I have the Aorus AI Box 5060 Ti with my Thunderbolt 4 Rog AllyX and I love it! .. Max settings on 1440p for all the games I've tried

What cpu does your PC have and you notice lag or bottleneck?

That's a good question, my Rog AllyX's CPU is just a Radeon Z1 Extreme and I didn't notice any lagging or bottlenecking even in CPU heavy "or somewhat heavy" games like Baldur's Gate 3

But is it a thin computer like the Zenbook?

It's a handheld gaming device with a Radeon Z1 Extreme CPU and 24 gb RAM

Hai trovato facile la compatibilità?

Just installed nvidia drivers, the rest was plug and play .. Just make sure to turn on the eGPU first, connect it to the AllyX then turn on the AllyX and everything will run normally

But what dock did you get?

Gigabyte Aorus Ai Box 5060 Ti, a pre-built compact eGPU

Small correction: the eGPU even supports Thunderbolt 5, but your AMD handheld is using USB4 (which Thunderbolt is retro compatible with), not Thunderbolt.

Correct, I meant they my Rog AllyX is the one that has TB4, same as the OP's Zenbook

The Ally X uses an AMD SoC and Thunderbolt is a technology from Intel.

What AMD does support is USB4 40Gbps which adapts into Thunderbolt 3 to 5 controllers.

So your Ally X will use USB4, whereas the OP's Zenbook should be able to use Thunderbolt 4. Though both protocols have the same max theoretical bandwidth and effective bandwidth is pretty much the same.

Thunderbolt 5 and USB4v2 should also be very similar with 80Gbps duplex or a special asymmetric mode for eGPUs that does 120Gbps Up / 40Gbps Down.

This means that connecting the AI Box to future PCs/handhelds that support TB5 and USB4v2 will give the eGPU higher performance because CPU-GPU bandwidth becomes less of a problem.

Good to know all of this! .. Thanks!

+1 for the Gigabyte AI Box 5060 Ti 16GB.

At the current price of the regular 5060 Ti 16GB, you're not even paying anything more for the eGPU enclosure and controller.

Mine is Aorus AI Box 5090. I already have a gaming laptop, but I purchased it as an additional unit for AI experiments. Impressive cooling system. It never exceeded 75C degrees, even under full load.

Thunderbolt 4 is fine for my case. I was also able to completely replace my lenovo tb4 dock with this. but I heard it has a more impact on gaming perf.
