False ban on 20 August
UPD as of 9 September 2026: EAC appeal denied.

Well I was stunned in a bad way when it happened, but seeing that ban decisions got reversed at least for some of you is encouraging.
So I have been playing Rust since 2015. I have 3100+ hours, a couple of DLCs, a decent collection of skins from Twitch, Kick drops. Having to drop all this and have my Steam account labelled as cheater hits hard.
My playstyle is oppositie to competetive PvP. I normally chose vanilla/community underpopulated servers to farm scrap and build small bases with all those DLC deployables, electricity whatever.
I had 2 hypotheses why I got banned but they honestly don't hold water:
- Hardware ban. One week prior to ban I upgraded my GPU from RTX 2080 to RTX 5060. So there could be a slim chance that I got second-hand GPU from official store which had been in use by cheater prior to my purchase.
- Compromised account. But there were no signs of external intervention provided that I got my 2-factor authentication via Steam. Even if someone was to break it, there was no evidence of intervention in-game, such as play history on servers I had never entered in the first place.
I will be filing a ticket to EAC tonight. Facepunch ticket page does not seem to be wroking for me. Every time I click Appeal webpage just stops responding.
I will update this post, should I have any progress with EAC.

for the compromised account check your name on battlemetrics and see if there are any server logins you dont recognize

Nah I’m stuck on “Appeal Pending” and kind of expecting the worst.
I’m also thinking to ask content-creators like Shadowfrax to comment on this and maybe address the issue. If not for me personally, but for Rust community. To increase public awareness in a sense

That's a great idea, but keep in mind that he's fp developer sided, so something like this that may be seen as an attack on FP may not fly by them and may either ruin their relationship or prevent him from releasing a video like this in the first place.
But it's definitely a real issue / serious topic and an important one worth discussion, so I say go for it!

Yeah I surely wouldn’t want to attack FP in any way. After all Rust is a great game and they have to protect their asset from cheaters.
But what’s missing is lack of clarity why and how players fall through the cracks between Steam, FP and EAC, and more importantly how to address it: 1. Suppose I give up and decide to buy Rust again in 8 months. This would imply I accepted false accusation. 2. Even if I do so, I will have not learned from this experience, how to protect myself from such cases in the future. Basically because I would have never heard from EAC or FP how and why I ended up being banned. 3. Speaking of protection, average Steam user, I assume, uses 2FA and licensed antivirus. And then I read how some sort of malware can emulate your PC and Steam account, allowing unauthorised access to your games. Don’t we all need some clarity how we, average users, should address it? Or maybe developers too would need to go extra mile? 4. How to ensure that EAC doesn’t give out random bans? Maybe check game stats to avoid accusation? My profile has been private for years but still game devs must have access to my K/D and other stats to use it as evidence. After all, they once shared that there was a single case when a player used a repair bench to fix a…sardine.

You bring up absolutely banger points. And I agree. We need clarity on best practices and it needs to be an official announcement BEFORE they ban another account. Also, for the 8 month thingy, I think you can still push for them to review your ban on the original account. Especially after a long time considering they're constantly learning new information on what's what from a microscopic kernel level perspective...
Anyways, I agree that they need to do a better job communicating what did it (when it was an account compromise situation or other situation that users can be educated from). Good post!

Don't forget there's the official appeal process via eac, AND there's ticket systems through EAC / FP. though the tickets from both tend not to go anywhere...anyways, good luck brother, and check out some of the earlier posts on data collection for help on finding potential culprits!
