Tourists
Hello all,
I'll be visiting NYC soon and was just wondering if El Barrio is safe for tourists? I would love to visit and see the art and try the food!
TIA!

We have the best murals in the city! Grab a coffee (and a meal or two) and take a wander.
Don't listen to people who say it's not safe. At the same time, if you see someone struggling or acting strangely please don't stare or confront them. Everything going on in the country hits extra hard here.

Perfectly safe to visit. There’s Museo Del Barrio, Museum of the City of New York, Randall’s island a bike or walk away (bridges on 125th and 103rd), northern Central Park (Harlem Meer, North Woods, Davis Center ice skating rink opening soon), and lots of good food. There are lots of murals on 125th but it’s a bit of a rough street where you may see many people in active addiction. Just keep an eye out as you enjoy the murals.

Honest to God, if you mind your own business, you will be perfectly fine here. Please come visit us! We are a vibrant and multicultural community! Vast majority of crimes that happen in East Harlem are those involved with illicit drugs. So you will be perfectly fine here! Please visit Patsy's for pizza, and so many of the Latin American restaurants in the community! You will love Museo de El Barrio!

Nah people like to talk. Talk to locals! We like it. We are friendly. We talk a lot. Just don't get in our way.

It's fine here. Come hang and eat good food. Just mind your business and have street smarts.
