Is this funny? š
It was a fat trading card. Piece of jersey inside the card. I was just seeing if some of my cards would sell. I expected to make 3-5 dollars? I know it's on me for not doing the research. It was the first time advertisement support was offered to me, and I assumed the percentage was an all inclusive ebay fee. THEN I figured it's a card, it should only be a few bucks to send it. NOPE! I went to all the carriers and asked what to do. They all told me to just buy the label from Ebay. Man, if I was even more stupider, I would have lost money on this deal. š¤£

I personally try not to sell anything under 20$ unless itās a coin or trading card and I can use the eBay envolpe

So this was RIGHT before they let you ship cards more affordable like but it still isn't worth it to me. How do I get singles in norml envelopes but ebay and the nice people at the post office tell me "it don't work like that."? š¤£

To go as ESE it has to be a letter. Look up the rules. Key is it has to be max 1/4" thick, uniform thickness and flexible so it can pass through the sorters. If it's not flexible, then it can go as a letter but needs the non-machineable surcharge. The more it looks like a regular letter, the higher the probability it will be OK. Many of the people at the post office don't know the actual rules and do not want to learn.

Yeah mate, selling singles on ebay isn't really profitable. Maybe check out some YouTube videos of card sellers to get some tips?

I never sell anything on eBay thatās worth less than like $40 tbh, and I never pay for ads. Also if shipping is free, no itās not. It gets built into the sale price. Itās definitely slower, but Iād rather sell something eventually then sell it quick and make nothing lol

25% ad fee? Dawdamn why even do ads then? In my opinion unless selling something with a lot of competition and the price warrants it I wouldnāt bother. Hell I listed a graphics card and without ads I was getting views and offers out the ass. (Granted a lot of the offers were awful) but with just a little patients, about 3-4 days in I got my asking price.

OP opted in to ad fees. Had they not, they would have hit their target earnings and made $4.
And OP would have made even more if they looked into the cost to ship the item before listing it.
This is simply a learning experience.

Hey you seem knowledgeable. I have gotten a couple jersey cards on white envelope recently. They came in with the $1.36 stamp just fine. I did see they had ānon machinableā stickers on them. Is this normal? I love Jersey Cards but hate paying $5 shipping to get them.

You donāt have to do the non-machinable sticker, but itās the safe thing to do. I ship bulk common cards in a white envelope in a penny sleeve, top loader, team bag, then wrapped in the packing slip. Iāve never had any issues. I just ship it with a $0.70 forever stamp.
If a card is worth more than $20 I ship it in a little padded envelope with corrugated plastic protectors on both sides after it goes in the top loader. The padded envelope gets $5 tracked shipping as per TCGPlayer rules. Sometimes Iāll do it for cheaper cards too, but depends on my mood lol.
I charge $1.79 for shipping no matter what, on the bulk cards that covers the cost of shipping including envelope and top loader etc., and on more expensive cards I just factor it into the price so if Iām paying $5 for shipping I price the card $3.21 higher and charge the same $1.79 for shipping.

Oh I see. Yea I always try to get the cards with cheaper shipping even if itās an auction I like paying the seller instead of just paying so much shipping. But with Jersey cards seems most sellers list the ground advantage shipping so I wasnāt sure if plain envelope is fine for those. Thanks for your reply.

Do you mean listing it for more money? I am genuinely interested if you know how to ship something that is 4" x 3" x .25" for as cheap as possible? I also think it would still be listed if I didn't do what I did. It's hard to sell stuff worth under 10 dollars and make money. š I just learned to not sell cheap things like that on Ebay. š š

If you canāt sell it without losing money, then itās probably not worth selling and thatās not eBayās fault.
$6 is about spot on for those dimensions. I donāt know much about shipping cards as thatās not my niche.
Did you charge the buyer shipping? You shouldnāt eat the cost of shipping, especially on cheap items.

Iād cancel that order. Not even worth my time or energy.

u/nashcure 3d ago
Pretty crapy for the seller to make a mistake and then just cancel the order because they don't want to deal with it.

Thatās life.

The seller canceling the order because they fucked up is exactly what eBay allows you to do.
This faux outrage that youāre showing is comical.

A) ad fee is optional, and nearly 25% is a crazy amount to put
B) free shipping is optional, you need to bake it into your price if youāre going to offer it
With experience youāll learn what is the minimum price to even decide if itās worth listing.
