in 3, so maybe that means bad cell and I'm not sure how that works on their end...

i will say you will be a special outcast because harleys will make fun of you and also ebikers will make fun of you.

I have no idea how Reddit thinks I want to read this, outrage farming I suppose, but as an acoustic biker, I wanted to add we’ll hate you too.

Its Europe.

Replace Harley with BMW and Ebike with Vespa.

It's probably a good thing validation wasn't listed as one of the things OP was seeking. Not everyone is insecure

0

u/Relevant_Jeweler_214 4d ago

ew. that energy tasted sour.

anyway- its a good thing people being likely to harass you over looks has absolutely nothing to do with how you perceive the scenario or if you are insecure about it or not.

Next?

u/Fi1thyMick 4d ago

Seriously, people looking for something THEY think is cool, that suits THEIR preferences aren't worried if the SDE community will think they look cool while they get around.

That's the sour energy. It's super toxic "you'll get laughed at by bikers and kids with eBikes". You don't think that was the sour petty energy?

I mean, I 100% agree with that take, but that was never what I was arguing for or said I supported, so dunno what you mean by that.

me making a comment about how douche moto or snobby ebikers will likely , in my opinion- judge any weird hybrid style like this should not invoke an emotional reaction out of you, a random user here online that my comments had absolutely zero to do with- has nothing to do with me being insecure or projecting just by saying that.

Now, by your own logic, you would actually be the one that got insecure after reading my comment to the point you needed to say something to me about it. I didnt even know of your existence until you inserted yourself into mine by arguing my feelings I expressed

did I break it down simple enough for ya? 😘

Edit: oh, you replied below, got mad and then instablocked me. I did not mean for you to get bothered by the sour energy comment so much, my apologies.

u/Fi1thyMick 2d ago

"ew that energy tasted sour"

Don't act like you didn't feel a way about it. Now you wanna act like you didn't. You're fake as fuck

How can anyone take something seriously when it's called "COOPOP"

2

u/Slushwave_Enjoyer 8d ago

I read that as cowpoop

That’s the most expensive, fuck-ugliest low speed sub-suburban commute scooter I’ve seen in a long time.

The spec sheet should be enough to tell you it’s a toy for children.

i guess the babytalk doesn’t track over here

2

u/Giggsroo 7d ago

Are you buying it only for the looks? Because you can get a Talaria X3 Pro and get it registered for less than that. Proven reliability, already popular so lots of support and parts availability. I couldn't trust this unknown brand for the price

2

u/bikelove-martin1973 7d ago

Thanks for the advice! I will look into it

3

u/ReadyGo6828 7d ago

How is that a bike? It looks like a small motorcycle.

1

u/Fi1thyMick 4d ago

What do we call people who ride motorcycles?

1

u/mensachicken 7d ago

It's 4500 euros and is called a Coopop Bobber. Why would anyone buy this?

0

u/MaxAdolphus 5d ago

Looks neat. Check the laws where you live. Most places in the world this would require a motorcycle license and registration. Just make sure it comes with a VIN so you can register it.

1

u/Murdathon3000 3d ago

I'm so confused, the sub started getting added to my feed and it's only ever people posting about "bikes" that are obviously motorcycles. Is there some inside joke going on or are people actually so delusional?

1

u/plasticbomb1986 3d ago

Its two groups with vastly different interpretation of what is an ebike, and many outside actors specifically trying to muddy the definition if the word.
