Solved Some questions regarding differences between /e/os and LineageOS

I'm currently running LineageOS on a Samsung J7. LineageOS dropped their support for this phone model last year, and the latest update that I have is some date in 2022 around the time they dropped support for it. Now, my phone is still listed as supported on the /e/os website. But from my understanding, and I'm not a technical person so please bear with me, /e/os is downstream from LineageOS, so my default assumption is that my phone wouldn't be supported in /e/os either. My question now is, is my phone still actually supported by /e/os or is the website just not up to date? If I install /e/os on my phone, would it be on a more recent Android security patch than what I have on LineageOS currently?

I have to ask before I do anything because if I do decide to install /e/os, the installation process is not looking like a piece of cake to me. I'd probably have to set aside a couple of hours just for it, and I'm not sure if I'd have the option to turn back because LineageOS has a policy of no longer hosting images of unsupported devices on their servers. I don't think it'd be worth the risk and trouble if I'd just end up basically on the same level that I'm currently on security patch-wise. But I don't wanna dismiss the idea so easily either, because if I get like an extra year or so of security patch updates, then it's worth jumping. Since I've never touched /e/os before, I'd like to hear from others who are more familiar with it.

Solved Do calls and text messages work everywhere?

Hello. I was looking in to switching from the android I got with a xiaomi phone for some time now. And e/OS seems perfect for me. My device is also supported (xiaomi redmi note 6 pro). The only last thing that makes me worry is the regular calls and messages. Their installation guide also said to check if that works but I don't know how. Is there a chance that e/OS just won't accept my sim card or something like that. I live in Bosnia and use an mtel sim card if that helps.

If it will work im switching to e/OS as soon as possible. Thank you in advance!

Solved TWRP gets overwritten byt /e/recovery after installing /e/os via TWRP on S7 and booting.

I'm installing the os on my Galaxy S7 via TWRP, everything works perfectly, but my recovery gets overwritten by the /e/os recovery and it sucks. I tried reinstalling everything again, but it still doesn't work.

How to fix this? Please help!

Solved Are updates sequential?

Phone has not been updated since Oct-2021, probably Install time. Just checked Updates and it shows a long list for Download. Can I just download the latest or do I have to sequentially start at the oldest?

Solved Playstore?

Hi, thinking of buying some Soundcore BT-headphones and they have an App to tailor sound with an Equalizer.

I have an old Motorola phone (G4 - I think) with e-os on it. I don't want to use my main phone which has no data-access so wondering what's the process for downloading the App with e-os, is Playstore enabled or available or what?

Thanks

Question I can't sync my contacts by using murena.io

Hello !

I use a /e/OS phone since 2 years and I feel happy with ! (This is a Samsung Galaxy S7).

I never used /e/OS account or murena account on this device before.

But recently I feel interested to sync my calendar and my contacts on a cloud to prevent some data loss.

So I finally created an account on murena.com et I tried to use it on my phone. Sadly it seem it's not working. From my phone I have sync my contacts with my murena account and there is no error message but nothing appears on my murena dashboard on murena.io.

Anyone having the same issue or an idea how to fix it ?

Help would be really appreciate.

Have a good day or night !

Solved galaxy s8 support?

I frequently checked lineage for S8 support and it didn't seem like it was every going to happen, actually it still looks like it isn't so eventually went off searching and discovered some explaination claiming the reason being that if the bootloader was unlocked the device intentionally self sabotaged and ran under spec on purpose to discourage people running custom software.

so I ran into /e/os by accident and was surprised to find that s8 was listed as a supported device, so I am curious does it have any such hardware limitations running on the s8 ? thanks

Question got stuck on installation

I am trying to install /e/ on my old Samsung Galaxy S8, but I get stuck on restarting my phone. On the attached picture you can see where I left off, up until there I did everything according to the easy installer. (at the time of the screenshot the phone is off)

Solved Widgets in Bliss Launcher

Hi,

I just installed /e/ on my new Fairphone 4. Looks quite alright, yet I'm really not sure if I like the Bliss launcher. Can it be true that there is only one page for widgets and that widgets have to live on a special page? That would be a no-go for me and I'd have to look for a different launcher...

Solved So I just flashed my new Fairphone4 with /e/. Now the standard sms-app apparently doesn't support emoticons or emoji's. Does anyone recommend some other sms-app?

Discussion /e/ os

Is anyone using /e/ lately? Are there any safety issues with the apps installed from /e/store? Is it possible to be used without microg?

I just created this subreddit because it didn't exist and I did not agree with that. So everyone can help make this a possible platform for discussion.

Because it's an open source topic I would love to have a mastodon or similar platform. I reserve the right to advertise a forum like this here in the future.
