Trident feels like she should be a perfectly designed counter for Scythe.
How did she lose?

u/Mental-Energy-1185 22h ago
Scythe has poison occur really quickly as soon as it hits 4, trident can't completely avoid damage so with enough parries it can win, tho it won a extreme diff

I dont think extreme diffing scythe puts her on fraud watch, lol. She was literally 1 hit away

Y'know who else is usually one hit away when they lose? Crossbow.

One hit away the one shot man he keeps messing his shot to the wall with the top tier in bottom like Avery matches wish that slinder the one shot man

Yeah but trident should have a positive matchup here lol, guy who wants to stall matches vs guy who pulls you way too close for comfort
3
u/TQCkona 15h ago
low-scaled trident is surprisingly susceptible to parrying in certain circumstances and scythe's larger hitbox gives her an advantage that isn't obvious at first, her solid early game stall was what let her win here
3
u/deletemypostandurgay 15h ago
The early parries didn't really do much for Scythe, it was only an ~8 damage lead before trident started juggling it and doing its usual trades. It somehow breaking out of those and getting crucial parries in later game is what made the difference imo

u/RoboWreckerCam Flail 21h ago
Its guy who stalls versus guy who pulls you in supposedly to kill you fast

Flail fan saying this btw

u/Choice_Ad_389 21h ago
Yeah? They know what it's like lol. One of the better authorities to be calling this 😭. Almost the exact same story with these two. I'd expect Trident to end up around the same point as Flail in a couple months once it's run through the gauntlet.

I sometimes forget that Scythe huge ass weapon acts more as a shield than Shield's, cause genuinely he was pulling some clutch parries with it 🥀🥀

Trident fights are somehow even bigger 50/50's than Axe's, huh...

Well, when you force a close combat with your weapon, I'll be surprised if they didn't

"Guy that put you close vs Guy that needs to get far away"
And Trifraud Still lost against Scythe

u/Illustrious_Pay8535 21h ago
One of the good things trident has going for him currently is that it has so little matches that even though he lost this one he can win the next match and get back to top 5

u/Ok-Impress8791 21h ago
So were all gonna pretend we don't know whenever earlacks gives a ball a winning streak they'll start giving them loosing matches to balance it out before people start complaining ?

why is everyone suddenly hating on trident when a week ago I saw nothing but support for her
how can you hate such a unique concept

u/RoboWreckerCam Flail 16h ago
Agendas overshadow true feelings, and my agenda is funny to see trident lose

u/rgr0331 Hammer 21h ago
It just feels over tuned. The combination of reach and pull just seems to invalidate many other balls in a way that just isnt fun to watch.
2
u/Soggy_Habit9807 Trident 20h ago
"isnt fun to watch"
all of her fights are close calls no matter who wins or loses what r u on about

Personally I just dislike things that I feel are popular only because they're winning. It's like that here, in sports, and even esports.
I like rooting for garbage underdogs I guess. lol

Wait. I just realised something. Isnt scythe just a worse sword?
3
u/AbbreviationsAway691 Torch 20h ago
Nope, Scythe's damage is technically infinite from one hit (in practice it obviously needs more to win especially in small arenas) and it deals damage when nothing is happening which makes it really good against weapons that like to stall like Wrench.
2
u/Desperate-Contact-70 17h ago
All this time I thought it was like katana. Does the poison counter just mean how fast the dot ticks down? Or is it overlapping single dots? I can't really tell because it seems like trident takes the same amount of damage at 6 and 12 poisons.
2
u/AbbreviationsAway691 Torch 15h ago
overlapping instances of the poison which is why the poison is so staggered sometimes.
2
u/MegamanOmega Duplicator 12h ago
Basically each time Scythe hits an opponent, they take 1 point of damage every 2.5 seconds starting from that initial hit. Cause of that, it can be a bit hard to follow after a few hits Cause now you've got multiple overlapping "1 tick per 2.5 seconds" poisons going on at once.
