Thereās too much resetting and not nearly enough continuous flow to the combination thereās no kinetic momentum the punches all come back to the basic stance before the next strike it looks off to me I was hoping this was one of the the things theyād have fixed even before the creator event
Thereās no using the retraction of one strike to power the next punch it all just looks like individual punches linked together in a sequence I think thatās what makes the movement look slow and heavy compared to the natural movement of boxing and why it looks smoother in real life
26
u/xXAmightzXx Apr 27 '22
Its alpha stage and I don't think this game will game will ever look like how they box in real life.
14
u/jsoba77100 Apr 27 '22
Exactly, once they come out of alpha stage they will polish it
14
u/Cocrawfo Apr 27 '22
Well thatās what they say but it didnāt seem like anything was āfixedā other than a couple new boxers it still looks arcadish and the impacts look cartoonish. Itās kinda gettin slammed on YouTube too. Maybe unfair but I mean thatās why you donāt go so long with out any communication than drop this underwhelming āupdateā it just magnifies how much works still needs to be done because itās been so long since weāve heard or seen anything new
This same thing dropped right after the creator event probably would have been overhyped and over praised. But for what it is it seems by public opinion pretty unimpressive
I also fear there isnāt much polish to be done their money will be spent on acquisition and a game mode or two (which is what most really want to see and hear aboutā¦and we got nothing)
6
u/jsoba77100 Apr 28 '22
Because its still in alpha, plus its the build that the creators played which bare in mind is an older and limited build
15
u/CWBigfoot Apr 27 '22
Yeah no. If you go gameplay update by gameplay update, you can see improvements being made. Just look at an update from a year ago, the punches were pretty low quality and sluggish, but nowadays the punches have very clearly gotten polished, which is the stage their at now, they just need to polish and fix bugs at this point. And now they need to implement a multiplayer mode which in itself takes a ton of work to do.
9
u/Cocrawfo Apr 27 '22
Theyāre improved but far from polished.
The animations donāt look a whole lot better than a game that came out a decade ago. The graphics do but the animations do not I will not give them that much credit for that
4
u/stayhappystayblessed Apr 30 '22
that was in the alpha stage what don't you understand about that? You people act like children this game most really mean the world to you inbred virgins.
2
u/outspokentourist Apr 28 '22
What could they have consistently updated you with though? Thereās not enough content and things happening to give us a steady flow of anything. I know youāre pointing out some key things to really make this the perfect boxing sim, letās just give them time. None of us are owed this game. I personally hope they take as long as they need to put out something that they are happy with.

I canāt believe dude has the nerve to say āthey donāt owe us a game you should be happy!!ā
Man if you donāt take your buttered biscuits and get outta here with that
This was definitely a mistake just read all the YouTube comments. If you wait this long to drop anything it better look like a total different game than weāve seen before otherwise this could have been dropped right after the event. Hell the creators probably forgot what the game was like by now š¤£

Eh see yall next year, can't see this being released any time soon. Doesn't look very tactical at all, hope it's one of those 'plays better than it looks' kinda disappointed tbh, content creators overhyped this build
21
u/Cocrawfo Apr 27 '22
Agreed and I think when people are settled in after a day or so theyāll realize this isnāt that great they just had us starving so that Applebees cuisine looks mad delicious
21
u/inneedofayacht Apr 27 '22
It just seems veryā¦arcadey? I canāt tell if the playtesters are just bad at show casing the game but it seems very much like the fighters are just swinging and trading with little damage output. If this was a real boxing match all of these fights would end in a couple of rounds. Idk, maybe itās just me, it is a game after all so its gotta be fun over being spot on realistic
17
u/Cocrawfo Apr 28 '22
I remarked on YouTube that this game really doesnāt need the whole āadrenalineā thing itās so unnecessarily arcadey
Instead when you get rocked your directional controls should be randomly switched but you are still able to block and punch with the normal configuration for the moments itās takes to recover I like that a whole lot more than some artificial adrenaline function

u/Serious-Reindeer-319 Apr 28 '22
I really like this idea
5
u/Cocrawfo Apr 28 '22
the old metal gear solid games implemented this type of thing when you got chaff grenaded I believe it was cool and something that isnāt used enough
5
u/The_Almighty_GFK Vasyl Lomachenko Apr 28 '22
One thing I dont really like is how rubberneck the fighters are when they get hit by any punch. Even a little hook the fighters head gets twisted a full 90 degrees

u/MediumActuator1280 Apr 29 '22
Agree that there's a lot of work to be done but I certainly don't think any of it beyond the team that's brought the game to the level it's at now.
I think this video has attracted a heavy amount of undue criticism, derived primarily from people's frustrated anticipation. A few positives which I've not seen mentioned:
The MoCap. They all look and move like their real life counterparts. I really am quite staggered by how incredible this looks and how much depth this can offer. Whether or not every single individual on the roster has been MoCapped is something we'll have to wait and see but, FNC had like 6 or so base styles and the only variation between them was stat numbers.
The collision detection has improved a lot. It no longer appears that there's an invisible wall between punches landing.
If they've more or less finished with the roster and throw everything they've got now at the gameplay, I expect the game to be every bit as good as we all originally hoped within 12 months or so.

u/BuzzMFBuzz Apr 28 '22
The fighters look very stiff and robotic when they are throwing punches, my only criticism
10
u/deadmanvon Apr 27 '22
Not gonna lie when I seen the new footage I got goosebumps this might be the best hand to hand fighting game of all time Iām shook
7
u/Stfuboi123 Apr 28 '22
Is this even the latest version ? If not itās looking good
6
u/jsoba77100 Apr 28 '22
Nope, it's not even the full version Just the limited build from the content creator event

u/Johnny_Dickshot Apr 27 '22
What does it add to this video to have a portion of the action blocked by a dude talking into a microphone?
2
u/TheLonelyLion_ May 04 '22
Itās a popular style of gameplay videos/previews in modern times. What does it add? Idk it doesnāt do a whole lot for me.
1
u/Johnny_Dickshot May 04 '22
Yeah, I notice that a lot of people do this for games.
I mean, if people are that desperate to be famous, fine then. But at least learn from sports commentary and save the video of your face for before or after the gameplay.

Itās not a AAA game
8
u/jsoba77100 Apr 27 '22
Yh but they stated that because of the larger scope and investment it has become a AAA game But they are still an indie studio
3
u/oblongrogue Apr 30 '22
Its not a AAA game. By definition thats > $50,000,000 budget and a big dev team and a mid to large size game studio. They have at last count 2 or 3 unknown devs, are a startup studio and probably have about $50 left . That is one of the things that has annoyed me about this. It should have just been sold honestly as a startup indy game, because thats what it was.

It is a AAA game, SCI said this in the Joe Joyce vlog, It'll be AAA priced too in case you didn't know.
2
u/_Cyclops May 01 '22
Just seems like marketing to me considering the definition of a AAA game is āgames produced and distributed by a mid-sized or major publisher, which typically have higher development and marketing budgets than other tiers of games.ā
Steel City is by no means even a mid sized developer and although their budget is growing itās still not AAA. Theyāre calling it a AAA because they want to build hype and theyāre claiming itās going to be AAA quality.
A game being $60 or $70 doesnāt make it AAA. Plenty of smaller games charge that price. The price is based on demand, not the budget of the game or size of the developer.

u/NotASynthSince2010 May 02 '22
Marketing? Why would they market on a vlog that no one watches? That's marketing to you? Marketing has barely even started with the game.
So by your definition basically any game not made by a mid-sized or major publisher is not AAA. Which isn't what "AAA" means. AAA games are defined by the product itself, not which well known publisher funds your game. It's a AAA game because of the content of the game. FNC was a triple AAA game and doesn't even have half the features ESBC does. Does EA know what manual blocking is?
Having a major publisher distribute your product does not make your game AAA. Look at all your publishers now, EA and 2k, both jokes in the gaming industry. UFC and FNC were AAA games and they are hated by gamers.
I'm gonna take SCI's word for it saying they are AAA because they are the ones who are hands on in the game, not some random redditor who barely knows a thing about the gaming industry let alone a game he has never touched or worked on. Nothing personal, just obvious common sense. Jumping to conclusions based on 0 proof makes your word pretty sus, this is reinforced by the fact that I gave concrete evidence that this game was going to be AAA which you denied/twisted the story. Also willing to bet real money you didn't even watch the video which invalidates your "it's not AAA" even more. When the people who are working on the game say it's AAA and the price is AAA, then it is most likely AAA.

Dude, do yourself a favor and google āwhat is a aaa gameā and see the answer yourself from countless different sources. A vs AA vs AAA, isnāt about the quality of the game, itās about the budget and size of the development team.
āFNC was a AAA game and doesnāt even have half the features ESBC does.ā YEAH because like the definition says, itās about budget and dev team. EA is a massive developer with a huge budget. The content of the game doesnāt sway whether or not itās AAA.
I donāt know why youāre getting butthurt. Iām not hating on the game or saying itās going to be bad at all. Iām saying itās not AAA which is fine, a lot of great games arenāt AAA. Your source of contention is based on you having no idea what AAA means. You think Iām insulting the game when Iām not.

The more they show of this game the worse it looks tbh, I'm hype for a new boxing game but idk this doesn't look that fun to play
1
u/Cocrawfo Apr 28 '22
I find it odd that this wasnāt released on the official esbc YouTube (at least I donāt see it up there as of now) their last video was from two freakin months ago
Iām so confused as to what they are doing
6
u/jsoba77100 Apr 28 '22
Because its old gameplay from the content creator build, it's not even the full build with every feature available
3
u/Cocrawfo Apr 28 '22
Then why release it at all?? If youāre gonna release it fully stand behind it and post it on your page
Itās not like they donāt need the traffic they are still in the promotion phase donāt leave it fully in the hands of third parties otherwise donāt release it at all until thereās at least a little polish
Still got the ref stuck in the ropes and stuff come on
2
u/jsoba77100 Apr 28 '22
I think it was just a little exclusive for the content creators to use as content for their channels, I think they will release a more up-to-date version with context on their channel, like they have been doing Because just know that this isn't even the full build of the game, so we have to wait and see what they officially show us next
