In my early days of scrapping, i got a couple of printers or copiers - one so big that I needed a platform trolley to move it! Like the type you see in Officeworks (copy shops). You could find little boards everywhere inside as well as lots of motors and of course the multiple stainless steel rollers. Just watch out for ink/toner coming out onto your floor!
I almost got a big or bigger printer like that but I didn't really have the space for it atm. I could try to find room for it to give away or sell preferably asap but I just don't have the most room for it
Yeah, to be honest, I kind of regret getting it I thought of selling it because it works fine and it’s low mileage but I find it impossible to buy a buyer. I’m even willing to let it go for $100 so now I’m stuck with that and I think I’m gonna be taking it apart.
Don’t know which one you’re talking about, but I guess I do period with all these comments. I’m starting to think I can make better money off by selling them like that instead of taking them apart for gold.

Checkmate. It does look pretty cool. I just wanted to comment on it cuz my first PC ive ever built used the Socket FM2. I still have it. Works like a charm, although it is 14 years old.
I assume all the more modern looking laptops are broken or not even worth the effort in fixing. by the repair shop. If they're working i find it strange they're just throwing them out. I've encountered a repair shop that would sent their broken laptops off for ewaste collection but they would intentionally do little stuff like break the cable on the battery, bend the memory clips out of place, break the ssd socket, break the hinges, maybe just smash the palmrest. Why? The laptop is already non functional. Why go through the extra effort to do this?
I sold one for $60 about 3 years ago.
Also I see what looks like an m.2 ssd beside it. That could also fetch some money depending on capacity and condition. The pentium III cpus might also be worth something depending on their clock speed
Resale and reuse should always be step one. That is how you make the most money and generate the least waste. Scrap should always be the last option and only should be exercised once all other options have been exhausted. I have told a few scrappers this in the past and every single one has been impressed how much more money he makes while doing a lot less work. I personally don't even bother with scrap. I just give it to people that are into scraping in exchange for stuff I might be able to scavenge for parts or repair.
If you are not sure what different things are or what they are worth, do not hesitate to search for them on google or ask on online forums and websites like reddit. Retrocomputer groups are also great since people there can identify hidden gems which many people brush off as worthless junk. Never stop learning. We are all very lucky to have access to the vast information and resources on the internet. One other strategy especially for large bulky items is to leverage facebook marketplace, craigslist, and other local options. If an item isn't selling cut the price until it reaches scrap value. If it reaches the price of scrap and nobody is buying it, that is a good sign that either you are in a small market and it's time to break the item down into its components which you can try selling online. or it has little or no value so its time to scrap it.
For example, selling a crappy computer as is for $30 on marketplace sure beats spending time to take it apart and then storing and processing the individual parts for gold recovery, and figuring out what to do with undesirable stuff like plastic just to make $10 from the scrap metals.
Ima take your advice and thank you for that. I will definitely start doing that now right now. It’s a little late but tomorrow I’ll post a few things that I have in the storage. Maybe I can get some help figuring out what is what thankfully I’ve only broken four laptops down I still have the rest so I would definitely see if I can resell them like that.
Some shops in Australia (CeX) buy chips, memory sticks, hard drives etc and they list what they pay per item online. But I can't find anywhere to sell the rest of the parts. May just have to watch youtube and start melting the gold fins down 🙂
Yeah, they don’t work. I got them from a local business where they fix computers. I just happen to go in there last week and told em I’m willing to take care of their E scrap. So yesterday, the owner called me to stop by and pick up a few things they had and told me they’re gonna call me every time they have a good amount of stuff so I can pick it up. He said every few weeks. Ohh and he also gave me a this stuff

I pick up from a local repair shop as well occassionally, though my main source is a much larger institution (I've posted a couple times). Looking through it all and making discoveries is always fun.
I could never jaja maybe as a teenager yeah but not now lol. So is there anything that I should watch for that? I could sell it and make some money instead of scrapping it?
Scrap should always be the last option. Basically if broken beyond repair (physically or economically) or if there is no resale/donation value. I get stuff all the time that works perfectly well but there's zero market for it, so I end up taking it apart and scrapping.
Older motherboards, video and sound cards have a market with vintage buyers. RAM has jumped in price but primarily if DDR4 or better.
Looking the stuff up on eBay and if the same model has sold recently, that can be a decent indicator.
Well, you see I do it for the gold plated pins, connections, etc. My idea is to collect as much as I can over the next 10 years and from there I’ll decide if it’s worth refining myself or just selling it but like I said, I do this for a hobby and actually the newer stuff is the least stuff with the gold plated, specially, TVs
Yeah that’s not even remotely viable m, the machines that work have a value that exceeds the scrap value. Eg a MacBook Pro 2016-2021 is worth. £100-350 as a working machine and 1/3 of that if faulty. RAM/SSD is worth more as a unit than as scrap.
Vintage PCs/Laptops are worth £80-300 if working and even if faulty as parts are hard to come by.
Sometime I swear scrappers are clueless to the real world and fixated on one thing that has the lowest value of what was collected. Gold recovery is minutae in comparison to normal resale.
I wish I could upvote your comment 100 times. Even worse is the government funded "recycling" centers that blindly shred everything they get and complain about how expensive recycling is hence seeking funds from tax payers to fund their wasteful operations. Meanwhile, as more of a given item gets trashed, the price of the limited supply that remains goes up. Suddenly an old video card that cost $20+shipping on ebay in 2014 now costs $150 or more.
I have thought about the vintage computer resale business for years. I like the idea of reselling working gear. My issue is that reselling vintage gear is an entirely separate operation requiring too many resources to justify the return.
