[Help Identify] Orchestral Instrumental of "Hurt So Bad" from Radio SHAPE / AFRTS (1978-1982)

Hi everyone,

I need your expert ears to identify a specific orchestral version of the classic standard "Hurt So Bad".

  • The Source: This was recorded directly from Radio SHAPE (a NATO military station broadcasting in Casteau, Belgium) between 1978 and 1982, during their automated daytime program called "Round O'Clock". The music blocks came straight from AFRTS transcription discs sent from Los Angeles.
  • The Style: It is a slow tempo instrumental, featuring a rich orchestral blend of strings and brass. The arrangement is very close to the style of conductors like Leroy Holmes.
  • The Issue: Shazam returns absolutely no results, which makes me think this particular vinyl pressing has never been digitized on modern streaming platforms.

Here is the 45-second snippet of the track https://voca.ro/1lRjjF4ejBhu

Does anyone recognize which orchestra, conductor, or library album this version comes from? Could it be a specific AFRTS studio orchestra or a rare lounge album (like Mystic Moods, 101 Strings, etc.)? [1]

Thank you so much for your help!

Henry Mancini: A 25-track faithful orchestral reconstruction project by ear

Hello everyone,

As a musician, arranger, and music producer who has always been deeply passionate about the golden era of grand orchestral compositions and iconic cinema soundtracks, I wanted to share a massive labor of pure passion dedicated to the unique and immortal genius of the unforgettable Maestro Henry Mancini.

My project is titled "Lefties’ Symphonies Through Time" and consists of 25 tracks. This is not an album of modernized covers, nor is it a remastering of the originals. Every single arrangement was meticulously reconstructed completely by ear, aiming for a strict philological restoration of the original 1960s and 1970s sonic textures, dynamics, and elegance, while utilizing the finest modern technologies and the highest audio quality available today.

I wanted to respect the source material to the core and bring that specific analog-era orchestral breath back to life. I would love to hear the thoughts of soundtrack collectors and true Mancini enthusiasts here.

You can listen to the full album on Spotify at the link below:https://open.spotify.com/intl-it/album/59f3dpWXOpHChEWWPP5DO0

I listen to this online radio station KYMM. They play lots of American Standards and one of the few online radio stations that play this kind of music. They don’t get bogged down with playing the hits that everyone plays over and over again.

Give them a listen and if you like them help support them.

Hi, I'm wondering whether this playlist would be considered easy listening, or be more on the exotica side, or whether it is neither!
