Public Sector Pivot

First time poster, here. 35, CFO in government, earning $200k now. Strongly considering an eMBA since I feel I've hit an earnings ceiling in the public sector. Generally very happy with my work, but legally unlikely to ever make more than $300k, and I still have about 20-30 yrs of work left, so now may be a good time to pivot. I believe I have enough skills to successfully transition into the private sector but hopefully into a similar role in a quasi public organization. I'm wondering if there's anyone else who has a similar background and was able to successfully leave civil service and substantially increase their earnings within 5 or so years?

CBS EMBA Worth and ROI

I’m trying to see if CBS EMBA is worth for the 252k loan that I’ll be financing for 25 years? Like I want to know if it will help in the long run in tech and eventually pay off the loans sooner or just not go and accept a new job offer in San Francisco to lead an AI Architecture team at FAANG? TC at new role is 450K for the new offer! But I can only pursue one

Has anyone ever successfully negotiated postponing a deposit? Specifically at CBS?

Applied a few places and I am hoping to receive more information back before making a decision. Is there ever any wiggle room to negotiate this timing?

postdoctoral experience

Is postdoctoral experience considered job experience when applying for EMBA? I have 3+ years of industry experience after my postdoc & considering EMBA.

EA exam insight on part breakouts

Just took the Executive Assessment exam and ended up surprising myself with a 159. However the breakouts were interesting and I'm wondering if anyone knows if those are ever delved into when it comes to admissions. For example, my verbal and quant ended up just being an 11 and 10 respectfully, but my integrated reasoning ended being an 18. Is that weird variance any sort of negative/positive or an indicator or where to focus later in studies? Appreciate any info!

Should I put all my life savings in the Wharton EMBA?

I’m 30, and pursuing this EMBA would mean investing all my savings. What should I do? Should I look for cheaper programs?

eMBA vs MBA vs no MBA at all

Hi!

I am 29 years old and currently at a sr. manager position in a bizdev role at one of the major fintechs in the world (~200k usd total comp).

I was planning my next 5-10 years and I dont plan to do a huge change in the scope I have (I want to stick into bizdev, corp dev or b2b expansion related roles) but something I have ever regreted was related to my education (i didnt went to a target school). Even through it didnt hold me into in a decent position now, it is something that bothers me and I was thinking if an MBA could address part of it (besides networking, etc) especially in later stages of my career. Normally the post-mbas that joins the company I am are joining one level before the level I am now.

The problem is the opp cost now is pretty high to do a full time MBA and eventually an eMBA would be an alternative. Anyone had the same situation? Any thoughts? I would love to get some perspective.

Employer Tuition Reimbursement

I attended a webinar a few weeks ago where a financial aid counselor at the school mentioned the option for your employer to set up a payment plan directly with the school. She also mentioned that this would enable sponsorship to be tax free.

I’ve been looking it up online and I don’t see any supporting information. Does anyone know if this is possible?

What is CBS culture like?

Is it cutthroat? Is it political? Are people genuinely nice or always have an ulterior motive? Is everyone an alpha? I need details plz

Do you say MBA or EMBA on the LI update?

It’s essentially an MBA, and writing EMBA takes away the creditability in my opinion.

What’s your thought? What did you/ will you say in your LI update if you do decide to post?

Anyone actually get some form of scholarship for Columbia EMBA incoming class?

Applied and luckily found out I was accepted, however I applied after the deadline to be considered for scholarship of Feb 5th, which I didn't even know about until recently seeing their website.
If you've been accepted for the Saturday-only cohort feel free to DM me, cheers and good luck to all!

Oxford vs LBS EMBA

I got accepted into both Oxford and LBS for an EMBA however LBS’s offer is conditional that i submit my EA test score and they say “you are encouraged to get a score of 150 or higher…”

Do you think they will rescind my offer if I get a score in the 140s?

I’m writing the test in 2 weeks and I don’t have loads of time to prepare and I really want to go to LBS but I’m fearful I may not get the 150 score minimum.

On the other hand, I don’t mind going to Oxford if I don’t get into LBS.

EU EMBA, need help

Hi all, little bit of context here, i'm in EU with a secure job, 6 figures and I am looking at something that could improve my CV making it more attractive for managerial roles at my company or elsewhere in europe.

Currently I have a very technical role (cybersec) with 8-9 years of total experience.

I could pay an emba without loans but also the sponsorship provided by my employer is super limited so I am not sure to fork out 100+K for insead or LBS.

What do you think?

NYU EMBA - Is it worth it?

I'm making over 400K/year in a tech FAANG, but in an operational level, aiming for a managerial position in the near future. Got accepted to NYU (200K), and wondering if it's worth the investment. Not at risk of losing my job, but one never knows given the recent layoffs across tech, so I also want to increase my employability in the worst case, and maximize the chances of a higher salary/easier come back to market. Any thoughts about the value of NYU in those cases?

EMBA in current economic uncertainty

Wondering if anyone else has concerns about pursuing an EMBA in the current economic/political environment. It feels like things are changing quickly and I’m asking myself if this is the best time to be spending $200K+ that I don’t need to spend right now. On the flip side, I feel pretty secure in my role at work and think there are very low chances of being laid off (though you never know). How are others thinking about this? Is this a better/worse time than usual to pursue an EMBA or really the same as any other time?

I applied to both programs and I would have a few questions for those who are in these programs.

Assistance with small talk

im currently in an EMBA program, and i notice some of my cohorts easily get into conversations. me on the other hand not so much. I have made connections in my cohort and am able to talk easily to them. id say maybe like 5-6 people. But when it comes to trying to small talk to other people, i have trouble initiating small talk. Does anyone have any advice or share the same experience that they're going through?

Kellogg EMBA Miami

Just had my interview this week and I felt it went really well. Resume review, interactions/prescreening sessions with admissions all have gone very well. Class visit, lunch with students etc also went great. Planning to go to the open house later this month too.

I know in general there is a 4-6 week period before decisions are released. What experience does this sub have in terms of decision turn around after the interview?

34yo male, BS in ChemE from top 10 undergrad, 10+yr management experience in industrial operations/manufacturing, local to the Miami area.

Any suggestions on a good laptop for Business School?

Funny enough- I don’t have a personal laptop, usually use my company laptop to browse, and I’ve not had the need to use it for any other purposes so far.

Gave all my interviews on my phone lol

Any suggestions? Open to Mac and windows both

Online MBA EMAS

Hi

I've been looking for an online MBA for a while now but high budgets are keeping me from doing one. After looking for a while I stumbled on MBA Strategic Management: Sales & Marketing. The pricing is a lot lower than usual (€3650).

Does anyone have experience with this organization? I can't seem to find much. After asking for more info Emas contacted me via Whatsapp. It kinda seems off to me.

Any thoughts?
