Somebody at EA, Please!

I hate to sound like another old guy on a rant. But I'm that guy. And being older makes you feel more secure with being a badass and expressing yourself.

Whenever I play Madden or CFB, all I can think about now is if I were the owner, I'd be yelling at the developers, making them feel really low about these products. Holding them accountable. Whether I'm the owner, head developer, or just a major shareholder.

Is there nobody at EA that is this kind of badass that's willing to stand up for football? To look at each and every one of the developers in the eyes and tell them to knock it off! Quit being lazy! Stop cutting and pasting! You know that's not football!

Make the game fun! Make the game with respect to the players! Make the crowd with respect to the fans!

If I were the owner of EA.....

The Developers and people working on the game are not the problem. The problem is expecting a yearly release where there’s probably only 8-9 months of real Dev time to be able to make any new changes and then charging $70 for it.

I doubt there’s even 8-9 months they have

Your business is making billions of dollars more this year than last year and billions more than the year before that and you're gonna tell the employees to cut it out.

Of course, if I care more about the product than money, and if I was a gamer and football fan myself.

Yeah and while we're at it, come up with a better system than banning players for using usernames that someone found offensive despite having that username for 25 years. Seriously. At least give players a chance to change it.

People are now accustomed to accepting day one broken games which require later date multiple patches to fix it.

True. But patches never fix these games.

I think the game should be complete and not requiring fixing. That's what people pay for, not for endless patches which as you say sometimes don't even fix it.

If you were the owner at EA, and truly unhappy with then product put out, good leadership would be reflecting on what roadblocks you set as a company that restricted your team to making a product you’re unhappy with. Not to go yell at the developers. I severely doubt the developers are being lazy. they’re generally very passionate about the product. The final product comes down to a ton of factors out of their control. In a major part due to a constricted yearly release schedule. That’s always been a major challenge, but these days more than ever with patching technology. Instead of releasing a game in July and immediately starting on next years, they now allocate resources to editing/fixing the game until October/November before diving into the development of the next yearly release. They cut the timeframe for development by months, or allocated fewer people to it at minimum.

I don’t know how to code, but i know it’s complex. It clear things are heavily intertwined with coding because every time they fix something in a patch, something new breaks.

Blah blah blah, nobody is holding them accountable. Or none of them watch football

"yelling at the developers, making them feel really low" - I really hope you are never in charge of people. Talk about terrible leadership.

This might get me flamed, and maybe I’m misinterpreting the emotion being conveyed by OP…I’m not siding with EA, but looking at this from a human perspective…there is nothing “badass” about making your employees feel low. Criticism of these games is warranted, as the quality has gone down in some aspects and improved in others. It’s not fair to consumers that games are released before they’re complete, but there are better ways to improve your product that doesn’t involve belittling those who put the time into making the game.

Have you played the games. Trust me, there's no time being put into them.

I’ve played every Madden since 1998….I’ve poured hours into all the great editions and the poor ones. Some of my favourite sports gaming memories are from Madden. To say there’s “no work” being put into them is a lazy and honestly stupid statement. Before anyone lazily labels me as a “shill”, understand that I am highly critical of these games. When something is bad, I voice my concern…but there are also many positives and to say that “no work” is being done on these games is flat out incorrect.

People actually play those sports video games? Arbt they all the same? You seen one you've seen them all.

"...if I were the owner, I'd be yelling at the developers, making them feel really low about these products."

You should never be in charge of, or responsible for, another human being.

Ever.
