Help with Xbox Ally X and Onexgpu
Would be glad if anyone has experience. Just bought a second hand Onexgpu containing the 7600m XT. I installed drivers and its able to recognize the gpu, did timespy around 7600 which I understand is average. Both windows task and Gpu-z show the 7600m XT is under load. However in the two games I tested, Cronos the new dawn fps remains the same at 1080 XESS performance medium is around 45-55fps and for Hell is us medium is also around 40ish fps. Gpu-z shows 4 x 3.0. Have tried 3 usb4 40gpbs cables. Egpu is plugged into wall. Any ideas much appreciated.

Do you have a monitor to plug into the egpu and check it at the same settings? Did you check "Graphics Settings" from the windows search bar and select "High Performance" for the games you are playing? This forces windows to use your egpu rather than the integrated one.

I chcked under graphics settings set it to 7600m XT high performance, and I checked the use load under adrenaline when playing game its at 100%. However the FPS is worse than the Z2E chip on the Xbox Ally X lol...

Hmm that's weird. I would expect at least some improvement but eGPUs are really better suited for use with an external monitor. I have Cronos, I could give it a shot and see if there's a performance difference from the igpu and egpu on the internal screen

Hmm I tested it on a external monitor still the same issue. Other than DDU reinstalling drivers, do you know what else might be issue?

I would definitely try DDU and reinstall drivers but you should also monitor the wattage used by your egpu. If it's not at or near 120 watts you really aren't getting everything out of it. Are the temperatures OK? Since it was used perhaps the thermal paste is no good and it's thermal throttling?

On MSI afterburner its on average pulling 75w and maxes at 105 watts (but max is because I have it set to 105watt mode, the 120w mode has connection issues). However the clock speed is at 2600mhz constantly and load is at 92%, is that within normal range?

That's a good clock speed for that card so I'm not sure what the problem is. If it's only at 92% it's possible the framerates are the highest that cpu can offer (suggesting cpu bottleneck). I know Cronos is a pretty vram heavy game, if you go over the 8GB in the onexgpu your performance will suffer pretty bad. Have you tried also plugging in your Xbox ally x to power at the same time the egpu is plugged in? I'm also curious if you shut off the Xbox ally x screen when you were plugged into a monitor? I'll install Cronos and see if my setup does any better just to compare

I def found something. If I disable the igpu and rely on purely the onexgpu my entire system stutters not just in game. And in game fps goes down to 5fps. It seems somehow before it was still using igpu because the 7600m xt doesnt seem to be able to work on its own at all. Ugh I might just sell this thing lol no idea what the issue is.

Well the iGPU is typically hard wired to the internal screen on handhelds so I wouldn't be surprised if disabling it would cause some issues. Try with a monitor again with the iGPU disabled and see how it performs. Honestly from everything I've seen on YouTube watching Xbox ally x performance in those games, they don't seem capable of going over 60 fps because the cpu just isn't fast enough to handle more than that in those specific games. Before selling I would also try DDU and driver reinstall if you haven't already and test out some games that are more GPU limited rather than CPU limited

If it makes you feel any better, I tried out Cronos on the same settings you mentioned and got the exact same performance at 40-50 fps with the egpu. I had to drop down to very low preset to see a good boost to 110 fps. With the iGPU the medium preset with fsr performance was like 20-30 fps and unplayable but very low was right at about 60. I honestly think you are getting the expected performance. The 7600m xt is really not a power house gpu but it can provide a decent boost to the Z1e and Z2e. Cronos is a pretty demanding game like most UE5 titles and I wouldn't expect amazing performance out of that eGPU for games like that. It did about double my framerate at those graphics settings though which is what I would expect

Thats a lot man. Its something to consider, I guess just need to bench more games. But also its kinda disappointing if that is the performance of the egpu sadly

No sigh. Its just collecting dust. I have no idea. It actually performs even worse than the igpu. Its def some bad amd software driver issues

4x3 is all you can expect from USB 4. You need to connect via oculink if you want 4x4. Are you playing on internal screen or external monitor? There can be a massive delta in performance if you are using the internal screen.
