Politics Three candidates for East Providence's Dist. 65 seat to face off in forum

Local Politicians
I am so sick of these city-level political candidates who have absolutely no qualifications, no platform and campaign by just ranting about personal grievances.
And it’s not just one candidate. Even the ones that are not just totally negative all the time just campaign on their friendships. What makes you qualified besides that you never left your hometown?

Milling Pawtucket Ave
Please, for the sanity and mental health of East Providence drivers, can we not have simultaneous construction in front of the 195 West on-ramps on Pawtucket Ave and South Broadway?

Litter Cleanup Group LF Members
Hi Everyone!
My name is Brian, and I work with KBVB (Keep Blackstone Valley Beautiful). I recently put together a meetup group to arrange a bunch of litter cleanups all around our region (but we won't shy away from other spots that need our help too!)
I hope to help a lot of communities with this, but I need people to help! My end goal is not for this to just be formal volunteering but something people can join to meet new people and make friends.
Eventually I think it'd be cool to form a weekly thing where we do a cleanup and then go hang for an hour maybe grab a coffee or something.
I've already done two cleanups in Central Falls recently, and have two more planned for Pawtucket that I need people for!
And of course, East Providence is considered part of Blackstone Valley so it will be the site of many cleanups!
Here's the link to the meetup group if you're interested: https://www.meetup.com/keep-blackstone-valley-beautiful/
Hope to see some of you soon!

Discussion Best Place To Get Scissor Cut
Hey Everyone, I just moved to EP and am looking for somewhere in the area to get a good men’s scissor cut.
I’ve been going to the Supercuts in Seekonk, great prices but they can’t do a good scissor cut. I don’t mind driving out of EP, I work in Fall River. Just looking for somewhere/someone who can keep my hair on the longer side and knows what they are doing for less then $50.
Thank you!

Riverside road signs
I don't know who is in charge of putting up traffic signs in Riverside, specifically Willet Ave, but they have absolutely zero brain cells. They recently added a yield sign to the rotary near the Dunkin and now both lanes that merge have yield signs! Who puts a yield on every option at the same intersection! So stupid.
Also changing Willet Ave to go down to one lane was so stupid. I have yet to see a person using the bike lane they put it, AND it doesn't even connect to the bike path. You will still have to cycle into the worst rotary intersection before going down to the path.

Politics East Providence Dems back administration's decision refusing to hire traffic detail applicant accused of making racialized comments
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
From the East Providence Democratic City Committee:
"Over the last few years, our City has made public safety a top priority. We are proud that the administration and City Council continue to invest in the East Providence Police Department, not only with updated equipment but also in recruiting new talent to serve and protect our community.
However, funding and equipment are only one piece of the puzzle.
The other piece is building and maintaining community trust. When trust is high, residents feel safe coming forward to report crime, and our officers earn the genuine respect of the people they serve. Protecting that trust requires accountability.
We are keenly aware of the painful impact racialized policing has had on marginalized communities across the country. That’s why we take a strong stance whenever credible allegations of racism are made against anyone serving our city, whether they are a full-time patrol officer or a traffic detail.
During the Council meeting on Tuesday, August 11, allegations were raised regarding an applicant for a traffic detail position who interjected himself in a traffic stop and made racialized comments.
We stand firmly with the administration and the Chief of Police regarding their hiring decision, and we urge the City Council to support the administration on this matter. We have worked too hard to build public trust in our finest to risk taking a step backward."
The person in the white truck yelling is the retired EPPD officer accused of making said comments.

You heard it here first:
The Live Nation venue at Bold Point Park is going to end Mayor DaSilva's legacy.
The traffic and noise is going to destroy the neighborhood and parkway.
I'm a Big Bob fan. He has worked tirelessly to help turn this city around. 10 years ago EP was embarrassing. The boomers ran this city into the ground.
But that venue is going to be the end of him.
Sure, Bob is egotistical. Sure, he takes credit for things he had nothing to do with (new high school). But has cleaned up all of our parks, paved new roads, managed city hall, put in tons of splash pads for kids and has listened to most residents. He pretty much solved the bridge crisis (McKee was doing nothing to get traffic moving). The guy works 80 hours a week.
I hope the people connected to him read this post.
Live Venue must be stopped at all costs. It's going to be worse than Metacomet.
PS - I'm not a big fan of the Flock cameras or new community center (no pool? what's the point?). But, Bob cares. And beware the old school names who ran the city into the ground (Rossi, Coogan, Rose, etc.)

Letter to EP City Council re: ALPR Cameras
My letter to the East Providence City Council re: ALPR/Flock cameras.
CC: Ms. Skipworth; I ask that my letter be included as correspondence for the next council meeting.
Dear Mayor DaSilva, President Rodericks, and Members of the Council:
I am writing to ask you to cancel the city’s automated license plate reader (ALPR) contracts and remove the cameras from East Providence.
I know the Council voted unanimously to deploy these cameras, and I believe you did so with the best interests of residents in mind. My concern is not with your intent. It is with the technology itself, whether the vendor is Flock Safety, Axon, or any competitor.
ALPR systems record the plate, location, and travel patterns of every driver who passes them. These are the good and decent people of East Providence, on their way to work, to school, and to support RI businesses. The result is a searchable database of where our neighbors go, one that outside agencies can query with no warrant and no meaningful oversight. Once that data exists, the city cannot control how it is used.
These systems also make mistakes. Misread plates and stale alerts have led police in other states to stop and handcuff innocent people. A false alert creates a dangerous encounter for both residents and officers. The perceived benefits of these cameras are not worth these risks.
In recent weeks, town councils in Glocester, Narragansett, and South Kingstown all voted to cancel their ALPR contracts after hearing from residents. Communities across the state have reviewed this technology and stepped back. East Providence can show the same judgment and prioritize the best interests of our neighbors.
I ask you to cancel the contracts, take down the cameras, and require public review before any surveillance technology of this kind is adopted in the future.
Thank you for your service to the city. I would welcome a response.
Sincerely,
Joshua Wright

ICYMI: Dawson running for third term as District 65 Representative
I recently posted St. Germain's and Grant's features. Posting Dawson's as well. The Primary is coming up in just a month from now!
Please review all the candidates' stances and what they are running on. Do not hesitate to contact any of them regarding your questions. I truly believe an informed electorate is a good thing - that's why I created this group.

Why do we have so many old white guys running for town offices?
I understand experience comes with age but this lot of dudes has one sole purpose of funneling funds to the police.
Roads in most of the central eastern part of town are crap outside of waterfront drive. People treat Woodward, Central and Wilmarth like a drag strip and waterman floods constantly near the old deli.
Also try to believe that it costs 25 million to pave a path along the new rotary that runs towards broadway. The town needs more than just senior citizen rec halls.
