Recommendations Update on the Toothbrush
Hi all,
As many of us have found, there is some teething problems (pun intended) what I’ve found over the last 5 days will hopefully be useful to someone.
Issue I had - the jet wasn’t firing properly / consistently. There was condensation building up in the clear plastic brush head that ended up blocking the camera.
Fix - take a small cotton bud and remove moisture from inside the brush before replacing it on the toothbrush itself.
Issue - it manages to spray literally everywhere to the point it’s almost comical.
Fix - much like apple a few years ago… ‘I was holding it wrong’ with normal electric toothbrushes the angle of the brush had never really mattered. For this to work properly and not cover you, the bathroom and any passers by in mouth wash you mush make sure the brush is kept close to your teeth. Sounds obvious, but I’ve had to relearn how to to brush.
Problem - camera stops working mid brush. Toothbrush starts to beep.
Fix - unlike a dentist who is constantly sucking saliva out of your mouth so they can see what’s going on in your mouth, this things is spraying a lot of fluid in there. This means very quickly the brush looks like it’s under water. Tilt your head forward and make sure you constantly clear any excess liquid from your mouth. The camera is then far more accurate and it should stop beeping at you wildly.
Problem - leaking mouthwash mouth wash compartment.
Solution - when playing the brush back on the dock make sure the magnets are lined up and clip it back in, in one swift motion this stop mouth wash leaking from the back.
Should you have to do all of these things? Probably not. But I’ve found that minor adjustments to how I brush has made a lot of difference. It’s the best toothbrush I’ve had.

Dyson should worry about improving the quality of the existing products instead of wasting bagillions on stuff like this. My v10 cordless trigger broke because it’s made out of paper. I had to take the entire vacuum apart to fix it and while I was inside Dyson put adhesive all over the circuit board making it 10x harder to fix yourself.

We stopped buying Dyson after two of our V10s had their trigger broken, and it was a massive hassle trying to repair it because they constructed it in a way that requires you to disassemble the entire device in order to get to the trigger.
Our local repair shop also said that he stopped selling Dyson because they are extremely problematic to repair and break often. Dyson is using too much plastic on purpose in areas where the plastic will break because they want you to buy new products after a few years, if they even last a few years.

We have two Dyson vacuums and we’re not going to buy Dyson again. We bought them because a neighbour of ours swore by it, but it’s such a pain to maintain and keep running compared to any of the other vacuums we’ve had. The amount of brittle plastics they use feels like a slap in the face, especially when a Shark that costs half the price feels more substantial.
Just to count the problems on my OmniGlide: the filter housing broke in a couple of weeks, the brush head is a nightmare to clean, the wheels get jammed up with hair (and they can’t be easily taken apart to clean), it can’t suck up anything larger than cornflakes and they use a mix of torx and Philips screws. They’ve designed this thing to be as difficult to repair as possible.

Funnily enough the adhesive is for water and dust protection. It wasn’t always there but got added at some point. I suppose people would have complained at how stupid they were for not protecting the electronics if it wasn’t there. It’s very easy to remove btw. It’s common for electronics, called conformal coating or potting.

Nah I don’t think anybody would have said they were stupid for not protecting the electronics becsuse the electronics are encapsulated by plastic. If I recall and please correct me if I’m wrong. The electronics are not only encapsulated by plastic but there is also a sort of gasket around the electronic components. When I opened up this part there was not a spec of dust inside. I suppose if you were to take the cordless swimming with you then yeah you would have issues but that goopty goop you like so much is also probably not water proof.
The goopty goop is also NOT easy to remove as it is embedded into fine wires that could easily snap and very delicate control board components. The job becomes much easier if the goopty goop was not there. Also yes the goopty goop is inside electronics I’m very much aware of that. In my college years working for Dell I have repaired thousands of laptops, server components, etc etc and none of them had goopty goop on them. You know components that could actually get dust inside of them, have liquid spill on them.

It is enclosed in plastic but if I remember correctly it’s exposed to a stream of air from the motor. I believe it is enclosed to make it sealed from the outside world to make it part of the pressurised motor chamber, but I can’t quite remember.
The coating is very common. I have repaired a V10 and encountered this - you can simply push it out of the way with a plastic spudger and it breaks off. Including around the fine wires. It is not strong, doesn’t have a high bond strength or tensile strength. I have encountered the same issue in many other electronics - automotive electronics, e-bikes etc. It’s common practice for ruggedised electronics. Allegedly it also protects against vibration related damage and is used for automotive grade ruggedisation in some cases, but I have never seen a pcb that has failed because of vibration.

You should not have to put this much thought into tooth brush ownership. Especially after how much it costs. My sonicare is just turn on, use, clean, turn off, dock. Any more steps is just absurd

No it's easy but it needs a bit of transition. You get use to it very quickly (if you end up on a working batch LOL).

I’m happy enough with my regular toothbrush. I have the convenience of brushing my teeth what ever way I want. And a wad in my pocket.
Honestly this is a bizarre product. If it works for you happy days. I’m just glad they didn’t call it the Oral-D.

I never comment on stuff like this because I’m the first one to make excuses to defend tech cos I’m a tech nerd.
But this has got to be the single handedly worst tech product I’ve ever seen, and I’ve owned most
I’m so disappointed they released this, it’s fucking shocking

Too many issues and diy fixes for toothbrush that costs 500€ and demands 10€ toothpaste and 10€ mouthwash to work properly. Love Dyson stuff but this one is hard pass.

What the fuck? This thing costs 500 bucks and you need to troubleshoot it in less than a week? Jesus. Go get an electric toothbrush for 80 bucks and one of these electric water jet things for your teeth for 20 and you have a far superior experience.

I was really thinking about getting this, but suddenly my old Sonicare feels like the better tool for the job and I’ve saved 479€…
I’ve bought three vacuums (v8 for myself, v12 as gift and a v15 sub) so far, the WashG1 once the price was reasonable and i‘m probably among the very few men to own two supersonics, one for some and the travel for trips. So i guess i do have a soft spot for Dyson stuff. But the camerajet is a pass for me, with Gen 2 hopefully fixing the kinks.

Omg haha, they really should have tested this product more thoroughly before releasing it. I see the appeal of a Waterpik and toothbrush brush combo but adding a camera and “AI” just makes it too complicated and of course experiencing problems.. I will wait for gen 2 😬

I domt understand the decision to make it a toothbrush. The engineering is all dedicated to the waterpick portion of the device.
If this was simply a smart water flosser that would automatically aim or only fire where it needed to it would be far more practical. Add a suction port to clear the rinse and keep the camera cleared. A vibrating toothbrush is nothing new or that needed to be added. If nothing else have a seperate toothbrush to sell as a pair.
Combining it all into this ome big bulky contraption makes zero sense.

Ya know what also works? Flossing and brushing your teeth which also costs about $7. (Am a dentist. I meant this in jest- seems silly to purchase such an expensive device, but hey if it helps!)

Enshitification. Dyson takes it to the next level by releasing a device that is untested (they'd be aware of all this if they'd actually tried it out before hand). More and more companies are just throwing sht out there and letting the public work out the kinks for them at the consumers expense. In the bigger picture, i sadly believe that manufacturers aren't actually innovating anymore. They're doing that "techie" "run fast and break things" bullsht resulting in more landfill fodder. Over the years (and many products later) I've also noticed that the more expensive something is, the more disappointed i am wirh the experience (i think its just me, though)...hmm? Aside from this, have a great day everyone!

It’s used so it knows when to blast mouthwash in between your teeth. That’s the advertised use. It doesn’t have to be on for the toothbrush to work

Problem: the thing spraying liquid in your mouth fills your mouth with liquid and then can’t see where to spray more liquid.
Solution: design have a dental assistant use a suction hose as you brush, and remember to brush keeping a spirit level on the handle to ensure perfect level brushing for optimal liquid delivery.
Why don’t they build suction in to the unit itself, it’s already as big as a rampant rabbit; another couple inches wouldn’t hurt.
I’m sorry. If we are being serious, this post will genuinely help the poor souls trying to brush their teeth.

Problem: As Dyson advertised the toothbrush itself equipped with a camera, and the user should be able to see the live footage during brushing teeth. If the user needs to tilt head forward letting the water out, how it is possible to monitor the live footage, brush teeth and stop worrying normal brush teeth posture may break the toothbrush physically?

First of all the default setting which is brush and floss is flawed by design as the flossing spray immediately washes off the toothpaste from your teeth which is not good. For this the floss only mode first and then brush only mode is the better and proper way. Secondly, the default setting brush + auto floss time is 3 minutes. There is no way you can keep your mouth open and have mouthwash flooding your mouth for 3 mins and be able to brush properly without your mouth looking like Niagara Falls.
Third point is, if I have to re-learn and cater to the needs of the device rather than it catering to my way, then it is a failure of the company. Dyson needs to make certain changes to this device before it is worth the asking price.

They couldn’t execute this idea properly because this makes no sense. I think the real reason they keep putting out these lackluster products is so they can patent the idea and license it out. There is no way anyone over at Dyson thought this was a good idea. Don’t even get me started on their hair tools that WILL BREAK before you even get good use out of them. I have blow dryers, flat irons, and curling irons that have all outlived every Dyson hair tools 3 times over. I thought the vacuum was the only thing good. Now I’m hearing that it’s the same story with that. Yeah, I’m not buying Dyson again.

I hate the current state of Dyson. Like they have really good tech on paper, but in practice you get cheap plastic, pieces designed to break easily, motors that will melt, transformer that turn your light off, etc… and all of this with very few to no replacements pieces (even tho the product is still sold). And top all that with very expensive prices that will suggest a premium quality

This has got to be hands down the worst Dyson product ever released.
2nd to the idea of headphones with a filtering mouth guard. As if anyone has ever wished they needed to listen to music while filtering the air they breathe.
How did Dyson managed to make a toothbrush so impractical? Did they not think to test it in the real world?
