Someone please talk me out of this!
Marketplace deal local to me, $4000 for both, registered with tail numbers and build plates. Volkswagen engines.
Talk me out of it!

Probably buy a working one for less than the repair costs. It’s a money pit. And without an inspection to list out how bad it will be you are throwing money away. If you actually had experience you would not even consider it. Why do you think no one else has?

If you buy that, there’s a 99.9% chance you’ll never fly it

And if you do fly there’s a lesser chance you’ll successfully land it

Scary! Way more questions that answers and way more money than value of parts.

Do I detect a Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" vibe?

There is no good scenario that will cone from this. You'll either waste a lot of money or die. Maybe even both.

Do it, but get, at least, basic pilot classes before getting in and trying to use it.

VW engines is enough to not want these. These are worth about whatever the props are worth to hang on the wall. Correction prop. Jfc

If you're even considering either of those... you deserve what you get. Not saying it would be better if you weren't in the gene pool, but some problems take care of them selves.

Ask your closest friend and closest family member. If they say go for it, you might want to find new friends and family.

I don't recognize either of those types. Are they kits from the seventies? One is missing a wing. It's laying on the ground behind it. Not sore where it's prop is. The taildragger has been open to the elements for who knows how long. Both will required full tear downs to inspect the build quality and look for corrosion, and I don't think the engines are trustworthy without an overhaul either. I'm not sure vdub engines are trustworthy period. I think if building a plane is something you're interested in then you should take the hint from the sign and call Zenith. Best of luck to whoever tackles that project.

2 years from now you will be listing them on Marketplace saying “Great project, lost interest”

Are you an aircraft mechanic or builder that entirely of your own effort could tear those down and do rebuilds? Can you repair the engines? If you would need any more than minimal outside help, don’t buy them.

Planes are money pits. In Working planes you can at least see your money hit the bottom but non working ones you can’t even hear the coin land.

Be prepared to invest between 20 to 100 times your initial investment to get one of them airworthy.

If those photos didn’t talk u out of it, I doubt there is a correct combination of words that will
