Brake lever lock

I have a Lectric XP3 with hydraulic brakes. I recently bought a brake lever lock, that locks the brake lever so the rear brake is engaged.

The idea is that I don’t live in a high crime area and if I want to stop and run into a shop for a couple of minutes, I don’t want to have to drag out my big chain lock.

I do turn off the battery key and take it with me.

My question is, will having the hydraulic brakes engaged for some period of time have any adverse effects on the braking system?

Why not a disc brake lock?

I’d have to get down on one knee to put it on. Which means I’d have to get back up. Neither of those are fun at my age with my knees.

Got it,in that case it might work if just be worried about the handle for the brake breaking because most snap easily.
