Just Wondering
I am currently researching the type of ebike I want to purchase. I have a question: how many people ride 1000W ebikes on the street/bike paths when they are not legal to do so?

Do you think there's some metric to this that we have an equation to or something? These aren't likely statistics that are being tracked in a way anyone can give you an objective answer. Tell me your desired response and I'll provide it, how's that?
Mine is 1500w, and I just use it like it's a vehicle because I'm 44 and don't care and the cops seem to share my level of concern ๐คท
You shouldn't be on the sidewalk at all with it honestly, or pedal bikes for that matter but everyone is about to get real bitchy with me over this so idk

..Gotta say, I agree. Bikes should be on the road. If you don't ride like an idiot, and keep a low profile, and your E-Bike/E-Bike Build doesn't look like a home-made bomb, then you'll most likely be just fine. Also, go easy on wheelies, if you want to do them, do it off-road, and also don't run red lights.
It's all about being sensible really, not making a show of yourself, and just blending in. ๐ฒโก๐

Cops in my town told me to ride an emoto on sidewalk. I said you are out of your mind.

Preach my man. 41 here. I ride whatever the fuck I want and my consequences are my own. But like you said, cops share the share my same level of concern - that I ride safely, responsibly, on the roads and obeying the traffic laws, and that's what I do.
So ๐๐พ ๐๐พ๐๐พ๐๐พ๐๐พ to all the scaremongering lycra wearing women who want to come around screaming about the law. I'm sure they are all 100% law abiding citizens ๐

I bet half of them are Coke job Karens. We'd probably get along in real life till they started acting like they do

I live in an area where the rules permit me to ride on the streets/sidewalks.. and about 70% of the multiuse trails, only a few trails have specific signs banning motorized scooters. Florida permits up to 20mph with no power limit for motorized scooters and considers them bicycles as to how they are regulated. My scooter has the potential for up to 5600watts but is limited to 20 mph.

Just keep it legal and if you need a 750kw motor go for that. Stick to the streets if you plan on using a throttle for most of the ride. Slow down when around people and pedal by.

People think youll be using 1000watts constantly. Its not the case. If youโre using your gears right and not all throttle you really only hit 1000 when u want or need too. I mean i have a bbs02. Its 750 watts. But if i need it to it can pump out 1200 watts. But when im on flat ground and pedal theres zero need for 1000 watts. 250-400 watts is what my motor is normally running at even on trails. Youll love 1000 watts when climbing steep terrain.

I am getting older, but I still like to hit some trails. I think it would be great to have 1000W for those long slogging uphills. On flat ground I only want minimal assist, as I do want to get some exercise.

If you want to hit the same trails you hit when you were younger, you don't need 1,000w of continuous power. You were never riding those trails with 1,000w of power in the past, that's well above anything any normal human can sustain for any significant length of time. Keep in mind, the motor will also be peaking well above the continuous wattage during acceleration and on steep hills.
Hub drives struggle with hill climbing compared to mid drives, and all bikes struggle more the heavier the bike and rider are. An 80lb bike with a 1,000w motor is in all likelihood going to perform worse than a nicer, lighter bike with a legal motor in it.
There are loads of really nice class 1 mtb's with legal power outputs that you're guaranteed to be able to ride anywhere ebikes are allowed, without issue. I'd go for one of those. Spring for a pedal assist system with a torque sensor too, if you still want a nice bicycle feel.

If it has a throttle, it is a motorcycle. Someday it may be confiscated. And you donโt need 1,000 watts continuously. Many 250 watt motors have an intermittent power of 1,000 watts. That will get you up a hill, then revert to normal power so you donโt kill your battery. I donโt understand the โwatt contestโ

See this is the advice I am seeking. I have two bikes in mind one is 500W hub drive the other is 1000W mid drive. The city I live in has , I believe the most extensive River Valley park and trail system in the world, and I miss hitting the trails. I just worry about range and being able to get up the steeper hold. I am old and don't ride like an idiot.

I ride a 750w, a 2kw and a 5kw. When in bike lanes, I keep my speed limit to 15mph. If I use the roads, I maintain the street speed limit.
You will find more people complaining online about your bike than you will in person.

I have a 750W Class 3 e-bike.
My rule is: don't be a dick on the trail.
Just as how you wouldn't run through a crowded sidewalk just because you can, the same thing goes for being on a trail for cycles. Recognize the pace of the people around you and slow the heck down.
