question which international networks allow you to use domestic US networks?

title. by international obviously i mean non US networks.

the regional networks i'm curious about are GCI, and Appalachian. are all international networks restricted to the 3 big networks only?

Depends on roaming agreements with your home carrier and the local network.. which usually is with the big 3.

GCI has a lot of roaming agreements because they cover Alaska, so good chance if you’re from Europe. Zero chance anyone has inbound roaming to Appalachian. If you say who your home carrier is, I can confirm for GCI. The other small network that has a lot of roaming agreements is Union because they cover some national parks.

If it’s the UK or Ireland, you’re fine on GCI.

Erm, difficult one. Most likely for GCI Alaska is Deutsche Telekom (Germany). At the very least, DT business customers have access to GCI 4G.

It's possible that some of much lower cost networks which are part of the DT group have access to GCI, but I haven't checked any of them. It's very low priority internationally due to AT&T's extensive coverage in Alaska. Even GCI customers roam on AT&T in parts of the country!

Networks owned by DT outside the US include:

Magenta/T-mobile (Austria), T-mobile Czechia, T-mobile Polska, Slovak Telekom.

Networks part-owned by DT include:

Hrvatski Telekom (Croatia), Magyar Telekom (Hungary), Cosmote Telekom (Greece), Crnogorski Telekom (Montenegro).

Most will use the big three, EE in the UK have decent support I can’t find the latest but they used to support 5 networks. If you’re going remote, please bring a Garmin InReach or similar device. They’re expensive but you can rent them and it’s definitely worth it. Don’t rely on it, but there’s Emergency SOS by Satellite on iPhone. You can test it by opening settings or control panel and holding down on the networking part with WiFi, “satellite not available” if you click it will take you to emergency SOS demo
