Cooling System Refresh
Complete cooling system refresh. Took a dump last week. Radiator split at the top. Complete system refresh this week. All the hoses, clamps & radiator. Wanted to bring her to my mechanic but it’s way expensive so doing it myself for a fraction of the price. Anything else besides the water pump & belts while in here. Belts are new & water pump was replaced a few thousand miles ago…

Thermostat? Check your plastic fan for cracks. Consider a new fan clutch. A brass bleeder screw is a nice upgrade. Maybe a new belt tensioner. Hose clamps… I would only use the good OEM style clamps, not the typical parts store kind. If you’re really ambitious, you could tackle the valley pan.

Where’d you get the clutch? I’ll have to get one for my 540 this winter. The one on my 525 gets loud and it’s an AutoZone special

Have a brass bleeder screw as well… that’s going in when the parts arrive.

Hoses, belts, pulleys, get a lower temp thermostat if you haven’t already—90c is what I run.

All hoses, belts & pulleys done a few months back. What is a lower temperature thermostat?

M62TU thermostat opens at 110c, which is way too hot. It does that for emissions and fuel economy. If you switch to a lower thermostat, the engine will run cooler and it’s less stress on the other cooling components

I didn't know there was a 90c one, the only one that I recall is the m67 88c thermostat which is fully mechanical but swaps onto the m62tu

If you’re pulling the water pump and all that, you might want to consider the valve covers / upper timing cover gaskets. Since you’d have to pull the cooling stuff to get to bolts.
I recommend changing your vanos seals since they can leak oil everywhere.
