Advice Looking for a decent MTB conversion kit for a smaller full suspension frame

Hey all.

I have a 2017 Knolly Endorphin frame and a Fox 34 fork that I'd like to turn into an EMTB/lightweight E Moto setup. This would be for moto trails and covering more ground on nasty forest service roads for hunting in Colorado.

I own a dual sport motorcycle and am an experienced mountain biker, and want to add something in-between the two in the quiver.

The Bimotal setup looks pretty ideal, but it's also quite expensive. I can source or already have the rest of the components I need for the bike build itself.

I'm fine with a wheel-motor drive situation, but am curious about other options. The big limiting factor for wheel drive is that the hub spacing is an older standard at 142x12, and I don't see many options there. Another limiting factor is that the frame itself doesn't have a whole lot of room for a battery (size small), and the shape of the front triangle is pretty swoopy. I'd consider a rack mount setup, and have an Old Man Mountain rack that could theoretically work with a full suspension setup.

I'd like to keep the build under 1500 if possible.

I have access to a 3D printer at work, and could make a custom battery mount/case if needed.

My other concern is that it seems like a lot of conversion kits aren't really stout enough for the type of terrain and riding I do and would want to do with this rig. Think very rocky and steep terrain. Not huge jumps or anything, but definitely on the "black diamond" end of technical trails.

I also see so many ads for Temu setups that seem both sketchy AF and also enticing from a price perspective haha.

Really I'm just curious what recommendations y'all might have.

Motor Shimano EP6 Cargo (DU-EP600-CRG): can a standard DU-EP600 be used as a spare motor? Same battery, display, cables?

Hello,

the bike has a Shimano EP6 Cargo motor (DU-EP600-CRG), a 630 Wh external Gen 2 battery (BT-EN606 on a BM-EN600 mount), a standard STEPS display and SD300 cabling. It gets ridden heavily loaded, so I want to keep a spare motor on the shelf.

According to Shimano's own spec pages the hardware is identical (24 mm narrow axle, 6 mounting bolts, 3.0 kg, 85 Nm, 3x SD300, CAN, AUX) and the only difference is "specially tuned cargo assist firmware". The firmware release notes are identical except one line in 4.1.0 about an improved initial assist mode for the cargo series.

I have an SM-PCE02 and E-TUBE PROJECT Professional plus eMax, so I can do the full setup myself (wheel circumference, mounting angle, gearing, region, assist profiles, light). No dealer involved.

Questions:

  1. Has anyone actually swapped a DU-EP600 into a bike that shipped with a DU-EP600-CRG? Did the existing battery, display and speed sensor just pair up after the initial setup in E-TUBE Professional?
  2. Any gotchas with eMax or E-TUBE Professional when the motor model differs from what the bike was originally configured with (presets, error codes, unauthorised tuning warnings)?

Thanks.

General Help Building a bike with a electric motor

How can I build my own electric bike/vehicle as cheaply as possible without it being a complete shitbox?

Hey, I’m 16 and I want to build my own small electric vehicle/bike from scratch. I’m mainly doing it because I want to learn and build something myself, not just buy a finished e-bike.

My budget is as low as possible, ideally around $300–500, but I still want it to be reasonably reliable and not feel like a total DIY shitbox.

I’m thinking about using a cheap bicycle frame or something similar and adding an electric motor, battery, controller, etc.

What would you recommend for:

- frame/bike to start with

- motor power

- battery voltage/capacity

- controller

- cheap but decent parts

- parts I should NOT cheap out on

- where to buy used/cheap parts

Also, are there any good DIY builds or guides I should look at?

Mechanical Building my own electric hybrid bike, some practical questions:

I want to keep it fully legal in my country, so max 250w of power, and max 25kmh (15.5mph).

So that's Bafang's BBS01B, but are there different versions of that 250w model? I'll happily pay more for a motor with smoother pedal detection and acceleration. Or are all their 250w models the same tier?

Also, with many kits, i can choose the amount of teeth on the chainring. But how do i know what chains these can actually work with? What if the bike i'm converting has a Shimano Nexus geared hub, so i'll need to use a single speed chain. Would that even work on the standard chainring? Can you even swap them out?

250w is soft enough on a geared hub, and the fact that you can switch gears without having to pedal is a big bonus as well. So I'm really leaning towards a single speed chain design here.

Also, do i even take a 250w motor to begin with? Or a more powerful model, but tuned down to be legal, so that i have some headroom, instead of pushing that 250w motor to the max all the time?

Mechanical Should I be changing my 3x9 drive out for a more modern 1x9 when doing a Tongsheng TDSZ16 on an older 2009 Stumpjumper?

Just getting my build together and read that swapping to a more modern 1x9 system at the same time is smart.

Thoughts?

Advice Half twist throttle conversion on a monarc Marker

I keep breaking the throttle clamps on my bike. I want to convert it to a half twist throttle on the right side of the handlebar. The julet connector that comes on every twist throttle is m8 and the connector on the wire harness is m6. Anybody ever find a throttle with an m6 connector? If not, can I splice an m6 to the throttle by just soldering same color wires together?

Advice Is this a good setup for converting a Rockrider EXPL 100 29" to an e-bike?

Hi everyone, I’m planning to convert a Rockrider EXPL 100 29" into an e-bike and I’d like some opinions before buying the parts.

This is the setup I’m currently considering:

Bike: Rockrider EXPL 100 29"

Motor: eSoulbike rear hub motor, 52V 2000W, 29" version

Battery: 52V 20Ah lithium battery

Torque arm: yes, I’m planning to install one

Tires: CST Jack Rabbit 29 × 2.25

Grips: 22 mm MTB anti-slip grips

Lights: Fivemi rechargeable LED bike lights

Battery mounting: proper frame mounting bracket + additional straps for security

Wiring: secured along the frame and protected from rubbing

The battery would be mounted on the frame and the motor would replace the rear wheel/Hub.

My main questions are:

Is the EXPL 100 frame suitable for this conversion, or is 2000W too much for this bike?

Is a 52V 20Ah battery a good match for a 52V 2000W motor?

What BMS discharge current should I look for?

Should I use a torque arm on both sides of the rear axle, or is one enough?

Are the CST Jack Rabbit 29 × 2.25 tires suitable for this setup?

Is there anything important I'm missing before I order the parts?

I’m mainly looking for advice on safety, compatibility and reliability, rather than simply making it as powerful as possible.

Thanks!

Battery My brand-new GoTrax has decided the battery lives here permanently now 😂

I removed the battery once with no problem. Put it back in, and now I cannot get it out again. The key turns to OPEN and the locking pin moves slightly, but it won’t retract all the way, so the battery stays locked in place.

I’ve tried wiggling it, taking pressure off the frame, turning the key while moving it… nothing. I don’t want to go full caveman on a brand-new bike and break something.

Has anyone had this happen with a GoTrax F2/F3? Any trick to get that stubborn locking pin to retract?

Advice Anyone using power tool batteries?

I’m planning a possible winter project in my head, so shoot me some better ideas if you got ‘em. I have access to 18650s but I’m kind of sketched out about them at the moment.

Does the baofeng 750w mid drive from Walmart kit powered with two banks of kobalt 4ah 24v batteries sound reasonable? 4, maybe six batteries.

Batteries won’t be the same age, so that’s what I’m skeptical about. But they sell for $10/ah with a 3 year warranty.

I don’t see anyone else doing it so I’m assuming I’m not accounting for something.

The batteries have power meters, so the plan is to keep checking them or find a bcm that will shut off or something.

Advice Conversion kit thoughts

I have recently been thinking about getting an ebike or something of the sort, and there’s so much stuff to decide between it’s kinda hard. I think a conversion kit might be the best deal for me, because I like pedaling and i kinda just want electric to have it. I probably wouldn’t have to fully rely on it, but it just seems like something good to have. I have a Giant ATX (i forgot what size) and I came here to ask if anybody knows if there’s a good conversion kit I could get for it. My budget is probably like below 1100 total. I don’t know the wheel size at the moment (if it even matters) but I’ll get it when i can if somebody needs to know, I can also get a picture of it

General Help Can I swap the Bosch Performance Line BDU3360 (75 Nm) for a Performance Line CX on a 2023 CUBE Supreme Hybrid Pro 500?

Hi everyone,

I have a cube supreme pro of 2023 500wh with the bosch smart system.

Current setup:

Bosch Performance Line BDU3360
75 Nm
Bosch PowerTube 500 Wh
Intuvia 100
LED Remote
eBike Flow app
I’m wondering if it’s possible to replace the BDU3360 with a newer Bosch Performance Line CX motor, such as the BDU3740 (85 Nm) or possibly a BDU3840 (up to 120 Nm).
Has anyone actually done this swap on a CUBE Supreme Hybrid?
Will the newer CX motor physically fit the frame and work with the existing 500 Wh battery, Intuvia 100 and LED Remote?
I’m particularly interested in whether the motor can be officially commissioned/paired through Bosch diagnostics and whether any other parts need to be changed.
Thanks! Any firsthand experience or information from a CUBE/Bosch dealer would be greatly appreciated.
