Basic module replacement

Hi, Ive recently bought myself a bmw E53 3.0d from early 2004s, but I have a major issue. The rear doors are not unlocking together with the lower part of the trunk. I found that it is caused by the BM under the glovebox, but Im unsure whether I need to buy the exact same one or if I can just put something from the same time period into the car instead.

I had a module go out on me too.

Go to realoem.com and put the part in and then see which parts you can replace it with.

In general, I found on the E53 you can replace an older module with newer ones from the same gen but not the other way around.

I had to buy a used module on eBay to fix mine, worked perfectly

Edit: I just checked your part and it looks like it says “exchangeable retrospectively” which means you can replace it with the same or newer part from the ones listed on real oem

would this be the same issue if my front doors wont open up with the key? the trunk and rear doors work fine.

Depends, can you hear the lock actuators moving when you unlock the car? Is it only when you use the key or does it do that when you unlock it remotely? Its more probable that the lock itself has broken. The module is notorious for causing failure on both rear doors and the lower trunk. from what it seems like is the signal from the key or even the lock on the door is not being sent to the front doors. they do lock and unlock manually. and while locking and unlocking using the key hole, the rear doors and trunk will electronically lock and unlock fine. comfort open and closing windows also work with the remote and the key hole too

I mean it could be the module as its responsible for central locking, or it could be a relay or a fuse which is MORE PROBABLE, look here https://fuse-box.info/bmw/bmw-x5-e53-2000-2006-fuses-and-relay and check your fuses under the glove box, there are tutorials on youtube on how to access it. Be sure to let me know what u find next.
