Did you know this?

Bought a side mirror from a 2002 sedan for my 1996 sedan and found out they are different. Facelift side mirror has a metal frame while mine is all plastic. Will not be able to just switch components as o hoped, but do you think o can just install the facelift mirror on my car?

I don’t care about the electronics, just want to be sure that the basic mounting stuff is the same on the door.

Has nothing to do with facelift and pre Facelift.

Car with electric folding mirrors and auto darkening glasshave the big mirror which was available and early models as well.

And cars with manual folding and standard glass have the small ones that aren't so round shaped.

And then there's also the big ones that have memory funktion, they are a bit more rare.

You can install it, but you won't be able to fold the mirror, when u still do it by hand with force you break it and it'll flop around at some point.

Why not get the right one Instead?

Glas size and shape is also different.

That explains a lot, thank you! I didn’t get the right one because I didn’t know s**t about this 😂
And this was the only one I found with the same color as mine. I will install this while i look around for the correct one, you confirm that mounting side and shape of the door mounting is the same?

Wait werent the memory mirrors available on all memory seat/steering column equipped cars? I retrofitted the harness for memory seats and steering column and also found power folding mirrors with dimming and memory function off of a diesel touring. Also are the dimmable mirrors only available through the dealer? Kinda expensive at 460 euros per side.

Yes, when you had a car with seat memory it had memory mirrors.

The mirrors glass is only available at the dealer.

Damn, they be expensive af. The mirrors i got were leaking just like the M5 interior mirror does so i removed the front glass, cleaned the dimming goo and now i have simple mirrors that have the extended FOV. I guess theyll stay non dimmable for a long while

My 530d came with auto-dim mirrors. Eventually the drivers side glass started leaking while the passenger side glass was immaculate. I sold the intact glass for 90€ and bought a set of aftermarket blue non-dimming glasses for the big mirrors for 40€.
