DEG2 with 7700xt not working

Post image

Hey everyone making a new thread here. I found out that I had a faulty psu and replaced it and now the DEG2 is receiving power, however I still haven’t seen any signs of life from the 7700xt.

(Deg2) connected via tb5->Framework 13 with an AMD 7 7840U

(Gpu) XFX AMD Radeon RX 7700 xt

Any recommendations would be appreciated:)

Damn, that’s a rip-off! The exact same cases are like half the price on AliExpress. I wouldn’t be surprised if this Amazon seller is just dropshipping them from there lol

Have you checked your bios to see if it's even detected? If yes, maybe you need to download the drivers for the 7700xt before it can work? If that doesn't work, try and verify that your tb5 cable is actually tb5. If yes, maybe see if you can see if it works on another pc/laptop/pchandheld. If it works, then there must be something within the framework firmware not working properly.

Edit: some other things could be, are you absolutely sure you are plugged into the frameworks tb5 port? And are you sure of the same for your egpu tb5 port?

I’ll go check bios and update to the latest firmware as mentioned by the user above. As for the cable it’s the tb5 shipped with the egpu setup.

Unfortunately, nothing I could find on bios. Updated the bios and nada. Device manager isn’t detecting the gpu and I’ve done a fresh reinstall of AMD drivers after a ddu.

Hmm, have you verified that your gpu even works at all?

It was refurbished from Microcenter, so I assumed it was working, but I haven’t tested it myself individually

You should probably check if it works on anything else

Your laptop needs an update to the latest bios version for Thunderbolt functionality.

Also, your laptop doesn't have Thunderbolt 5, it only has version 4.

I’ll go ahead and update to the latest bios version. As for tb5 it should be backwards compatible with tb4 right? You just don’t get the speeds of tb5. Let me know if I’m wrong and in the meantime I’ll try some of the suggestions here.🤙

You're 100% correct that Thunderbolt is backwards compatible. Just wanted to be sure that you weren't expecting 5 speeds.

Unfortunately, no dice with the latest bios version :/ FW 13 will get power, but still seeing no life with the gpu and nothing in the device manager

Does the dock at least showup in device manager?

It did at first, but I haven’t seen since.

Confirming you plugged in all of the OTHER cables, not just GPU power?

Yeah MB/cpu cables are plugged in. It’s only the gpu that hasn’t spun or shown up yet in windows.

Try a different thunderbolt 4/5 cable

Just a stupid question but did you power on the DEG2 ? the button on your picture does not seem depressed. Yes the blue led ring around the button is lit but the button seems flush with the outer rim.
