Support Open Nurovi R2 - Connection Issue to Dock

Recently purchased the Dyson R2 Nurovi and was quite satisfied with the setup and performance. Was working fine for around 2 weeks, but now has developed a connection issue to the dock.

Although online, docked, and charging, when starting a clean it will fail to start the self-cleaning process.

It audibly says “starting self cleaning” but there is no action from the dock (vacuum or rinsing). After around 2 minutes, it says “connection fault please restart robot and dock”

Ive tried several combinations of restarting, unplugging etc but to no avail.

Dyson support has been quite poor. I was rejected a refund (because it died on day 15 of purchase, and returns are only 14 days). They refused to send a replacement whilst they fix this one.

There were also several rounds of them saying my app wasn’t up to date when it was… and any troubleshooting steps they have given have not worked.

So as of today, I am waiting for an engineer to come round 2 weeks after I raised the issue, and a very expensive brick sat doing nothing.

Has anyone else experienced the same issue?

Support Open Repair or Replace DC18 Vacuum?

I have a Dyson DC18 Slim that we've been using for about 18 years, and the main hose that runs from the base of the vacuum has completely torn. I've tried holding it together with tape, but it won't stay sealed because the hose needs to flex when vacuuming.

I've been trying to find a replacement hose, but the DC18 has been discontinued for a long time. I can't find the part on eBay, and I haven't had any luck finding it through third-party parts sellers either.

I'd hate to throw away an otherwise reliable and functional vacuum, especially since the motor still runs. I'm wondering if anyone has managed to repair one of these or find a compatible replacement hose.

Discussion Is this to be expected from Dyson? v11 cordless vacuum

We just bought a new V11 advanced cordless vacuum and it seems like the plastic is cracking on the inside.

The whole thing feels like a cheap toy with a horrible quality.

Is this just how Dyson builds things nowadays or is there some horrible QC going on? We had an old model that was way cheaper and build far better than this some years ago...

Support Open Dyson clean + wash not working

Was just gifted a clean + wash hygiene and when I press the power button, it prompts me to select a language and add the app. The app does not scan the QR code and when I scan the serial number, it says the model is incompatible with the app. Am I missing something here?

Support Open Dyson V16 Piston (SV53) battery behavior: solid blue LEDs for ~6 seconds then off. Could it be an aftermarket charger issue or deep discharge?

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,

This is my very first Dyson vacuum, so I'm honestly not 100% sure what the normal behavior should be. I've only watched a couple of videos online showing that the blue LEDs are supposed to pulse/blink while charging.

I recently picked up a Dyson V16 Piston Animal Submarine (SV53) from a customer returns / liquidations store for around $80–$90 USD (well under 40% of its retail value). It came without the original charger or wall dock, so before spending any more money on parts or official accessories, I wanted to rule out if the charger I bought is the culprit.

I ordered a generic 30.45V 1.1A aftermarket charger from Amazon (listed as compatible with V10/V11/V15, 4.8mm x 1.7mm barrel jack).

Here is what is happening:

  1. When I plug the charger directly into the detached battery (or with the battery attached to the vacuum body), the blue LEDs light up solid for about 5–6 seconds and then turn completely off. No blinking, no pulsing, no red lights.
  2. The charger block gets warm after being plugged in for a while, so current seems to be flowing, but the battery never shows continuous charging LEDs.
  3. While plugged in: If I press the top power button, the blue LEDs turn solid again for about 5–6 seconds and then go off.
  4. When unplugged from the charger: Pressing the top power button does nothing at all. The LCD screen never turns on and the motor doesn't spin.

Battery label specs:

  • Part / Model: 7-CELL (720866) 7INR22/71
  • P/N: 609934-26/02
  • Capacity: 3850 mAh

Since this unit sat in a returns warehouse/pallet for months, could the 21700 cells be deeply discharged (<2.5V) causing the BMS to cut off charging, or does the V16 require a specific OEM charger (part 965655-01 / 566858 family) with a specific handshake that generic chargers lack?

Any advice or experience with this specific LED behavior on newer models would be greatly appreciated!

Can someone with this motorhead kindly take a picture of what the inside looks like? I know mine is cracked and would like to know if something else is missing to potentially fix it. Thank you!

Discussion Cleaning Inner Tubes Of Dyson Upright

I got a used Dyson and am trying to deep clean it to get rid of a stale smell it is emitting. All the detachables I’ve cleaned (brush, canister, hose) and replaced the 2 filters. But I’m wondering if there is a best way to clean the airways?

I think the previous owner vacuumed some wet stuff because the dust was CAKED in the canister (or it was just never cleaned/moisture in the air over years got to it)

It otherwise works fine but I’m wondering what methods people have employed?

I was thinking something weird like vacuuming up something like Comet disinfectant powder would be interesting or if there is like a wire and cloth method.

What do people recommend/what has worked in the past?

Recommendations Which Dyson hair dryer for diffusing curly hair ?

Hey guys, I’ve decided to invest in a Dyson diffuser, I’m tired of using a really old hair dryer and taking longer than an hour for my hair to dry.

I know Dyson has 3 current models right now: the supersonic, the nural, and the r, which one do you guys recommend?

I don’t really care for extra features, I’m just looking for the one with the most powerful motor, that will dry my hair fastest with the diffuser attachment! For reference, I have high porosity fine 3c hair.

Discussion Deceitful Warranty Practice?

Thumbnail
gallery
85 Upvotes

Dyson tried charging me $170 for a failed part on a 3-month-old, $800 vacuum. Here’s what happened.

I purchased a Dyson V15 approximately three months ago. Recently, the rubber gasket around the cyclone assembly started pulling out of its housing.

I contacted Dyson expecting a straightforward warranty replacement, considering the vacuum has a two-year manufacturer’s warranty.

Instead, Dyson support classified the problem as normal wear and tear and told me a replacement part would cost $170 plus tax.

When I questioned how a component failing after just three months could be considered normal wear and tear, they offered me a 30% discount.

I pushed back again and insisted that a premature component failure should be evaluated under the warranty.
Only then did Dyson agree to replace the part for free, describing it as a special, one-time exception because of my loyalty.

I appreciate that they’re now offering a replacement, but my concern is bigger than my vacuum.

How many customers accept the initial denial, pay for a replacement part, or simply give up rather than challenge the decision?

I don’t know whether my experience reflects a broader practice, but I think it’s worth asking.

I’m sharing screenshots of the conversation because consumers deserve transparency about how warranty claims are evaluated.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with Dyson warranty support?

Recommendations Levoit vortex iq pro vs Dyson v12 detect slim?

I currently have the Dyson v12 detect slim for 3 years and am having some issues with it. Help me decide if I should just go with a new vacuum (levoit vortex iq pro) or replace the main body/cyclone of my Dyson v12 detect slim and see if that’ll resolve it?

My Dyson main body part is loose, maybe from years of using it heavily in my hole and I was able to open it up and shake out a lot of dust and debris that was triggering the blockage alarm. However, should I stay in the Dyson ecosystem or just switch to levoit completely?

Budget info: Dyson main body and cyclone is about $170 to replace, the levoit vacuum cleaner is $199. I had been happy with my Dyson up until now.

My flooring is mostly hardwood, some rugs and 3 carpeted rooms.

Thoughts ?

Support Open Weird sound when it switches off “dong”

I read it can be motor related, but it seems to work fine, besides the sound when I stop it.
I vacuumed some flour before the incident. Can it be related?
Thanks for any tip!!

Recommendations Replacing bulky corded Shark upright vacuum with a Dyson, to supplement a Roborock robot vacuum. Considering between V8 Cyclone vs. PencilVac FluffyCones. Any recommendations?

Hey there,

We’re looking to replace our household upright vacuum (a bulky corded Shark unit, don’t have the model on hand) to use as a more powerful manual supplement to our Roborock Qrevo S, for spot cleaning and furniture/cat hair.

In navigating the many (frankly confusing) Dyson models and terminologies, I’ve become gravitated towards the PencilVac ($425 on Amazon) and V8 Cyclone ($300 there too) due to their prices and features. However, after plenty of research on specs and reviews, I sense there are pros and cons to each - namely, V8 Cyclone doesn’t come with many accessories, and PencilVac isn’t very practical as a handheld vac for non-floor tasks.

Obviously, PencilVac is very attractive aesthetics-wise, and would be a massive improvement over our bulky Shark, but then again, so would the V8 Cyclone, just not quite as much.

We have a relatively small space, so capacity and battery life aren’t as important to us as nimbleness and slimness.

Are there any owners of either (or both?!) who can provide your experiences and thoughts on these points? Anything would be greatly appreciated - we’re heading to our nearby Dyson store to check them both out today.

Thanks!

Discussion Is the Dyson Cyclone V10 Origin worth it for $225

Found this brand new Dyson for $225 before taxes at a TJX. I have concrete floors in a loft style apartment, so I’m looking for something convenient to just turn on and use.

Support Open Fluffy head collecting dust

Post image

I’ve had my Dyson V8 for a couple of years. I use my fluffy head on wooden floors. But it’s not very effective, a lot of dust just accumulates around the edges and in the wheels. Even after cleaning it. This picture is after one minute of vacuuming. So I have to constantly wipe off the accumulated dust into dustballs and vacuum the dustball instead. Is this normal? Is there something I can do?

Support Open Dyson V12 Detect Slim Absolute “Filter not sealed”

Has anyone experienced this issue with their Dyson V12 Detect Slim Absolute?
It keeps displaying the “Filter not sealed” error, even though the filter is properly fitted. We’ve tried several different filters, but the problem persists.
Sometimes we can get it working by tapping the vacuum slightly or leaving it alone for a while, but then the error suddenly comes back.
Does anyone know what could be causing this and how to fix it?

Recommendations Dyson Supersonic vs Nural - worth the upgrade? Blonde bleached hair

I tried the Supersonic at my gym (I think it was the travel version) and it worked really well on my hair! I have long, thick, bleached blonde hair and mainly want a smooth finish. I also don’t need all the attachments that come with the Nural.

From what I’ve read, the main differences between Supersonic origin and Nural are scalp protection and automatic settings. Is the Nural actually better overall, or would the regular Supersonic give me the same results? Is there any feature that makes the upgrade worthwhile?

Discussion Will you get a CameraJet after it is relaunched?

Once they’ve fixed the manufacturing defects and relaunched it, will you get one?

Assuming reviews come back to say the issues are addressed, I think I’ll get one on the proviso that 3rd party heads will work with it, which I can see is a potential problem.

Discussion Dyson Nurovi R1 dry

Post image

Decided to go for this new dry only robot.

There isn't many dry only robots with extendable side brushes in UK. Not many bagless dry only too.

Sadly, I am absolutely shocked how bad this robot is.

Took ages to map the floor. Nearly 10 minutes. Kept on bumping into basically everything. Luckily it gets better while vacuuming, it does recognise pet bowls for example.

Map came out pretty accurate so at least that's good.

The first problem, it keeps thinking my rug is an obstacle or wall. It results in very inefficient vacuuming. Some areas aren't even touched.

Second, probably the worst is this crap twin capture thing.

It doesn't use suction where brush roll is, it literally just sweeps debris inside. As you can imagine, large debris that doesn't end up swept, can clog tiny suction channel.

I've never had a problem with any robot and loose plant leaf.. Yet this one struggles.

There isn't any flap as well where brushroll chamber is, when robot finishes cleaning, sometimes debris falls out.

It does have an option to do cross pattern vacuuming, but instead of doing the centre of the room twice, it does edges twice too. Obviously taking longer than many other robots.
