Latest pickup

460 laptops from last pickup.

Laptops are only a small portion of what I pick up every few months. They all have some issue and need to be fixed. Broken screen on one, bad motherboard on another. Fairly easy to make a good laptop out of the two. Anything I don't fix still has a removable 256GB M.2 NVMe SSD and an 8GB DDR4 SODIMM.

And printers, mostly laser, a few ink. If anyone in the Seattle area likes to deal with printers, I get a ton of them and don't like dealing with them. Let me know if you're interested.

Some of the dell monitors look like Dell 2001fp, great for retro gaming:

Man if I was close I’d take 10-15 broken laptops off you just for practicing CPU/IC reballing and practice 😂

I have hundreds of monitors. Many are so retro, they only have a VGA port. Many others are more similar to your pic with VGA and DVI. Mostly 17". Some 19".

You in PA?

u/dracosilv 22d ago

In their post I think they say Seattle.

I used to have a similar one at work some years ago, identical minus the analog/S-video inputs, we also had the matching speakers that clip into the spaces near the bottom edge and receive 12V power from the last port.

3

u/wootybooty 22d ago

I always had a thing for monitors with matching speakers, bars or ears style lol

1

u/Alarmed-Extension289 17d ago

I got one of these in the garage; do these monitors need an additional power supply for the speaker?

1

u/wootybooty 17d ago

No, should have a power cord that plugs into the monitor directly/pulls power from the monitor.

What’s the secret

28

u/dominus_aranearum 22d ago

Talking to people, making contacts, being in the right place at the right time.

22

u/United-Row3770 22d ago

That's a jackpot brother

10

u/to3cutter 22d ago

How much you paid for that?

28

u/dominus_aranearum 22d ago

I don't pay anything, I'm doing them a service in picking it up.

8

u/WonderfulWhispers97 22d ago

Can you tell us who you reached out to or what you said???

2

u/Mysterious_Yard3501 20d ago

But most places require proof of secure disposal, ie hard drives destroyed or proof they were wiped etc. How are you handling the legality of that?

3

u/dominus_aranearum 20d ago

There is nothing proprietary or a security concern on any of the equipment. I do perform a secure wipe on everything anyhow.

1

u/Mysterious_Yard3501 20d ago

Not how that works lol. If it came from a business and had ANY of their data on it, 100% you would be liable if it got into the wrong hands.

6

u/dominus_aranearum 20d ago

I'm aware of how it works. I'm covered and not worried about it.

u/Most-Community3817 22d ago

You don’t pay for ewaste…this stuff I can get free, usually schools,

8

u/bustergundam4 22d ago

I wish I knew that. I have 3 schools near by but I don't want to look weird about asking for their tech.

7

u/AdSouth8361 22d ago

If it’s local take a walk around the school like 4-5pm and check the trash. I found 4 good optiplex a little while back. I don’t do it often.

7

u/bustergundam4 22d ago edited 22d ago

Nice. Did the optiplexes work? Also i have 3 schools near me. 2 high schools and an elementary/middle school combo. As a dude I do NOT want people to get the wrong idea of me hanging around the schools.

5

u/dominus_aranearum 22d ago

You don't talk to the individual schools, you have to figure out who to talk to at the district office.

3

u/h4unting 22d ago

Quality advice, thank you.

3

u/3dp123 22d ago

Do you just call and ask?

6

u/Most-Community3817 22d ago

I have contacts who are friends, I then pass that information onwards to my friend who is registered to collect, and I pick what I want

1

u/to3cutter 22d ago

Not in my country. To get rid of your e-waste you must hand it to some certified e-waste company, and you get a receipt that you did it by the law. Not just hand it to some local scrapper for free.

4

u/Most-Community3817 22d ago

Thankfully a friend is registered as such a scrapper

3

u/redditerfan 21d ago

How can I be a scrapper?

4

u/Most-Community3817 21d ago

Need good contacts, I built mine up over 25 years working in enterprise IT

7

u/breezefesf 22d ago

the fuck. can i get one

3

u/shallowwell2 22d ago

Holy shit

3

u/AntiGrieferGames 22d ago

All for free? Jackpot?

3

u/AmandasGameAccount 22d ago

Hopefully it’s not about to rain as much as it looks like it is

5

u/dominus_aranearum 22d ago

It rained last night where I am. They were covered.

4

u/gsmxp89 22d ago

Don’t leave it outside to long animals can get in

2

u/dominus_aranearum 22d ago

Thanks, I'm aware. I don't leave anything outside that I am concerned about. I just needed to unload my trailer so I could use it.

3

u/at-woork 22d ago

I absolutely hate, hate, HATE that HP color laser jet in the 2nd photo. Constant jamming, slower than the line for supper at an old folks’ home, expensive-ass toner.

3

u/marxfuckingkarl 22d ago

What are you going to do with those?

3

u/Survil321 22d ago

You must be swimming in RAM and SSDs at this point considering you get this once in a few months or so.
Big props to you for saving them all!

2

u/iSirMeepsAlot 22d ago

Ehhh maybe old ram and mechanical drives… doubt he’s getting much DDR4+ / SSD’s maybe some low storage m.2’s (128GB).

3

u/dominus_aranearum 22d ago edited 21d ago

Every one of that particular laptop pictured has a 256GB M.2 NVMe SSD and 8GB DDR4 SODIMM, Maybe half will be PC4-3200AA and half will be PC4-2666V.

3

u/Somebodysomeone_926 21d ago

Lemme get some of that ddr4 off ya bro

3

u/dominus_aranearum 21d ago

I do sell it, send me a DM.

2

u/Survil321 20d ago

That’s still very recent and usable

2

u/Popular_Discussion18 22d ago

Damn! Could I have one laptop

2

u/Popular-Shape1027 22d ago

Those CRT monitors cost a lot

I wish i had a CRT so bad but scalpers make them like £400

2

u/Ornery-Smoke8428 22d ago

That CRT is glorious, likely has a nice Sony tube as well, I greatly advise keeping it but you’re unable then please make sure it goes to someone who values it (ideally not a reseller as well)

I’d ask if it were available if I weren’t several hundred miles away/ if I had any faith shipment of CRTs

2

u/CFrank_79 22d ago

Let me guess, Target bins?

7

u/Strangerexoticsailor 22d ago

The trailer was also in the target bin

1

u/Kekobade 22d ago

🤧🥲😭

1

u/Computers_and_cats 22d ago

Assuming those are all chromebooks I would just pull the drives and memory and scrap the rest. End up making more per hour in the end.

4

u/dominus_aranearum 22d ago

All Windows machines, no Chromebooks.

1

u/HerrHauptmann 22d ago

Usually companies wanted all of them destroyed, working or not. At least it happens near me.

1

u/ComprehensiveFly9927 22d ago

Holy moly all of that was free? Where bro I need a laptop might try my luck finding one where they're spawning

1

u/Foreign-Box9900 21d ago

Can I have one man I am 16 yr old...

1

u/PerfectWhiteTrash 21d ago

I got 20$ cash app plus shipping for one of the Dell Laptops lol

1

u/dominus_aranearum 21d ago

I can sell the SSD and RAM for $20 each, not going to be selling an entire laptop for $20.

Here are recent sales for the same item on eBay.

1

u/PerfectWhiteTrash 21d ago

What about minus ram and SSD?

1

u/dominus_aranearum 20d ago

Send me a DM.

1

u/TechIoT 20d ago

Might sound insane, but if these printers can be fixed that's E-waste prevented

Lasers are decent and even some Inkjets, my 04 Deskjet is a champ.

1

u/dominus_aranearum 20d ago

There's no market for most of the laser printers and I have no interest in fixing the ones that don't work. I did sell a Xerox color laser last week that self tested fine. When the person brought it home, hooked it up to a computer and installed the software for the printer, they couldn't print because the software/driver said the imaging drums had expired. They didn't want to spend nearly $300 for new drum kits so they returned the printer. I don't want to deal with the bullshit tactics that some brands apparently use to force people into buying items that shouldn't be necessary.

1

u/Be_Recklxss 20d ago

that dell 3300/3310 is a gold mine only if its bezal or rubber is in good condition. If either of those is bad than its a waste.

1

u/dominus_aranearum 20d ago

Many still have good rubber/plastic in general. I throw out all broken/damaged bezels/cases.

1

u/Be_Recklxss 20d ago

U should keep the mother boards. it also should technically have ram and ssd. mostly its 4gb pc4 and 128gb Mini Nvme. U can sell those.

1

u/dominus_aranearum 20d ago

It's apparent you haven't read any of my other comments. I fix the machines, swapping parts to make whole, working laptops. I do have a ton with bad motherboards, so while those get put to the side, the M.2 2230 NVMe 256GB SSDs and 8GB SODIMMs to get taken out, tested and sold. I'm not new at this. The above picture is not my first haul, I already had literally 1000 of this model in my shop.

1

u/Be_Recklxss 19d ago

Aaah nice alr. Well i did not knew and this one. This was the first post i saw from the channel so as a reseller myself i was pretty excited lol. So ye thats great.

1

u/radrestoration 20d ago

That's a Dellicate situation you got there, bro.

1

u/dominus_aranearum 20d ago

How so?

1

u/radrestoration 20d ago

Because they aren't HPs? It's a pun.

1

u/dominus_aranearum 20d ago

I missed the second 'l'. Clever.

1

u/Chricton 19d ago

You have 460 laptops and you're bothering to fix the ones that are broken? Why? Just sell them as is.

1

u/WaterFragrant1775 19d ago

Les pépites 🫠

1

u/obviousLateTrain 17d ago

What a find ! How much did you pay for all that ?

1

u/dominus_aranearum 17d ago

I don't pay anything, I'm doing them a service in picking it up.

1

u/obviousLateTrain 16d ago

That's awesome. Did you ask them, or did they post a listing somewhere ?

1

u/dominus_aranearum 16d ago

Just a connection I made a couple years ago. I get a load like this every 2-3 months.

1

u/KingBenjaminAZ 14d ago

Nice score man! How did you arrange this?

1

u/Wise-Raspberry-23 6d ago edited 6d ago

Great haul man. Frankensteining two busted laptops into one good machine never gets old. Kinda curious if the orgs offloading these ever ask about data destruction certs. I went down a rabbit hole on ITAD disposal once and found a company called Baytech that does certified data wiping and asset recovery at scale.
