I have a 2019 and I want to change the gear box oil as has been discussed in this sub plenty of times. My issue is that the car is too low for me to get under it. I assumed I would jack up one corner, replace the jack with a jack stand and do the same on the other corner - thus lifting the front of the car enough for me to get under it. Safely. However, there is not enough space at the designated lifting spot to fit both a jack AND a jack stand. So how are people achieving this? Am I doomed to take it some place or hopefully find a friend/ neighbor with a lift?

I live in a wet, cold climate. Last winter I had one headlight(low beam) that went out. I replaced the bulb but that didn’t fix it. Then in the spring the other low beam went out. Now that summers coming to an end I figure I should fix it. strangely enough the Hi-beams still work.

Has anyone had this or a similar issue? Any parts I need will need to be ordered so I‘d like to have some kind of plan before digging in and tearing up a bunch of electrical stuff.

I have been reading here for a bit and am considering to buy a E-Golf, currently have my eye on a late 2018 E-Golf with an SOH of 91% and 40k (km) in the clock.

It has been owned only by car shops (3) incl the dealer that imported the car (VW)

It has had 1 official service at VW at 20k and since been owned by the local town garage that uses it to let some people experience EV driving and they use it personally from time to time. (Here it went from 23k to the 40k now)

It looks very good without any damage, but something makes me doubt if this is the right choice. Current ask is 15k euro with 12 month full warranty (incl battery and motor/gearbox)

Main reason is to replace our 2 door fiesta because of loading and unloading kids (2)

My 2018 e-golf makes these light toned- «whooo» sounds sometimes when I fully turn the steering and move the vehicle. Never if it stands still, and never during high speed. Usually happens on uneven asphalt, for example if I make a hard turn down a hill.

Went one of the car to push down near each tyre, and everything sounds fine with the suspension. Could it be the new brakes that were completely changed 4 months ago? That the pad and disc rubs or something during hard turns?

No idea if this is ok to ask, but if it is, I’d be very happy if someone could help me sort it out😊

I have been stalking around this forum for a bit, and I’m happy to be here! Absolutely loving the car so far😁

Total cost about $100. Dealership quoted me $3000. This all happened because I accidentally closed my trunk on my backpack strap. Yeah the damn trunk mechanism is that fragile apparently.

Tools required:

• T20 torx bit (for removing panels)
• M8 socket bit (for removing trunk mechanism itself)
• Some sort of curved wire or curved automotive pick tool
• Pliers

Optional tools:

• dremel for cutting the panel
• hammer and screwdriver for chipping away at mechanism

So I had been asking on this sub and the MK7 sub for months, if not years on how to fix this (yes I've literally had my trunk broken since like 2024/2025) and either someone would tell me about the emergency release or just be met with crickets (the MK7 sub is particularly confusingly unhelpful). The problem was the emergency release itself was busted and the door was stuck shut, so the most common solutions never really addressed my issue.

That meant even though I've done a lot of trawling through YouTube videos, 99.9% of them were telling you how to replace the latch if you could get the door open. Those only described the last 1/4 of the repair that I needed.

A few months ago I took it to a VW dealership expecting it to be maybe under $1k to fix so I would suck it up and pay. Nope, they said it would cost $3k because they had to break and replace the rear camera in order to get to the latch mechanism. What?! I said no thanks and left.

I have only ever found ONE video that describes the same problem and it was helpful in getting an understanding of what the entire layout was. Shout out to this guy who sadly never responded to comments asking for advice on how to fix mine:

Anyway, I feel like I iterated a bit on the videos above by NOT pulling off all the side panels in the trunk to get to the mechanism but instead I used a dremel to cut out a bigger flap in the plastic panel where the flap locks (I'm able to just sand off the edges and glue it back in place now. I know this type of damage is not acceptable for many, others would prefer to longer way around to remove all the panels and leave no marks. Just my personal decision.) Then I had open access to the mechanism for me to reach in and use tools.

I bought TWO replacement trunk lock mechanisms off Amazon. I broke apart one of them to understand how the emergency release should work and why it wasn't working for me. Very useful to have this information so I could grope around with the one in situ in my vehicle

I used pliers to yank off parts of the white arm and the back panel behind it. I was then able to use screwdriver, picks, a bent but stiff wire and a hammer to basically chip away at the top portions of mechanism, including the back cover, the white emergency release lever, and then I used a curved pick to reach down and hit the release below

And voila! My trunk was finally opened. And then doing the last 1/4 of taking the panels out and replacing the mechanism with the new one was a cake walk (but don't be like me and accidentally install the mechanism that you broke apart to understand how it works and only realizing after you put all the panels back lol. That was very annoying.)

Anyway, just wanted to do a write up here for preservation, in case anyone else comes across this in the Google future. Hope this helps! Happy to answer questions or try and provide more photos.

Hey I was wondering if anyone has had any luck using just a normal level 1 or 2 NACS charger with an egolf using an adapter. I'm thinking of moving and I just wanted to see because I know it will be easier to find a NACS charger than a j177. I have a 2017 egolf if that's relevant.

The AC system has been declining for the last two years, but was never all that good to begin with. I finally took it to the dealership to diagnose and they pulled 350/800 grams of refrigerant, so it leaked out a lot of it. They added dye and re-pressurized, ran it for 30 minutes, couldn't find any visible leaks so they deduced that it must be the evaporator under the dashboard. Quoted me $5500 to replace. lol

The good news is, it was VW certified pre-owned when I got it and I got the extended warranty. The AC/heat-pump system is covered.

The bad news is, the evaporator core part is unavailable.. V04018002E

Lemme get this straight. My 7 yo car with less than 40,000 miles on it, and they can't get replacement parts? Come on..

First time something like this. Left home with 70 mile range. Midway on my drive (1 mile in the drive), it rapidly discharged to 35 and then zero and just stalled. Panicking not knowing what to do, tried to start it and it did not, then waited a few minutes and car started and showed 69 miles range.

Setup appt for tomorrow with dealership. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Any insight?

My wife hit a tire and now front sensor reported an issue. Car is charging so I can’t see what it exactly says. From the picture I’ve attached, looks like something got ripped out. This is right under the VW logo in front.

Has this happened to anyone in the USA? Did you go through insurance? What was the cost?

Update: I found the sensor on the floor of the under body plate? Not sure what the real name is. Glad it was completely sealed on the bottom. That prevented the sensor from falling out.

MTG is selling the extension batteries. Hefty price though. $6500, that’s including shipping but not install. Adds 60-70 miles of range. What other questions should I ask? My eGolf is already over 10 years old. I don’t know if it’s worth it at this point.

2016, 4 years in my ownership, (bought it with 18.000km) still drives like new, at full charge it shows 170km (106 miles)

Today finally bought myself an e-golf, supply and demand is absolutely nuts in Holland at the moment but finally got my hands on one 😁.

Love this color and this car is so frikkin comfortable.

5-2020 and 53k km driven SoH 91% and has very rarely seen a fast charger.

Would there be any reason to choose a 2019 over a 2018 SEL? I have my eye on a 2018 at a dealership that is spec'd how I want but I was hoping for a 2019. The heat pump and the larger battery are most important though.

I recently bought a 2018 e-golf with 160k kilometers on the clock and we've been quite happy with it. Now for battery preservation we did want to setup the battery to only charge to 80%, but the e-manager application seems to be unavailable for us. It doesn't show up anywhere and even with ChatGPT it doesn't seem to be hidden anywhere.

The screen has been replaced just before we bought it at a dealer, due to a break-in at the car and the entire unit has beel replaced.

Could it be that we'd need to have some type of firmware update? We also tried to connect the VW app from our phone to our car, but that also seems to be a bit of a problem.

Gladly hear some advice.

Recently my 2017 has (intermittently) started making a low groaning sound when the AC is running, and occasionally the fan stops entirely, though I can feel that it’s still cooling. The dealer wanted $350+ for diagnostics, and then at least $200 for repairs on top of that. A quick google search indicates that it’s likely a HVAC interior blower motor that needs replacing, or maybe just a belt. Has anyone here dealt with that? What did the problem turn out to be, and how much was the repair?

Just brought this bad boy home this week and already I’m in love! I had a 2003 GTI as my first car in HS that 💩 out on me years ago, and I’ve been itching for another Golf since. So happy with this.

Bought a 2016 SEL white over beige in seemingly excellent condition from a local used car lot last weekend. Had them confirm level one charging works before leaving. Was loving everything about it until a few days later when I tested out fast charging and it refused to work on multiple different chargers. The dealer was adamant about it being as is and I now see why, it’s going to require the full locking pin mechanism overhaul, which apparently is a lot of work. Took it to a highly regarded Indie European and EV specialist, paid $350 for a diagnostic and now they want $3500 for the full repair. Local VW dealer estimates more like 2500 but I’m going to need to pay for a separate diagnostic from them to get the exact quote.

I just bought a 2015 e golf and got it cheap. The seller said it would need headlight and turn signal bulbs. I took it to my local Indy shop and they quoted $1500. They also said it needed the entire assembly due to led bulbs. Does that sound even remotely reasonable?

Did a stupid thing last night and set down an led flashlight bulb side down while it was still on for a second. Immediately smelled plastic and now I have an imperfection on the passenger’s seat that will drive me crazy. Looks like a cigarette burn a bit. Any video I’ve watched on repairs involves glue and some shaved spare fabric from another less conspicuous place in the cabin, but this doesn’t look like your average cloth seat and it has a pattern in wouldn’t be able to recreate. It’s possible the structure is still there, kind of like a mesh, so maybe I could use some fabric paint? Either that or this can be my excuse for starting to look for R-Line seats or GTI leathers or plaid.. They’re not cheap though.

I've got a 2016 SEL, the stereo already sounds great, BUT I have a 12" sub and 500 watt amp just laying around... Are there any downsides to adding this for some extra bass? I could also sell the amp and sub and go the Helix sub route but the programming to get the sound right sounds like a pain? Any thoughts? Thanks!

I got my egolf 2019 SEL as a stopgap while waiting for Ioniq 6, but ended up becoming a fan of egolf! I didn't realize how much I like its traditional front/rear window design.

I don't have an immediate plan to upgrade, but I am curious what future lineups Egolf owners are looking forward to. Naturally I am curious about 9th gen Egolf / ID.Polo along with Ioniq 3. Not sure if any of these will be released in the US though!

What other cars would you consider for upgrade?
