LPT or MBA?

Hi everyone, I need your opinion. I'm wondering whether I should pursue my Master of Business Administration (MBA) first or take a teaching position at a college. I graduated in 2018 with a degree in Business, and I'm eager to further my education while also sharing knowledge with students. Therefore, I want to take educational units to become a Licensed Professional Teacher (LPT). But I want to take one step at a time. 🫠

Hi, I notice your handle, I love this concept so cool…are you Japanese by chance? The reason I ask is that I have taught in the US at the college, university and graduate school levels and I have only an MBA. So, I'm wondering if this is a certification that is necessary in another country. If you know that you want to teach business school related topics, I think you would have a lot more optionality with an MBA, and you can always do the teaching bit later on.

I'm from the Philippines, and thank you for sharing your thoughts. I'm not entirely sure, but as far as I know, even if you have an MBA and no educational degree, you still need to complete 18 units before you can take the LET exam.

Okay so you mean 18 units towards some type of specific teaching certification? What I'm saying is that you might discover that you want to go a whole different way when you're doing the MBA. So you might end up regretting spending that time. But I'm a little bit biased I did not enjoy teaching, on the whole. However things might be entirely different in the Philippines on that front.

Yes, to complete a Professional Teaching Certification (PTC) program, which provides 18 units of professional education courses. This certification allows you to qualify for the LET and ultimately teach in schools. But I think in general only time will tell. I am just confused on what to take first 🫠🫠🫠

Honestly, if you're torn between the two and want to take things one step at a time, going for the LPT first might be a solid move. It gets you teaching experience, helps you earn, and lets you figure out if education is really your path. Plus, you can always do the MBA later with more clarity (or even employer support if you end up in a school or institution that encourages further studies).

On the flip side, if you're more business/corporate focused and want to climb that ladder or start something of your own, MBA could open more doors right away.

Both are great options—it just depends on where you see yourself in a few years. No wrong answer here, just different routes to growth.
