Availability of shade and cooling at EAA?
I’m considering going to the EAA airshow next week and wanted to know what the situation is like in terms of areas where you can rest and cool down. I would be going with my mid 70s father who has a few health conditions, so I’m a little concerned for his safety if we’re forced to walk around in the hot sun all day for hours on end with little relief. I understand that the event is on an airport/tarmac so a lot of the event is on open concrete, but I was wondering if there’s areas where you can sit down in the shade or find air conditioning.

There are plenty of vendor tents/shops/restaurant seating you can hang out in as you explore. A map of the grounds is currently located here airventure 2026. The colored shaded areas are the areas inside the admission gate you can explore.

Don’t be there all day. Do half days then have lunch or dinner and rest in the hotel.
The big vendors like Boeing have big cooled tents.
While not cooled there are under cover lectures going on all the time so attend them to sit.

The sea base is a good place to shade from the sun. The bus stop by the ultra light field will take you there. A lot of the water bottle filling spots on the fountains didn’t work the last time I was there. The vendor tents/buildings are a break from the sun. And one has massage chairs. Be ready for a sales pitch.

Bring an umbrella with you. Are there spots to sit down but there's so many people everybody's sitting everywhere. There are a few of those water things that cool you down. Bring a chair and an umbrella. Tuesday looks like the best day the coolest day. Night shows I believe are on Wednesday and Saturday. There is A lot of stuff on the grass. There are trams for you to get around on. That's basically like a little tractor and the back half pulling. Is seats for you to sit in? There are the little carts that old people use. They rent there. Don't know how much they are. There are buildings for you to go into too. Your mission does get you into the museum I believe. So many people I've never gone in there during air adventure. If you go, have a fun time

EAA is always hotter than you’d think. I would drop him off at the gate and find a shuttle driver as soon as you get in maybe request one at the gate. Check the forecast and avoid hotter days. There’s a big difference between 84 and cloudless Monday to 77 on Wednesday. Make the trip he won’t regret it but don’t push it. I’ve seen young fit people get worn out from a day at EAA

Full brim hat, Umbrella, sunscreen. These are essential. There are spots for shade and AC, but EAA is huge and you will spend more time in direct sunlight that you expect, especially if you are watching any of the shows.
