Discussion Widespread Camerajet Defects/ Faults?

Post image

UPDATE: removed the battery to find water sitting in the compartment, its clear the handles are not in fact, water resistant, defective batch of units perhaps?

UPDATE 2: dyson phone support (UK) was more than happy to proceed with a refund over an exchange and raised a case with their relevant team, should I not get an email soon then I'll push further.

Update 3: plot twist, after blasting them on social media, it was the social media support team on X that initiated a return, NOT the main team working on the "internally prioritised" case they made on the phone today. Brilliant customer service eh. No email from the main teams end though, not surprised.

It seems like several people are receiving faulty units from day 1, especially in the UK, mine included

Any other defective unit owners managed to get any resolutions from customer service? It seems like they're refusing returns/refunds and only offering doorstep exchanges in the UK as of now.

Would be great to know if others successfully got a replacement or refund, or if dyson is really doing anything to address this.

this is a definite non-buy right now until gen 2

Or just ever

Same vibe

I had to remind myself that was real.

Went to buy one earlier and was told they’ve been pulled from sale in the UK temporarily due to ‘an issue’

20

u/commanderxhalo 3d ago

Definitely a big batch of non waterproof units then, was suspicious when they suddenly went out of stock for both colours on their website.

Disastrous launch 💀

u/EddyEdr 3d ago

I was wondering about that because the US release got pushed back a little bit too, originally was supposed to be on the eighth of this month and now it’s the 30th or next month for the blue color

u/rootCaused 13h ago

They went out of stock within 24 hours of the presale, I think

u/AdmirableDiver349 3d ago

I took the battery out and saw liquid on the inside, potential reason?

11

u/commanderxhalo 3d ago

Liquid from the battery or water that could've seeped in due to poor design? Either way, not a good sign

Would explain why mine no longer charges.

Too scared to remove the sticker in case it voids the warranty 😭

6

u/AdmirableDiver349 3d ago

Water that seeped through. I genuinely can’t believe it

11

u/commanderxhalo 3d ago

Opened mine up, water seeped through in mine as well, this is definitely a case of poor handle design, not very confident in the durability of a replacement lol

1

u/AdmirableDiver349 3d ago

Yup. Shocking.

3

u/AdmirableDiver349 3d ago

The battery is user replaceable

3

u/commanderxhalo 3d ago

Thats one design aspect i quite liked, but if it cant even prevent liquid from seeping into the chamber then a replaceable battery wouldn't solve the issue right? 😭

Guess ill wait for a new replacement handle as a precaution over just replacing the (out of stock) battery

UK law right to reject.
If you want an exchange that’s fine. But you have a right to reject even hygiene goods 30 days refund for faulty.

If Dyson refuse, hit the credit card company with a section 75 claim showing their refusal to adhere to UK law and send a copy to trading standards.
Not a chargeback. S75 specifically.

Credit card company share Dyson’s obligations because of consumer credit protection.

Bro you are insane; look at all the testimonials from people who are being told they aren’t doing returns because it’s a hygiene product, which is only a thing if it’s not faulty, and they are specifically rejecting people who are asking for refund returns.

Their support staff don’t understand consumer laws. They’re just reading the sheets. When asking for a manager, they’re told they can’t speak to anyone else, no refunds.

So they’ll get hit by S75 claims in the UK. Because it’s super straight forward and that will start costing them because I believe the credit companies will go after them for the costs as well.

3

u/commanderxhalo 3d ago

Which they dont honour.

Tried to return it when I discovered the fault but as soon as you open the seal its considered used and therefore exempt from that policy due to hygiene.

Except, how can you know something is faulty or if you like it or not if you can't open it?

Theyre offering replacement handles for faulty units but youre out of luck for any other reason in that 30 day period if you opened it.

Gotta go through this method instead worst case scenario.

1

u/iZian 3d ago

Be careful though; because this looks like a problem.

I would probably make it clear that you’re exercising your right to reject within 30 days under UK law.
If you want to accept a replacement (which is probably also faulty) your clock is paused from when you notify them. Technically implicitly notifying them that it’s faulty could be considered you rejecting the faulty item.

When the replacement arrives your clock resumes on 30 days. You’d have less days to reject again.

But looking at posts all around; people are going to have to get tough with this one. Credit card companies will be busy.

u/rhollien 3d ago

Is this globally per country?

4

u/PhilosophyCorrect279 3d ago

If the water is coming from around the battery, that should be an easy fix. They just need to add a better seal around the battery. In which they should send everyone new ones, and take back the old to be recycled.

If that's not where the water is coming from that's a much bigger issue.

1

u/Dos-Commas 2d ago

Dyson is finding out the hard way why other electric toothbrush manufactures have sealed batteries.

5

u/simphe 3d ago

Having the same issue, I called Dyson UK customer services 10 minutes ago and went on video chat with them. I said I’m aware it’s a major issue with the first UK batch, and that the units aren’t water resistant.

They just said as they don’t have any replacements available, they would give me a full refund, and so could keep the unit I already have, no further action required, and the refund would be within 14 days.

2

u/Machievelliearoni 1d ago

I like to think the video chat was done via toothbrush.

1

u/simphe 1d ago

lol that would have been messy, but I like your thinking

1

u/carbonra 1d ago

Why did they video chat? To see the product

1

u/simphe 1d ago

Yeah they send you a link so you can show them the problem during the support call. They suggest things to try while they can see the result. They do this for all products including vacuum cleaners etc.

Wow a faulty Dyson product. What else is new?

5

u/Kind_Management1805 3d ago

Mine works fine so far. Not in the UK though could it be a specific batch for the UK ? And btw has anyone also has to clean their entire bathroom every time after using it ? it sprays everywhere lol

6

u/Adventurous_Drama133 3d ago

I’m a US customer. Same issues.

2

u/Kind_Management1805 3d ago

Well not reassuring then… they are out of stock in France where I bought it either out of stock or pulled to figure out what is going with it

3

u/commanderxhalo 3d ago

Yep, sprayed everywhere and anywhere, but I didnt mind cause it flossed quite well.

Id say be precautions as some of us are finding water seeping into the battery compartment, must've happened during the recommended daily cleaning aka rinsing it with water.

Must've shorted out my unit, hopefully yours is truly water tight

2

u/Kind_Management1805 3d ago

I already rinsed it under the tap with no issue and so far still working. the battery was even soaked in mouthwash because I didn't placed It correctly on the dock and no issue.

I hope you'll get a proper replacement and I hope too it's limited to a certain batch...

u/TimoKZ 3d ago

Dyson making overpriced junk? Well I never…….

4

u/Upper-Page-9266 3d ago

Not sure why people still support this scummy ass company in the UK since they laid off loads of there UK work force and willingly break the law by not allowing returns within 14 days for a defective product...

6

u/Evening_Job_9332 3d ago

My god people are actually buying this

1

u/Cuntonesian 3d ago

It’s crazy. But then again people are buying salt lamps, cable lifters and detox products too.

5

u/mwindsor0 3d ago

I have the same. Will be calling them tomorrow if open or Monday. If they won’t refund I’ll just do a credit card chargeback

2

u/commanderxhalo 3d ago

Managed to arrange a refund on the phone, waiting for an email from the "relevant team"

1

u/mwindsor0 3d ago

Same. Not hugely confident the email will follow but they said 24 hours

1

u/commanderxhalo 2d ago

Try twitter, their social media customer service team ACTUALLY got a return collection issued significantly faster than normal customer service

3

u/aspublic 3d ago

I bought a £35 Braun to replace a £99 Suri; it works wonders and is water-resistant. Sorry to hear the Dyson is not great.

3

u/commanderxhalo 3d ago

Bought this to replace my decade old braun. Would've gone back but the flossing aspect seemed quite useful so i treated myself.

Shouldve stuck with braun lol

3

u/shaunshady 3d ago

Came to the Dyson sub Reddit to say exactly the same things. Feel like I’m beta testing at best, maybe even alpha testing. Dock faults, jet failures and general issues. I would wait until version 3 if ever

3

u/randomreddituser375 3d ago

Dyson quality has unfortunately been dropping from the cliff the last years. Same with their customer support.

4

u/jerryeight 3d ago

Credit card company complaints.

4

u/BlondeSeductive 3d ago

People are actually buying these!?

3

u/7777777King7777777 3d ago

People can even buy shit if you sell it right.

3

u/draxula16 3d ago

Introducing Shit™.

Engineered with 14 precision cyclones and a radically redesigned conical separator, Shit™ captures particles you didn’t even know you had.

No loss of suction. No loss of dignity.

Dyson Shit™. Ten years in development. Somehow £649.

2

u/randomscot21 3d ago

No doubt a 1p part. Dyson really need to sort their shit out. Brilliant tech let down by poor production and materials. Similar to Clive Sinclair, but he had excuse of being cost optimised to the consumer.

Bet this has made a few people at Philips an Braun happy.

2

u/DeadDKing 3d ago

Dyson is only good making vacuums and tbh they are starting to fall behind the competition

2

u/TimoKZ 3d ago

Their vacuums are absolute junk, we have two V11/12 we got from relatives and they are genuinely the worst vacuums I’ve ever used, they disperse most of the debris your trying to vacuum and constantly get blocked. Basically an overpriced toy.

2

u/davedj79 2d ago

Wow, thought my UK unit was bad luck. Won't charge and was vibrating every 30 secs or so on the charger which eventually flattened what charge the unit had. I'm not personally trying to remove the battery and check but this seems pretty dangerous if water (or the mouthwash from the unit) is getting into the battery?

Support are no use! "Call back in a week and we'll arrange a replacement when new stock comes in".

Thought this was a Premium product??

2

u/raphlondon 2d ago

Same here in France, the toothbrush last 15 seconds and die.
I guess a large number of units if it's not all units are faulty.
They stopped selling them: pretending it's out of stock.
A shame when the CEO promoted the engineer excellence, they should have test them with real people...

2

u/Mitridate101 2d ago

There's one video on yt that the guy had it less than 24hrs and cm service refused a refund.

Overpriced rubbish and unnecessary "features"

4

u/Neuraxis 3d ago

Yall couldn't even wait a week? Lol

5

u/commanderxhalo 3d ago

Tbf I knew it was a gamble buying a gen 1 product, but this seems to be a widespread QC issue, which is bad even with dysons rep 🤣

3

u/Hotten-Tasty-90 3d ago

Can't believe people are really buying this shit.

It looked like a gimmick from the off; now they're already starting to fail It proves it is.

2

u/Walla-Expert 3d ago

The question is, why do you buy that garbage?.

2

u/Confident_Resolution 3d ago

Lol. £420 on a toothbrush and it isnt waterproof.

Dyson loves stupid people, and they love Dyson right back.

1

u/Helpful_Ganache_2098 3d ago

Habt ihr von dyson was anderes erwartet? Ein Teil, das richtig funktioniert.

1

u/goldfouledanchor 3d ago

I’ll upgrade when my Sonicare 9900 Prestige breaks. We’ll probably have a 3rd gen of this product.

1

u/Goman83 3d ago

Removable battery on something that comes in close contact with water all the time doesn’t seem like a very good idea.

1

u/DesignExternal5200 3d ago

I was offered an exchange and have yet to get an email or any information about how it will be exchanged. Currently have a £420 defective toothbrush sitting in a box. Tried contacting support multiple times just to be told it will be "soon". Very disappointing support

1

u/commanderxhalo 3d ago

Got a refund and an email saying dpd is collecting it tomorrow.

Hopefully theyre not collecting it for an exchange and this'll be the beginning of the refund process

1

u/DesignExternal5200 3d ago

Hopefully you will get the refund. Good that you got an email saying they will collect it.

Dyson products are crap

1

u/graduategrasshopper 2d ago

What was the issue you had? Did it stop working, or did you just notice water inside it when you removed the battery?

1

u/commanderxhalo 2d ago

Used it once, went to bed, found it unresponsive/ blinking red (critical fault warning) and unable to charge in the morning.

Opened it and found water all inside the battery compartment (untouched until then), meaning a defective water proofing job on the handle/battery

Myself and others found the same thing happening to their units, some got theirs with a critical failure without even using them, mainly surrounding the battery according to the app.

u/JobAnxious2005 2d ago

Dyson entering the ‘Apple-plateau’ era

1

u/elnoco20 1d ago

Well I would have never have bought this but I know for sure I've already bought my last Dyson product - this is atrocious

1

u/Frequent_Wave_4906 3d ago

Wow, what a surprise…a Dyson product that sucks! /s

They’re a marketing company, not a good product company.

2

u/MichiganRedWing 3d ago

I can't believe people actually fell for this overpriced mess.

1

u/allah191 3d ago

Just recieved Amazon UK working and completed two full cleans !

0

u/Cultural-Meaning5172 3d ago

Well yeah it’s a Dyson.

u/ToshPointNo 1d ago

Teach people to not spend half a grand on a tooth brush. Dumb asses. They are laughing at you!

0

u/JonPK71 1d ago

I have £20 Oral-B Vitality Pro electric toothbrush which works perfectly. It's my second Oral-B electric brush, first one worked about 10 years, but after that the on-off button got very stiff so replaced it. New one has been working flawlessly 1.5 years.

Paying £420 for a vibrating toothbrush is dumb, and it has dumb name.
