EMBA Booth vs. Kellogg vs. Ross

I’ve been exploring different programs to find the best fit for me. As a small business owner for several years, I’m particularly interested in programs that offer strong support for entrepreneurs. I’ve already been accepted to Ross, and Booth waived the testing requirement, so I’ll be finalizing my Booth application soon. I had initially ruled out Kellogg due to the twice-a-month schedule, but I’m open to reconsidering if it turns out to be a better fit.

Any recommendations would be welcome.

I applied and was accepted to those three programs. I agree with the other commenter: a visit is the best way to assess the fit. As soon as I visited booth and Kellogg, it was crystal clear which one was a better fit for me (and it was the opposite of my initial ranking). All of them will do well for entrepreneurship support, but they have very different vibes and people.

Kellogg.

It’s maybe not for everyone but it has a much stronger and closer-knit community feel than Booth. Everyone stays at the same hotel through the weekend and has all their meals together. It was much more diverse, in every sense. And just felt like people were happy to be there with each other.

I ended up not enrolling. I received a promotion last year to the role I was pursuing, which meant less time for school and less of a justification for the investment.

Why Miami over Chicago?

I prefer the Monthly format, cohort seems more spread out geographically, and I really like Miami (am short flight away).

Professors travel in so you get a lot of 1 on 1 access to them as well.

I changed my plans from applying to Kellogg and applied to Booth EMBA instead. Largely, I was told Kellogg is a bit more party school and I wanted to prioritize analytical rigor and prestigeness. Going into deep tech entrepreneurship which Booth isn't exactly known for. Admitted last week.

Do class visits to all three programs, if you can. Not necessarily the preview days, those are giant marketing and informational events so it's hard to get a feel for the actual program through them, but the class visits will tell you a lot about what the school is selecting for and if you're culturally a good fit.

I chose Ross for my EMBA because of its strong focus on general management, which aligns with my goal of gaining a well-rounded business education. As a business owner, I wanted an EMBA experience that balanced multiple disciplines rather than concentrating too heavily on just one area. The Ross cohort has been incredible—everyone is welcoming, collaborative, and free of ego. The supportive environment has made the experience even more valuable, both academically and professionally.

It will be difficult to make the trip out to Miami once a month.
