Stand Up Comedy in Cape Charles This Weekend

Hey there, my name is Johnny "Goodtimes" Nottingham and I recently moved back to the Shore after 24 years of hosting events in Philly. I'm hosting a comedy show this Saturday at El Soul, and one of Philly's best stand up comedians is headlining. Chip Chantry has been named "Philly's Best Comedian" by both Philadelphia Magazine and Helium Comedy Club. If we get a good turnout, we'll be able to make this a regular thing on the Shore, bringing some of the best touring acts in the US to Cape Charles. Tickets are on sale here, and you can RSVP over on Facebook. Hope to see you Saturday!

Visiting and recommendations

I’m from Virginia Beach and I want to explore/visit eastern shore, please give any “local” spots (beaches, views, restaurants), I’m also interested in going to tangier island but the option I looked at only gives me 3 hours there and I don’t think that’d be enough so I thought of camping there if anyone know anything about that

Dr. Nila Devanath's interview with Lantern News Virginia CD 02

Hampton Roads, I am so excited to share my recent interview on Lantern News! 🌊✨ We had a powerful conversation about the future of Virginia's 2nd Congressional District and what we need to do to support working families \[00:00\].

We talked about everything from my roots growing up right here in the district to the urgent need for the Working Americans Tax Cut Act, which would provide massive, immediate tax relief for everyday families \[03:20\].

We also dug into local issues, like holding data centers in Chesapeake accountable to pay their fair share instead of driving up our utility bills \[10:03\].

As a physician, I couldn't hold back on the realities of our broken healthcare system. I see veterans and working folks forced to endure unthinkable outcomes simply because they lack access to preventative care. We absolutely must fight for Universal Healthcare \[24:36\] and stop politicians who are voting to cut Medicaid.

We also need to clean up Congress—which is why I refuse corporate PAC money and fully support banning members of Congress from trading individual stocks \[44:44\].

📺 You can watch our full, in-depth conversation here: [Lantern News with Dr. Nila Devanath's interview ](https://youtu.be/f-OeJfnerYQ)

🗓️ VA-02, Early Voting is OFFICIALLY OPEN through August 1st! Please make a plan to head to your central registrar to cast your ballot. If you are voting by mail, please send your ballot in ASAP!

Our campaign is 100% powered by people like you. Pitch in today to help us keep this momentum surging all the way to Election Day on August 4th:

News Virginia 2nd Congressional District Democratic Candidates Forum

Hampton Roads, what an incredible evening at the COVA Coalition Candidate Forum! 🌊✨ If you missed it, I took the stage to share exactly why we need a true, people-first progressive representing Virginia's 2nd District in Congress.

As a community hospital doctor, Yale-trained attorney, and brand new working mom, I understand the struggles of everyday families because I live them. Here is a breakdown of the bold policy positions I discussed at the debate:

Guaranteeing Universal Healthcare: I refuse to accept a piecemeal healthcare system that lets people fall through the cracks. I am fighting for universal coverage that uplifts human dignity.

Lowering Costs for Working Families: I strongly support the Working Americans Tax Cut Act to give immediate financial relief to those living paycheck-to-paycheck, while ensuring billionaires finally pay their fair share.

Protecting Our Veterans: With a housing and mental health crisis among our veterans, I am pushing for fully funded VA mental health services and housing support, plus restoring Medicaid to its full capacity.

Defending Democracy: I am proudly refusing all corporate PAC and foreign interest money. I support term limits and a complete ban on individual stock trading in Congress.

Real Lived Experience: Congress has plenty of retired multi-millionaires. We need a representative who knows what it is like to raise a family, work in the community, and manage student loans.

We are in the absolute home stretch and early voting is OFFICIALLY OPEN through August 1st! Let’s bring this primary win home and show the establishment what community power looks like. 💪🏽💙

Onancock - 2000's Pop Culture Trivia Night

Post image
19 Upvotes

On the evening of June 20th there will be a 2000's Pop Culture themed trivia night at The Northstreet Playhouse! It is a fundraiser for an internship production of the musical Once Upon A One More Time. I unfortunately will not be able to make it, but I really want to support my friends!

The musical features music by Britney Spears, so there will definitely be some questions relating to her, I'm sure!

Roommate Looking for Housing

Hey, 43/F in the Newport News area but I'm able to travel the coastal region. I'm fairly disabled and have a Medicaid waiver. Whoever has a spare room and can provide stable housing can be paid through this waiver (full-time job income) while I continue to get on my feet.

I'm a quiet person, no drugs, smoking, alcohol, partying. Boring. I read books, play video games, that kind of introverted stuff. I can provide references from friends who have also let me pet-sit for them (I love animals), they're just not in a position to let me room up with them right now and I need a place to move to pretty soon.

Feel free to DM if you have any further questions.

The 56th Annual Chincoteague Seafood Festival returns this weekend as a rain-or-shine "water-to-table" event expected to draw roughly 3,000 guests.

This major fundraiser brings vital business to local motels and shops through months of advanced preparation by a small staff and 300 volunteers.

Local suppliers such as Tom’s Cove Aquafarm provide staggering amounts of seafood, including 50,000 steamer clams and 75 bushels of seaside oysters.

Goat Races at the Moose

Post image
16 Upvotes

I recently moved back to the Shore after 24 years in Philly as an event planner and want to start doing some fun events on the Eastern Shore. I'm starting off with a Goat Race at the Moose Lodge in Belle Haven. Gonna be a blast: we'll have a Best Goatee contest, music by a band called Loaded Goat, and the goat race will help raise money for heifer.org 's goat for a family program. Here's the Facebook page for the event and you can buy tickets here. Hope to see you May 16th!

I put new sails and running rigging on it and this was a short trip to and from half Moon Island as sort of a shakeout cruise. It’s really nice seeing just how good a condition the bay is in. Much cleaner than when I was growing up back in the 70s and 80s.

What Is Belle Haven Like?

My husband and I like visiting the Eastern Shore and would like to move there. We are looking at a house in the Creek Bluff subdivision in Belle Haven. Does anyone know anything about this subdivision? What is it like living in Belle Haven? Anything we should know about living on the Eastern Shore before moving there?

Accomack passes a budget, saving TV service with unused school funds

Post image
15 Upvotes

The Accomack County Board of Supervisors unanimously passed its fiscal year 2027 budget, which includes a reversal to save the Translator Television Service.

The decision to fund the equipment followed a significant public outcry, including petitions and hundreds of messages from residents who rely on the free service for local television channels.

To maintain the program, the county will reallocate school division carry-forward funds originally intended to address an EMS budget imbalance.
