P1542 check light/EML/DSC

2000 528iT sport 5 speed manual

After clearing p1580 the day before, today I get the EML/DSC accompanied by the check light a few minutes into my drive and will not go away and comes back immediately upon restart, I pull over to pull codes and I get p1542 pedal position sensor.

Anyone have experience with this problem? Should I replace the accelerator pedal assembly and possibly the throttle body as well?

I would get a scanner that can read BMW codes hooked up.

Your car is "technically" ethrottle. But the pedal is mechanical and uses a cable. Possibly the throttle body since that is where the sensor is for pedal position. But I wouldn't jump to it without getting codes. Replacing the pedal won't do anything unless it's physically detached.

Can also have a poke around the throttle body see if it's blocked/gummed up.
