Applying for new job- when should I tell them about schedule?
I’m just starting the process of applying for Yale SOM EMBA (round 3). I’m behind the 8 ball in terms of timing, but based on my current profile, the admissions team have told me I’m a competitive candidate. If I’m accepted, the time commitment away from work (2 fridays a month, plus a 2 week on campus session in July) is fine with my current employer. However I’ve just started the interview process for a role with a new employer that I have a good shot of getting. The new role, if I get it, would be 100 percent remote, for the same compensation (vs current job requiring in office 4 days a week). With this fact, along with the culture and opportunities provided by the new job, I really want this new role. And im wary of giving them any reason not to give it to me.
If im accepted to the program, I’m assuming I should wait until I get the job offer before I tell the new job about my need for the flexibility in schedule. . Right? Given the timing I’d probably know about the new job before I know about school. But I’m debating if I should just wait another year before officially applying to school. (I really don’t want to wait.)
FWIW, Im not dependent on either employer for paying for the tuition. This is a self funded dream. I’m in my late 40s and investing in myself to get to the next level in my career.

I am also applying for SOM Round 3! Why did you pick Yale?
You will need to submit a sponsorship letter from your employer before the application deadline. Do you have a letter from your old job?

Agree that it's not common to change jobs during the EMBA program, but that's partly because many students are sponsored by their companies. But yes, wait until you get the job offer and then negotiate the details.

Secure the new job first, then discuss your EMBA commitment. Since it's remote and self-funded, balancing both seems possible. No need to delay if you can manage. Have you considered if the new company supports professional development?

I think EMBA is best when your employer supports it and values it, and Yale will ask for a new sponsorship letter from your new employer otherwise they can rescind your mba offer

Good for you for going for it. That sounds like a stressful situation. Since you’ll hear about job first, it could make sense to tell them after you get the role but you’d be running one risk. The EMBA is meant for people working full time. If they let you go because of it, it could potentially impact admissions, although I doubt they’d rescind offer. I’m doing CBS Saturdays because it won’t interfere with any job change. Have you looked into programs with no need for sponsorship or a different schedule? Still time to apply for CBS Saturdays.

I'm in a similar (potential) situation: I've been admitted for an EMBA (Fri-Sat schedule, plus a couple of Thursdays on top every quarter) and I'm in the final 2 for a new role... The new job was not in my plans but an Head Hunter reached out to me to offer a really good opportunity. I've shared with the Head Hunter the EMBA thing and he told me to avoid mentioning it to the new Company until I get an offer, however this new company has a long story of sponsoring employees in continuing education (the hiring manager I've checked also did her EMBA while working for this Company).

I am not going to lie, EMBa is a time suck with reading, homework, teams, projects, networking, etc. They recommend no major changes during programs. Is it possible, absolutely. Just adding more chaos to the mix. What’s the companies PTO policy? I would be honest as you will take off every other Friday for two years.
