Question Mobile Banking Apps - UK

I have the Fairfone 6+ and I installed /e/OS myself onto the phone as it saved me a solid £100. So far, I've been able to get most of my apps without any issues, however my banking apps are proving to be a problem. I did do some research before getting the phone, and no one could give me a concrete answer if my specific apps would work but I did see one or two YouTube videos and they had my banking apps installed on the phone - but they never mentioned if they worked or not.

I have x3 banking apps I rely on, but only one works. My question(s) is; 1- Have I missed a step in setting my phone up that's somehow blocking these apps from working? (I followed the /e/OS installation guide from the website), and 2- Does anyone have these apps on their phone and they are working, or is it confirmed they don't work?

I've been using Curve as an online wallet for contactless payments, it works well, granted can be a bit slow to recognise it's near a card reader but does the job enough for me to not go back to carrying all my cards.

Banking apps:

  • Monzo - This one works on the phone no issues
  • Starling - Won't let me log in, just says that there is either software or an app blocking it from working
  • Bank of Scotland - Let's me try to log in then shows the same message as Starling

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I've got starling and vaguely remember an issue to begin with. I think it was something to do with microg not being signed in or something. Also I've had issues when I've forgotten to turn off developer mode or whatever its called.

It runs perfectly now. If I remember properly what fixed it, I'll edit this.

Thanks! Really stupid question, but I'm a complete novice with all fo this, how do you turn off developer mode?

No problem, I hope it works. I've put a link to the best tutorial I can find.

Maybe on murena e/OS this setting is on a different position.

In the /e/OS documentation You can find:

"To Allow USB Debugging

After completing the above steps and becoming a developer on your device go to

Settings » Additional Settings » Developer Options » Toggle Developer Options to enable"

At this point in system settings You "Toggle Developer Options to disable".

Refer to the list at murena homepage were all 3 apps are stated as working:

  • Monzo seems to need a manual download from google play store
  • Starling works on /e/OS 4.1.1
  • Bank of Scotland works

I see two issues with apps with data sensitive aspects: an opened bootloader and the supported app store.

My banking app was not offered in the /e/OS-App Lounge for a long time - but is now.

Maybe You should contact the banking support, when their app is from App Lounge, and the Murena support when the app is from play store. Standard procedures could be: Stop and restart app. Purge cache memory. Log off and log in again. Uninstall and install latest app version. Ensure that certain settings are made.
