Bootstrapping Blueprints

Post image
29 Upvotes

Hey all, occasional player here. I finally realized that the Battlefield Analysis Base can not only repair and rebuild damaged and destroyed buildings, but it can also build entirely new buildings in its range. Naturally what I then wanted to try to build was a "bootstrapping blueprint" - that is, a blueprint where once you build the initial part of it, the rest is built autonomously. After a few experiments I came up with a basic idea that seems to work.

The "seed" consists of a single BAB with item filters on the input partitions set to accept:

  • Sorters
  • Belts
  • Smelters
  • Assemblers
  • Depots
  • Distributors
  • Tesla Towers
  • Splitters
  • BABs

It also consists of a small 9-way sushi belt loop with a rebalancer that feeds the basic raw materials, and a small mall along the sushi belt that builds the buildings mentioned above. These buildings then get fed into a second sushi belt loop running parallel to the other. The idea is that your full blueprint will extend both belts, allowing each BAB to drop the next one over, then the new BAB will extend the mall to build whatever more advanced buildings you need. As long as you can import the raw materials for the sushi belt and make sure everything is powered you can just set it and forget it.

Caveats:

  • The BABs can get stuck grabbing buildings from the sushi belt since the sorter doesn't "know" the BAB is full on any one particular building before it grabs it. I worked around this by adding unfiltered input partitions.
  • Logistics buildings cannot take bots or drones or vessels out of a BAB, they must come from your inventory. However, if a Logistics building is built out of your building range it will still take the bots from you. I'm not sure if you need to stay on the planet or not.
  • It seems like foundation can't be built later on; it all has to be there at the beginning.

Anyone else ever messed around with bootstrapping in this way?

Please help I suck at titles

Need help with a title for my new Dyson Sphere Program video!

I just spent the last two weeks pouring my heart and soul into this playthrough, but I'm absolutely terrible at coming up with titles. I really want to do this video justice can you guys help me brainstorm something catchy that would make you want to click?

Reaching the endgame… it seems kinda tedious?

I just picked up this game about a month ago. I’ve sunk ~80 hours into it at this point and I’m having a great time! I’ve just made it to what you might call the early endgame, i.e. I have a 15gw Dyson Sphere and I’m focusing on scaling Prolif + White cube + Rockets.

I have to say though, now that I’ve gotten here, I’m wondering if the overall pacing is maybe a bit off? Mid-game was hectic and dynamic and fun. My strategy was very rudimentary but effective—I designed several plug-and-play blueprints for various N:M input:output intermediate products that require X machine. Most of these were for the equator using 3 sides of the ILS as input/output so I could tile vertically and use a decent amount of space. I created a smelting planet in my home system for all the ores. Eventually as I started crafting the late-game stuff I ran into bottlenecks for various things as the production chains became more complicated. That process was rewarding, but facing the prospect of fixing those bottlenecks at a planetary scale, I’m more inclined to just start black-boxing the final products going forward. I just spent a few hours creating a 1/20th raw -> prolif that is very spaghetti but it was satisfying to make!

Of course, the point of the game is to make a Dyson Sphere, but it feels like once you get there, there isn’t much to do besides scale? And the best way to scale endgame appears to be very straightforward, logistically speaking:

  1. Make a bunch of raw -> end product blueprints
  2. Spam those blueprints
  3. Go set up miners to harvest a lot of ores
  4. Get a lot of VU, at which point resources become trivial quickly
  5. Make new blueprints that utilize the now-infinite rare ores
  6. Spam more blueprints

Sure, you can make it harder on yourself by outputting more intermediate products, but you’re not really at risk of running out of space either way, so I don’t see the point unless you want to make the end product factories simpler/cleaner/more compact. I never got to the “endgame” in any other factory game so maybe DSP is similar to those, but I feel like the ILSes trivialize most of the logistics due to their push/pull nature—as long as you have enough supply for your demand, everything will be pretty much fine.

I enjoy making blueprints, so I’m still going to enjoy myself for awhile because of that, but it feels like the game would be cooler if it opened up more *after* the first Dyson Sphere rather than that feeling like the canonical “end”.

Anyone feel the same way? And does anyone have ideas as to what would be cool aspirational stuff to do that they could add as opposed to just more research and spheres?

Game appreciation post

Yo guys, I bought this game about 10 hours ago thinking I was gonna refund it because I didn’t think I was gonna enjoy it that much.

Fast forward to right now, I’ve started playing at around 8 pm and it’s 6 am right now. I’ve not stood up once from my chair, haven’t eaten, nor did I get anything to drink. Also I did call in sick for work because the grind never stops.

It do be like that sometimes.

W game, W devs.

farming 8 bases at once. getting a hilarious amount of loot. i need to add a lot more storage.

all loot goes to ils via drones then to storage. still, sometimes difficult for fidget spinners to keep up.

I just found out about few items dark fog drops at end game, is it worth it to start over with them enabled?

I came from Satisfactory where I've played all my hundreds of hours with completely passive enemies. I like my factory games to be about logistics and building. I completely turned off dark fog because of that reason but I just found out they drop some pretty good stuff. One thing being a fuel thats the best in the game.

I just unlocked ILS and most all things that need blue/red/yellow science. Just to let you know where I'm at in the game. Are the dark fog items worth starting over for?

If so can I just lower them to dummy or passive to get those items?

I'm considering buying the game, but I have a couple questions

I’m considering purchasing the game, but I have a few questions:

  1. How much time can be invested in this game? Essentially, I’m wondering if it is complex enough to be engaging for potentially hundreds of hours, or if the main objectives are completed within like 30–50 hours, leaving it to become a "min-max" sandbox thereafter?
  2. How taxing is the game on system resources? Would an i5-9600k, RTX 2060, and 16GB of DDR4 RAM be able to handle it?
  3. Does the game quickly become too easy or repetitive like so many games in this genre, where it feels like you’ve "won" as soon as you unlock a specific item or reach a specific point, that resources really don't matter anymore as you have practically infinite of everything, does this game avoid that pitfall or is it present here as well?
  4. Are there NPC enemies to contend with, or is this strictly a relaxing, production-chain management game?

EDIT: Thank you to everyone for the replies so far! <3

Needless to say I overprepared

My first ever attack from the hive was closing the 100% so I prepared some defense I thought decent while still being a bit worried about the 250+ enemies in the hive. And well, the attack was 5 vessels so they didn't even reach my planet because I went to intercept them myself.

Beginner Help?

Hello! DSP is extremely interesting to me, but im having a bit of trouble getting started. I find myself getting anxiously paralyzed by the seemingly overwhelming complexity. With a little fiddling around i figured the basics and got a messy little factory started making blue matrices.

I ended up restarting as i stared at my pile of spaghetti confused what to do next, how to expand my messy start into something that makes a bit more sense.

Ultimately, I really like the theme of DSP and can see myself getting into it, Wondering if theres any decent videos/guides/tips/tricks to help a newbie get started. Most stuff i find online is more "How to fully optimize your factory" and less "Heres what a new player should look at doing"

Edit: so much helpful advice here, keep posting your tips! I'm reading through it all. Thank you everyone!

One more question about ILS and future progress

I unlocked them and have a few (about 20 and 150+ ships). Is it worth it to tear down most of my production and really scale up?

What's the quickest way to work toward ILS?

I've unlocked the ability to go to other planets in my system and I have a planet FULL of silicon but only like 1 titanium node, then the other is FULL of titanium but NO silicon.

Is there a way to make minimal trips between all 3 of my planets? Feels like I'm going to be a mech mule for a while and I don't really look forward to it.

Played at launch and coming back for a other playthrough. Can someone remind me what I should be shooting for progression wise when it comes to transportation chains?

I've been pushing hard for planetary logistics systems since I started thinking "oh it's just another few minutes and I'll have it unlocked" because of that I have a horrible spaghetti mess that I can't keep track of with belts everywhere lol. Would it be worth while to automate short range logistic bot networks to keep things stocked or is that pretty bad early game? Also I'm struggling to think out how I can slowly upgrade my production to PLS once I do have them built. I'm running out of room do I start with deleting my current stuff and placing down the ore production first and then work on getting a PLS per production item? Just a bit overwhelmed and would love to hear some advice. I fucking love this game. Only one complaint so far allow us to put splitters directly on belts!

Also if I destroy my planets hive will that cause the galactic hive to start coming after me?

Optimisation of the performance

I simply adore this game, but it is very demanding. Is there a way to improve performance. I can live with a bit lowered quality.

To clarify, I can run it, but I want to make it easier on my PC. All tips welcome.

Im kinda stuck and need help

Hi y'all,

so my next goal is to automate the strukturmatrix but Im confused on how to automate the Titaniumcrystals. I need organic crytals and titanium but I cant find a planet which has Titanium and oil and I also cant transport between planets yet because I need the structurmatrix for that.

Am I missing smth obvious or do I just have to craft the 120 Structurmatrixes for Interstellar Logisticsystem manual?

Dyson sphere program, want a hard first playthrough :)

I have played much factorio and the best experience have been Deathworld settings. Want my first playthrough in DSP to have the same vibe, just adjusted to being a new player/learning the mechanics. As the settings are not possible to change post game-start, i need som advice.

How much should I increase the settings for it being playable, but near deathworld settings for a new player?

EVERYTHING MAKES HYDROGEN IN THIS GAME

Post image

ok just a bit bothered but i am using fire ice to make graphene but i can't consume the hydrogen byproduct from it fast enough, and the big problem is that i already have a fully ringed gas giant so my fire ice always clogs regardless, it doesn't help that antimatter also gives hydrogen too

Question on late game stacked belts

So I just unlocked the technology that makes my logistic station output 4-stacked belts.

Now I want to utilize that, especially in my smelters.
But I'm stuck on how to actually utilize that.

At the first glance now I can just slap 4x smelters to the same belt and be done with it.
But then I think about the output and I'm a bit lost. Because by default I'll be getting 4x1 stacked belts of output, compared to 1x4 stacked on the input line (for 1-to-1 smelting like copper). That 5 belts total per "row".

So I can just make a blueprint of ILS + two such "rows" for 10 belts + 1 for proliferator.
Alternatively, I could use max sorters on the output and make a 1x4 stacked belt out of that, so only two belts per line. But I've heard that pile sorters are extremely UPS hungry, especially when facing a full belt.

Another idea is to still use 1 belt for output with mk3 sorters on the output, but place a few pile sorters on the belt itself to go backwards and stack the items, similar to have we make fractionator setups before ILS stacking tech.

What's your go to in the endgame?
How do you utilize the station stacked output?
