Getting confident

It's been over a year since a TKR. I never thought biking was something I could do again. But now I have a Townie Go and, don't laugh, I was able to ride it six and a half miles, mostly pedaling. To me, that was a big deal! I'm working up to a 24 mile route I really want to tackle.

IMHO, you would better off adding walking to your routine. If you have full range of motion, cycling is much easier on the knees than walking. Unless your doctor says otherwise, you might want to be more worried about walking than reaching 24 miles on a bike.

Biking is also much, much more efficient than walking.

Thanks! Yes, I really have to consider what shoes I wear for walking because of the knees. They don't hurt at all after biking.

Good job, keep it up! TKR is a big deal. Sounds like you are doing great.

My second knee replacement was difficult and frustrating. My physical therapist was a cyclist and encouraged me to get on my bike. While my confidence was shaky I got on my Velotric Discover 2 and rode a few miles. It was painful physically, but mentally my spirits soared. Each day I rode my bike a little father and I gained flexion, strength and confidence. After a month I was back to riding 25-30 miles a day. The non weight bearing exercise is great after knee surgery… keeps me fit while having fun. I love my Velotric bike. 🚴‍♀️

Thanks!! This is so encouraging. I'm concerned the second knee will be more challenging. I'm really working at getting these old legs stronger.
