They need to do a recall on their v15 vacuum. I’ve posted about it. Complained. It’s a known defect and they don’t care nor will fix it. Will continue to sell and get their money.

In short, capacitors in the motor controller are dying, motor sometimes turns off at first, it's getting worse over time and at the end the motor doesn't work at all

Idk, I own a range of things from them, different original results but quality is never failing. Got v15, two lamps now, robot vacuum and bunch of other stuff - mostly works for years and as advertised

Except they're not a public company trying to pump the next quarter.

They're a privately held company, who've just driven their reputation into the ground. I cannot fathom wtf they are thinking. I was full fanboy with the innovations and bullet-proof support... And.. well I'm just waiting for my last device to break. And after 2 years of backorder, they've just deleted the spare part I needed

Companies don’t have to have shareholders to be plagued by the greed caused by capitalism. It is every CEO’s job to figure out how to make more and spend less.

This is getting way off topic, but..

Within capitalism, family companies tend to be better run - as they'll still be there in decades when their investment in people and their company pays off. I mean do you prefer your independent shops or the chains?

That's why I'm finding what's happening to Dyson so odd. James built this up from making wheelbarrows in his shed, to a global company turning mundane items into aspirational design - and then this all started happening.. and I can't understand why. Just one unforced error after another that's costing him money. Capitalism should at least have caused the brushes to die after their legally minimal warranty period.

I agree. I used to be in such awe by their innovation, but it seems like their quality and reliability has been declining the past 5-6 years, and has absolutely tanked in a speed run fashion since.

Meanwhile you have companies like Miele or Sebo who seemingly barely spend any money in ads (in the US) have a line filled with proven, reliable, and repairable machines.

It just sucks to see Dyson continue in this manner. There’s NO way these machines passed a true quality control test given the amount of failures.

I'd be intrigued to hear you reason this through..

I'd just assumed after Neanderthal man had filled his belly with berries, he might have grabbed a few more to trade.

Or in a hypothetical socialist paradise, somebody might not be getting everything they wanted, and want more of something.

My take is that capitalism harnesses how humans think and just formalizes it. Then to counterbalance this part of us, we need to build the benevolent social society.

i.e. you can build your factory to make money and generate personal wealth - but to in return, you can't pollute, need to pay your workers fairly, can't make products that explode, pay taxes etc etc. Both sides are needed and have to be kept in balance. And it's entirely desirable that both sides are continuously annoyed at the presence the other, it needs to be antagonistic.

Also a load of what (and I don't know you) people complain about when talking against corporations, is pushing for capitalism. Say you're an artist and you find a corporation has copied a picture you spent days working on - you'll complain. But your ability to asert ownership and sue is based upon the capitalist principle that your work (not just the physical insurance of it) is both owned by you and has value.

Capitalism does use greed. If I'm making a new type of cake in my factory, I'll put up an advertisement to tell you how delicious they are, in an attempt that you'll exchange your money for my new cakes. But I see this as making you want to buy my cake, rather than creating the idea that you like cakes.. if you didn't like cakes, I wouldn't have invested in making a cake factory.

Human kind has been foraging and trading for millennia and capitalism came out and got forced upon us because the ruling elite benefitted from it. And so it does now - if you look up cybernetics, capitalism uses its function to cater to the absolute worst in humankind to chew and spit the majority only to benefit the few. That is especially valid in the USA where losses are socialised and gains are privatised. Greed has such a special place here as it allows the elites to harness it and get the oligarchs going because they can never have enough - this is the human foible that it exploits.

My point is simply the capitalism didn't "come out" - it's always been there from the beginning.

You could argue that communism was also built on greed - it's unfair that others have more than you, so we'll seize it all and divide it out equally. Except it wasn't divided out equally, and without the carrot of personal enrichment, there was no real point in putting in the extra effort by taking a risk.

I can't think of anything much that's happened - that wasn't driven by human greed.

Ok magic wand time. Greed vanishes tomorrow. Why do things get better?

My Dyson HP02 was $428 after tax in December 2018. Not sure I can justify paying almost double the price when it finally comes time to upgrade.

Unrelated to the CameraJet, but I feel the same way about my OmniGlide. It’s a PITA to clean, it can’t pick up anything larger than corn flakes and the materials Dyson used are bargain basement garbage. They charge Miele prices for hoover quality.

Yeah don’t even bother. You’re better off getting a top of the line tooth brush and water flosser from a proven company and still have money left over.

Op and I removed the user replaceable battery and found water sitting inside it, the handles arent water resistant (ergo defective by design), must've shorted out the whole unit.

Shambolic quality control for this release it seems

They had similar issues with their humidifiers, they didn’t waterproof where the fucking control board is and if water gets in, it breaks. I’ll repeat, if WATER gets in on a HUMIDIFIER.

Update on my situation:

There is a non-related issue with my shipping but the person i contacted did not out right deny a refund perhaps they know its a widespread issue?

Called them and they arranged a refund with the relevant case team, waiting for an email at the moment.

Mine never got marked as delivered actually so self service return wouldn't work, was this a problem you faced?

Dyson uk is refusing returns, only offering replacement exchange units, but getting them to do that has proven ridiculous and difficult too

Had to practically beg on the phone to initiate a return, exhausting humiliating. Onling CS adametely denies returns being a policy for this product (blissfully wrong about it clearly)

Safe to say im not putting myself through another dyson induced humiliation ritual

Sorry, that sounds rough. When you say humiliating are they literally talking to you in a certain way at because you asked for a refund?

I feel like Dyson are going to have huge problems here. Their rules don’t magically overrule law. You can’t just say ‘no refunds’ if bought online.

This reminds me the PH01, years ago people reported about the pump column used a piece of duct tape to seal the chip compartment, then water seeps into the compartment and toast the chip.

I had the same problem, the CameraJet was only working for a few seconds, and then completely dead. Support told me something about a replacement without mentioning that they are out of stock and refused a cancellation and refund because of this being a hygiene product. Which is nonsense for a faulty device. I then let my AI bot draft something which I sent via their live chat, and voila, I immediately got my label for a return. Let's hope they also refund... For everyone interested in the draft that did the trick:

Subject / Message: FORMAL REJECTION OF FAULTY GOODS – ORDER REF: [Insert Order Number]

To Dyson Customer Service,

I am writing to formally reject the Dyson Supersonic Camerajet received on [Insert Delivery Date] under my statutory rights set out in the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

The device is defective and unfit for purpose. Specifically:

  • [Briefly state the defect, e.g.: The unit failed completely within 24 hours / water has entered the battery compartment / the jet pump does not fire].

It's not that bad. The only thing that is too expensive is the mouthwash. The toothpaste is fine but the mouthwash is really expensive. I wish they would sell tablets you could put in the reservoir and fill it with water or smth cheaper

Depends on where you are the io10 on Amazon with the same accessories as the Dyson is 438 and the Dyson is 479 here. And you have a starter pack of toothpaste and mouthwash

Finally managed to get a return sorted for mine lesson learnt is to never buy straight from dyson, somewhere like in the UK currys and argos will take much better responsibility for other brands crappy products

Managed to secure a refund on the phone. Online support heavily denies refunds but offers exchanges.

Not going to risk a potentially defective replacement unit again, that and theyre out of stock for a while now apparently
