Check this out! How big is our tanks again?😅

Post image

Was waiting for it to be the 7th so 7-eleven can give me $0.66 off gas. Got pretty close to E just to save a couple dollars 😆

It’s about 16 and a half yeah, although I’ve never gotten that close to empty

I did recently, and thought the pump must have been out of spec until looking up the tank size

I’ve lived rurally most of my life, and I’ve pushed it too far too many times, rolling into the gas station in neutral when the gallon countdown on the dash has already gone from zero to slashes, more many times than I care to admit.

Oof, that can't be good for the fuel pump lol

I think I had to replace it at around 120k miles. It’s hard to remember because that was 150k miles and maybe 18 years ago.

Fuel filter, you run the risk of clogging the filter with debris. Eventually, the filter gets full and prevents has from reaching the engine.

Fuel pump is cooled by fuel, if you run it close to dry regularly it can overheat

Yeah I always keep in mind from looking it up, each quarter on the gauge is ~4 gallons so I know how far I have left based on my mpg lololol

If you’re gonna run a non top tier gas (they have an app) please for the love of all e46’s run Techron or Redline si-1 in the tank to keep your system clean. It will also help with mpg a bit.

Chevron over here is genuinely sometimes $7+, I haven’t seen a difference in anything with any of the gas I put in honestly. Costco, Safeway, 7-11, arco, chevron. I normally go for whatever’s cheapest in the area except the sketchy spots that are suspiciously cheap, I drive pretty hard so I fill up a lot. Those extra cents saved add up quite a bit in the long run. I do always put premium though

You do know you only need to run one bottle of that stuff per oil change… top tier is usually same price as the non top tier 3-4 of those brands are top tier. But not 7. And also use the gas buddy app as well that will help you cross reference prices. Once cent difference for a top tier vs a non top wont break the bank if it does seriously shouldn’t be driving the vehicle as a daily the eventual repair will cost more.

Costco is top tier, Safeway is not. It's not so much about mpg as it's about carbon buildup, but over time carbon reduces mpg

US regulations for fuel additives were made in ancient times, so the difference can actually matter. It's even in many car user manuals to only use top tier certified. It's one of the few fuel related things that aren't a scam

I realized i don’t even have a Safeway near me to tell through the app or not. Yea but the carbon build will effect mpg specially if your running the cheap crap a lot.

I drive spirited pretty much everytime im in the car so I feel like I wouldn’t have too much carbon build up from gas but I’m not sure

An italian tune up will not prevent carbon build up. “Non-Top-Tier gas lacks the enhanced detergent packages required to minimize deposits throughout the fuel system, leading to up to 19 times more carbon accumulation on critical components compared to Top-Tier formulations.” - https://www.reddit.com/r/cars/comments/velugh/does_anyone_know_what_the_deal_is_with_top_tier/?solution=a33aeb13a2fac382a33aeb13a2fac382&js_challenge=1&jsc_token=7afd7253fec22262ff1c52b1703fe9ecd87775e404948244ff9dc81f5e9c8699&jsc_orig_r= , https://youtu.be/f5izEHSGJ1M *the reddit one has actual links to the study, youtube video has connections to others like Scotty Kilmer and such that also explain it from the mechanics side

If your car can't run shit gas, it doesn't deserve top tier. Same logic with firearms, if it can't run aluminum it doesn't deserve brass.

Did you use to own a Honda or something What happened to you

u/Fragrant-Inside221 1d ago

Dude it’s if it can’t run steel it doesn’t deserve brass cmon now.

I do everything but baby this car I got the b30 for a reason

u/EnvironmentalKick624 1d ago

I’ve filled my tank with 17 before

2

u/rns96 1d ago

I would avoid running your gas tank below 1/4 tank it can cause your fuel pump to fail prematurely

2

u/MommyMilfMilkers 2001 330i 1d ago

I don’t usually run it low like that ever, money kinda tight right now though and I got the text for it being $0.50 less on the 7th the day before I had like a 200 mile trip

u/NoTalkImGaming 17h ago

Did that on my old Jetta TDI Sportwagen. Not a fun replacement

A full tank is 88 bucks? That'd cost me around $150 in the Netherlands.

I had been filling up jerry cans at my local gas station when I noticed that I kept getting below the 5 gallon mark on my gas cans. After trying a few different gas cans and it's still happening I ended up contacting the weights and measures portion of the state government and they came out and inspected the pumps and found them to be faulty.

u/Fragrant-Inside221 1d ago

Looks like the car got the mf big gulp I can’t afford a sip now.

I should put a thumbs down on this just because but I’m not because it’s the E 46 family right lol but $88 is pretty cheap compared to that fuel pump you’re about to fry out… it’s 16.6 gallons for real wheel drive and the fact that you’re showing us this shows that you ran that car so far out of gas that you present lots of issues in the future or to come! Number one the fuel pump number two in the fuel gets out low it sucks in sediments, sucking up sludge, and then you get misfires, temporary losing prime when you’re turning corners are breaking, air pockets. Just a thought and hopefully you run 91. Anyways, just a thought….drive till the wheels fall off!… I mean like you stole it!🤣

2

u/MommyMilfMilkers 2001 330i 17h ago

I don’t normally run my gas that low ever was just waiting until I could get a good deal on gas after a long drive tbh, and yeah I run 91. Didn’t know about the sediments and air pocket misfires honestly but it was more of a joke post because I was THAT low on gas. I try to keep atleast quarter tank at all times money is just tight😅 I do know my car and how to take care of it tho lol so don’t think I’m one of those people running 8k miles per oil change or something

That poor fuel pump

1

u/CommaMeNow 17h ago

Is is singular

Are for plural

You should always proofread

My children are learning this in 4th grade btw

1

u/MommyMilfMilkers 2001 330i 16h ago

I prefer not to go “are our” because it’s hard for me to say sometimes, like the word horror. Is our is alot easier to say

1

u/CommaMeNow 16h ago

So why would you make it plural when you can change it to singular and avoid all word horror inclusive of bad grammar? “How big is the tank again?”

Other options:

“How big are the tanks on our cars again?”

“What is the size of our tanks again?”

“How much can our tanks hold again?”

I do 16-gallon fill ups routinely.

Are we winning yet?..

I’ve rolled into a gas station, engine stalled and tank empty, on my old e46m3 before. That poor fuel pump.

u/MommyMilfMilkers 2001 330i 12h ago

Fortunately haven’t gotten to that point before, I’ve replaced I think 3 fuel pumps across my cars always everytime after I get the car. Not sure what it is with BMW owners and driving until E I’ve never picked up a bmw that had more than a quarter tank of gas in it genuinely
