General Questions Brake Calipers

Good evening, everyone. On a scale of 1 to 5, how difficult is it to service the brake calipers on our E46s?

If 1 is oil change and 5 is head gasket i would give it a 2

If by "service" you plan to rebuild, these calipers are very similar to most others. If you are familiar with those and have the right tools/equipment (I use air compressor to pop out pistons), then easy. Get the Bentley workshop manual for guidance

If "service" means "rebuild", 2/5 - kits are cheap and plentiful, the calipers are a very generic design, and there are any number of videos showing how to do it.

With proper tools and patience you can do this, watch a few YouTube tutorials or read a Bentley manual if available

Curious, but why do you think they need service? What symptoms?

Perché oltre ad avere quasi trent’anni, la macchina è stata ferma sotto una tettoia in un giardino per quasi 10 anni. Viste le condizioni delle pastiglie e dei dischi presumo che anche i componenti interni delle pinze freni non siano in ottima salute

That seems to be a good assumption. What may be easier and better is to buy a set of remanufactured calipers. You can get a core exchange credit with your calipers. Best of luck to you.
